Husband (2)

The original body may have never thought about the reason behind this difference, but Anna suspected that it should be related to the living standard and the resulting difference in average life expectancy. The living conditions of lower-class civilians were poor. If they didn’t get married early, they might not be able to have children. The nobles lived comfortably, and their average life expectancy was much longer, so marriage would naturally be delayed.

Anna was now seventeen years old. This was just the right age for marriage for ordinary women.

Gaea went on to say: “Your father and I have been thinking about finding you a husband recently. Little Tim is a very good boy. He should like you to be always sending things to our house. If you don’t object to it, your father and I will go to Old Tim’s to discuss your marriage.”

Anna thought, for the original Anna, maybe little Tim was a very good husband candidate. Little Tim’s house was very good for civilian standards, and he was shy and considerate. There was no sign of domestic violence at the moment. In the future, after they are married, they could have a few children, maybe one or two of them would die early, but most of them would grow up, and such an ordinary, normal life would be over just like that.

But Anna didn’t want to live such a plain life.

In modern times, her work has just gotten on the right track, and she had transmigrated before being able to display her great talents. She didn’t necessarily like this world, but it wasn’t like she could leave.

She did not expect to be able to change the world, as her personal power was too small, but she also did not want to be changed by the world.

“Mama, I don’t want to get married yet.” Anna looked at Gaea, trying to show her seriousness.

Gaea sighed, hugged Anna and said, “Mama doesn’t want to marry you so early. But if you marry little Tim, you will live a better life. You can eat white bread like this every day.”

Anna shrank into Gaea’s arms and nodded: “I know…but I want to make my own money to buy white bread every day.”

Gaea touched Anna’s head, and whispered: “There are many people eying a good boy like Tim. If this opportunity passes, it’ll be hard to find a good husband like him.”

Anna said, “I won’t regret it.”

She got out of Gaea’s arms and looked at Gaea with a smile: “Mama, I just learned that the city Lord’s estate is recruiting maids, I want to try!”

Gaea was a little surprised when she heard this: “The city Lord is hiring maids? Really?”

“Really! I will go to the earl’s estate tomorrow.” Anna said, “We can talk about marriage later, Mama!”

Gaea and Evan respected their children’s opinions more than the other parents of this world, otherwise they would not involve Anna in the discussion about her marriage. Therefore, at Anna’s plea, Gaea finally nodded: “Then you go and try! Goddess, if you can become the maid of the city Lord’s estate, you can find a better husband in the future.”

Anna nodded happily, and did not refute Gaea’s words.

If she could become the maid of the earl’s mansion, she could undoubtedly save a lot of money. If she had money, she would have greater autonomy. As for choosing her husband, that could be saved for a later discussion.

The tavern was open until the early hours of the morning, and when Evan and Jim came back, Anna had fallen asleep. Jim moved very quietly, and when he laid down on the outskirts of the large bed, Anna did not wake up, but when Anna got up in the morning, Jim, who had always been a light sleeper, woke up.

Anna quickly whispered: “Sorry Jim, my voice is too loud. you can go to sleep. Oh, by the way, I left white bread for you and dad yesterday. It’s delicious, remember to eat it.”

Jim was only ten years old, but like Evan, he was more taciturn. He didn’t get up when he heard Anna’s words, and mumbled sleepily: “Okay, Anna.”

Then, he closed his eyes again and fell asleep.

Anna wore her best dress today. It was gray-blue. Compared with the smoky-gray dress yesterday, it made her look more beautiful. She also tied her long reddish brown hair into a braid, and she looked refreshing with a hint of girly vivacity.

Father Evan was still sleeping, Anna said goodbye to her mother Gaea, Gaea said “May the goddess bless you” and sent Anna out the door.

There were mages in this world, so naturally there were religions. Everyone believed in the Goddess of Light. Evan and Gaea were devout believers. At least one-third of the money saved every month was given to the Church of the Goddess of Light in Blue Rock City.

The specific rules of this world were not understood by the original body. She only vaguely knew that she was in the Principality of England, and that there were other principalities surrounding the independent nunciature, the goddess of light. The nunciature dispatched clergy in various principalities. A priest presided over the Blue Stone Church. Anna saw from her memory that he was an unremarkable middle-aged man, but the original body was full of awe for the priest.

Anna knew the location of the earl’s estate. Because the knee injury still affected her movement a little, she walked for half an hour before arriving, and was stuck at “customs.”

When she explained that she was applying for a position in the Earl’s estate, the guard told her that she could not enter because no one had recommended her.

Anna recalled what Lily had said. Lily did say that no one could enter without a recommendation.

But she didn’t want to just give up, so she had to plead with the guard: “Please, please let me in. My family is very innocent… That’s right, a maid named Anna also recognizes me.”

Anna did not hesitate to borrow Lily’s aunt’s name, but the entrance guard was unmoved, his face gradually becoming impatient.

At this moment, a person came over and smiled: “I recognize her.”

Anna and the guard both turned their heads, and the guard immediately smiled and said, “Older brother Shane, how come you’re here?”

Anna recognized the other person, he was the coachman who drove Parrish yesterday!

“Isn’t this a relative’s child looking for a job?” Shane smiled naturally.

Because Shane had been a long time coachman for Parrish, Shane had a reputable reputation despite being just a coachman. When he said that, the guard immediately said: “Since it is someone that older brother Shane knows, it must be no problem!”

“Hahahaha, I will invite you to drink later!” Shane laughed, “Then, I’m bringing her in?

“No problem! When the time comes, I’ll treat older brother Shane!” The guard also laughed.

The two of them bantered for a while and swiftly decided to let Anna in. Anna was a little confused when she followed Shane the coachman.

It was that easy to get in?

Wait a minute… Did this mean that the demon was still eyeing her?
