Chapter 16: Chapter 16 – Djarin Town (Intermission 1, III)

There was nothing more to it. The system had only given me a choice of either selecting yes or no for the update. I had no idea what it entailed nor the changes that would be made after its implementation. I hate it when it does this!

Azer and his men still stared at me with that confused look that had set in while I was on the call with Glen. They probably thought I was insane if they didn’t already think so. Not wanting to hold them up any longer, I clenched my jaw and hit the yes command to get it over and done with. I sure hoped it wouldn't break anything important.

[Initiating System Update…]

As soon as the loading bar filled, I felt the energy within me begin to drain away. My vision blurred before becoming completely saturated by a pitch-black blanket. That was when a feeling of complete numbness struck me. It was as if a switch had been flicked and my entire body turned off.

I opened my eyes and gasped a lungful of air. “W-what… happened?” I groaned, fading in and out of consciousness. I felt my arms being grabbed before pulling me into an upright position while I was sitting on the ground. The whirlwind of dizziness began to fade along with that weird numbness. My head rang as if a church bell had been struck mere centimetres from my ears. Not to mention my neck hurt like hell and cracked when I made sudden movements to see what was going on. My vision began to clear enough that I could see Azer and his men standing around me, staring at me in complete shock with their mouths open.

They held my arms and pulled me up, trying to be careful enough not to cause more damage than what had already been done. I felt my legs wobble as a torrent of sweat ran down beneath my armour.

System Successfully Updated.

The notification flashed on my screen before the rest of the HUD came to life and this ugly feeling began to wear off. What the heck just happened?
