Chapter 4: Chapter 4 – The Wandering Merchant

I sat leaning against a tree trunk near the oasis, relaxing under some much-needed shade as the midday sun raged in the sky. The first part of the morning consisted of me attempting to clean the bloodstains off my clothes. Most of them had come off, but it would be near impossible to get them all off without chemicals or soap. This meant I would have to walk around like some psycho killer. Great! Amazing first impressions if I actually met other people out here. Feeling very annoyed, I consolidated the materials I’d needed to craft the workbench. A task I had just completed before taking a seat.

I filled my belly with water and ate a few of the berries I had gathered the previous day as hunger set in, resulting in a grumpy belly. Regardless of having full stats I guess hunger was still a very real thing in this world.

I had almost forgotten about the leather flask I gained from the survival kit, so I removed it from my inventory and observed it. It looked like a flask… made from, yup, leather… as the description suggested. I could easily get enough water to fill my stamina bar once over. I sunk it deep in the water, watching the air bubbles escape before they ceased, and plugged it with the small cork sewn into the neck. It also adorned a little string I could attach to my trousers where a belt would have generally wrapped around my waist. It looked kinda neat and made me feel like one of those adventurers.

With my stamina back to full, I made my way back to the camp, trying my best to avoid the direct sunlight, which was getting pretty hot. Lucky for me, I was surrounded by trees and hopped easily from shade to shade. It felt rather peaceful now, especially after last night’s excitement. Without hesitation, I activated the build menu and selected the Workbench. It appeared the same as the other craftable structures before I placed it near the shelter.

It looked exactly like I thought it would, a table with four legs and a few stone tools resting atop it. I didn’t waste any more time hitting the craft command.
