A gelatinous creature oozes through the forest after consuming an elf. This was the seed of gluttony. It has been newly awakened as gluttony, and after consuming the elf it gains the new ability of transformation. Instantly, it morphs its disgusting wriggling mass until it looks exactly like the harmless elf it had just devoured. Using its other ability of sensing magic sources. It headed in the direction of the Elven Kingdom of Eden.
The Elven Kingdom of Eden is one of the oldest and most advanced places in the world. They are the most advanced in the study of magic, and have even learned how to process metal. They have swords mostly made of bronze, but the Royal Elven family have iron swords. Even the structures of this kingdom are ahead of the times. The stone walls tower over the surrounding forest, and most of the wealthy district of the capital city has buildings made from polished obsidian.
In the capital city, simply known as Edenala, an unassuming middle aged elf with graying hair walks with his cane through the twisting alleyways of the commercial district before arriving at an equally unassuming store. He walks into the store supported by his cane as the man behind the counter greets the familiar figure. “Hiyo, Faif, what brings you here today? Or do you want the usual?”
“I’ll take the usual please.” The man behind the counter bows before walking to the front of the store. Enda flips the open sign to closed before gesturing for Faif to follow him to the back of the store. As they head to the back of the store, the thick scent of herbs greets their noses, but Enda pays it no mind as he is used to it already. In this area of the store there are glass tubes and bottles filled with tinctures. There is also a giant stone cauldron with a strange green mist flowing out of it. The mist comes from the leaves of the Eden tree as they are boiled, and their medicinal properties are remarkable. Faif looks over the place with a strange expression. “The atmosphere feels different from usual. Did you do something?”
“Ah, nothing you need to worry about. It is just that we got this strange new elixir from a visiting merchant, and it has weird magical properties.” Faif raised an eyebrow seemingly intrigued. This is definitely something I would want to know about you lousy shopkeeper. Who do you think I am!? But he didn’t ask because he was sure he would figure it out sooner or later. The shopkeep gives him a knowing smile. “I imagine nothing could hide from you old sa-” Before he finished Faif cut him off. “I told you not to call me that ever again.” The rage was evident on his face, and had he finished his word it might have been his last. Faif was already raising the cane despite his injury. Visible sweat dripped from the shopkeeper's head before he changed the subject. “Okay, Okay, I don’t want to end up dead, so can we just get to the main task?”
Faif nodded and Enda was happy they could go back to what Faif had originally come here for. “I have the usual elixir, and I will give it to you as we agreed on.” Enda took an elixir from one of the medicine cabinets and handed it to Faif. “What do you even use these for? As far as I am concerned they are as useful as drinking water. I still can’t believe you gave me a whole life's fortunes worth of money to produce you these elixirs.”
“They are nothing for you to be concerned about, and if you want to know…” He lifted his cane in an exaggerated manner. “No, no forget I said anything!” Edna was waving his hands wildly. “Sheesh, you really do make some dark jokes mister… something something.”
“We will leave it at that, you foolish shop keeper. I suggest that from now on if you want to survive in this world, there are just certain people you shouldn’t antagonize. You are lucky I am the nicest of the seven, or by Agora's name you would be a corpse already.”
Enda shivered at the thought before their conversation ended and the catastrophe that was Faif left the shop. Then Enda sighed in relief. It was at that moment that he was really questioning his decision to produce elixirs for that man, but there was no way he could go against his own word when he made the deal. He was by Agora an honest merchant. He had never backed out of a deal once it had been made. He did have his pride.
After some time on the outskirts of the capital Faif entered his humble wooden home. The king of this era had no idea who Faif was, but that was due to his own reluctance to be a public figure again. There were of course shoddy paintings of Faif from his youth still on display in the castle, but most people don’t recognize his current self. When they do he inevitably quiets them by giving them gold. He would never actually harm the citizens of his beloved city, but that merchant did tend to get on his nerves.
“Now then…” He put the elixir up to the purple light emanating from his strange table carved with runes. The elixir lit up with a dark green hue before changing its color to purple in an instant. It was the reaction of the elixir to the magic circle carved into his table that made the elixir show its true worth. As soon, as the elixir turned purple he chugged it. The reaction was unstable, and one had to consume it immediately if they wanted the effects of the elixir to work.
Immediately his vision turned blurry as the elixir took hold of the mana within his body. The elixir would be harmful to anyone except for Faif due to his unique magic. His unique magic was future sight; however, when he consumed the elixir that would ravish most mortals mana turning them into a corpse, he would gain even further insight into the future. These insights were always strange prophecies, but he would protect his kingdom from the shadows! I did promise my the only king I would ever serve to protect this kingdom as long as I still breathe.
His mind went blank for a second as his muscles started to spasm. Then he blacked out.
I wan’t. I wan’t. I wan’t. He saw a strange being with fangs that he couldn’t recognize from any of the creatures he had come across. She gave of a strange feeling of wanting, and the more he watched the more he started to feel it. It was a side effect of the power. The emotions from future vision were transmitted to his core. What do I wan’t? What do I need? No, no, no. I will not let this strange being fill me with envy. What is its purpose? How could it want so strongly?
The scene changed and he was relieved for a second before something even more mortifying filled his vision. A giant gelatinous creature was consuming everybody in the capital with disgusting tentacles that would lash out at everything. He wanted to see more of this future in the hopes of stopping it, but then the scene changed again to a calm ocean.
Inside of the vast ocean there was a giant shadow, and from that shadow sparked an ominous feeling in Faif. His eyes shot open as words filled his head. “You are quite greedy… Well, I guess in that sense we are one in the same.” He couldn’t believe it as his nose started to bleed. Nobody has ever invaded my domain. Nobody has ever grasped the power of a sage. What are these loathsome creatures? I hate them! I hate them! Rage boiled in his mind at the creatures that the world should never have spawned. Before he was consumed by rage he quickly calmed his mind. Maybe it is time for this old sage to resurface?
