"You knew it... How??? How did you survive the bone-melting poison? You are not a human... You monster!!!" Matthew screamed, grabbing his bleeding shoulder, "Aaahahah!!! A freaking monster..."
'Bone melting poison?! So he killed this body's owner. I have to be careful, or else someone will f*ck me over like the previous owner. I almost forgot this is a war-ridden world where even a twig like him can kill...' Ethan thought. He was worried about his safety.
Ethan decided to find and cut the root of the poison before it spread further into the heart of his fortress. And more importantly, he wanted to find out what other things Matthew had poisoned and how far he or whoever was supporting him had planned.
"Allison, you better stop his bleeding before he kicks the bucket. We need him to cough up everything he knows. Oh!!! Stuff something into his mouth and tie it up. We can't let him commit suicide by biting his tongue off," Ethan ordered Allison.
Ethan grabbed Matthew's jaws and looked into his eyes sternly. Matthew was barely standing due to excess blood loss. The scent of blood was nauseating. Ethan's eyes went toward the severed hand lying near Matthew's feet, twitching every few seconds.
'That's gross. Freshly chopped hand... Eeww!!!' Ethan thought, noticing the occasional twitch. The nerves and muscles are still active on that severed hand, and it was twitching due to lack of blood. It looked like cramping.
Ethan had fought in the arena and experienced things like broken teeth and fractures, but he had never witnessed anything like this. He wanted to vomit, but he was trying his best to keep his angry demeanor.
"If you give me a name, I will spare you. I promise it on my honor as the fortress master that I won't kill you. But if I have to meet you in the torture chamber... You get what I mean?" Ethan said in a low voice in Matthew's ears.
"F*ck off!!!" Matthew tried to spit on Ethan's face, "Akkkgg!!!"
Ethan punched his stomach, making him unconscious. Allison and her men took Matthew to the torture chamber after patching him up to stop the bleeding.
"Guards, cover the area. Don't let a single bug escape," Ethan yelled without looking back. He ordered the guards to surround the crowd, preventing anyone from leaving.
"Roger!!!"
In a blink of an eye, all the guards in the area raised their weapons and surrounded the crowds. There were too many guards, which surprised Ethan because he had no idea how big the fortress was.
'Good. Now the next part. How long will you hide?' Ethan thought. He got a perfect opportunity to catch the poison supplier or maybe the mastermind if he gets lucky, and it's all thanks to Matthew, who babbled about poisoning in front of all.
Ethan thought that if he took an example from a movie or game, then the one who tried to kill him was already here from the beginning, hiding among the crowds. That mastermind, or the poison supplier, must have come to verify the reality with their own eyes after learning that the target is still alive.
"Now that you know what's going to happen next... I will give you five minutes... Come out and surrender. I know you are still here." Ethan looked toward the trembling crowd around the open ground.
However, five minutes passed, and no one came out. The people were shaking in fear while looking at each other's faces with suspicion.
'Oh. Strong mentality. I will have so much fun breaking you down slowly. I wonder who will win this game of wits because I have too many ways to break your mind. Wahahaha!!! To think that those detective books would come in handy,' Ethan smirked, thinking about the times he spent in the college's library.
"I already know who you are. Think for a second, why am I still alive, you stupid f*ck? Hahaha!!!" Ethan threw in a little buff to make the mastermind restless.
"Hahahah!!!"
The guards also burst out in laughter. They seem to enjoy the situation because it's been too long since they had this much excitement in one and a half years.
"Will you three tell me?"

Ethan looked toward Matthew's bootlickers with a wicked smile and released a wisp of killing intent. He was trying to intimidate them. But none of them answered, and one peed in his pant, "Ok, alright. Hey, Muller. Bring me their families...' He looked toward Muller with cold eyes.
"As far as I know, they don't have any families. They came three months ago," Muller replied.
"Even, Matthew?" Ethan inquired.
"Matthew has a brother and an uncle. They came to the fortress a week before you took over," Muller replied.
"Well, no point searching for them. If I was in their place, I would have run away long ago. Anyway, no point in chasing them since we got more than three spies. I will make these bastards cough out everything," Ethan ordered with a cold expression.
Ethan took Muller's information into consideration. He concluded that Matthew and his family must have planned to the fortress to kill the previous fortress master and take over the fortress. But their plan failed when Boss defeated him and took over.
However, after their failure, they had to start their plan again from the beginning since Boss was a careful person and an ability holder. Then they called three men from their hideout to carry out an elaborate plan of assassinating Boss.
They knew how hot-headed Boss was, so their first plan went easy. They created a situation of theft and successfully got him angry. Taking advantage of the commotion, someone slipped into his room and poisoned the water.
They thought that Boss would kill the thieves in anger and he would go to his room to rest. And they knew that Boss would be tired after hunting, so he would definitely drink water before sleep.
The second part of their plan worked, but not exactly what they hoped for. Boss decided to punish the thieves before the public in the morning, but before going to sleep, he drank the poisoned water and died. However, due to some miracle, Ethan woke up in his body.
'That's some big elaborate plan they had cooked up,' Ethan thought.
"Well. Muller, my man... You see. You must pull the ear, for the head come with it," Ethan said as he walked toward Gina, "Who gave Matthew and these three spies their jobs?" He asked her.
Gina looked back at a burly guard with full-body metal armor, "Obviously, it's him, Keith, The guard captain..." She pointed her finger toward her captain.
[Stomp] Keith came forward and took out his giant mace, "How about we settle this like a man?" He pointed his weapon toward Ethan.
"Break his bones and bring him to his knees," Ethan said to Gina with an arrogant smile, "And his job is yours..."
"Roger!!!"
Gina disappeared from Ethan's vision and appeared behind Keith with her two short swords, aiming for his neck through the gap in the armor.
'Damn!!! She is fast,' Ethan mumbled. He failed to follow her super-fast movements.
[Clank] Gina's sword struck Keith's neck but met with resistance. She vaulted over his head and jumped forward, "Che."
"Hahahaha!!! Reinforced chainmail, baby... It's my turn," Keith took up his mace over his head and slammed it down on Gina's position. Dust covered the area, and rocks flew everywhere like bullets, "Hahahaha!!! What's wrong?" He continued to smash his giant mace on the ground.
