002. Role-playing games (1)

“Ugh!”

I took a deep breath and opened my eyes wide. Cold sweat broke out all over my body, perhaps because of what had just happened.

After some time passed and I looked around carefully, I started to breathe again.

“I’m….really back.”

The first thing that caught my eye was the university campus I attended a long time ago.

It was a decent university and a beautiful campus with natural scenery.

It was refreshing to see so many people walking around.

The world before the ‘game’ started was very peaceful.

“The status window is not open yet.”

I tapped my finger in the air and there was no response.

In other words, it means that they are still on the verge of their advent.

I sat on a bench, leisurely looking at the blue sky.

I couldn’t even remember how long this peace was.

“What are you doing there?”

A familiar voice sounded in my ears.

When I turned my gaze, a pretty woman with long black hair was staring at me blankly.

She was also familiar to me.

“Han Ji-soo.”

“Yes?”

I was caught in an emotion that was hard to explain.

She was a female student that I became friends with after coming to this university.

She skipped high school and was a year younger than me, and she always talked to me when I was alone.

She was a good friend, and she was very polite, so she didn’t stop talking to me until the end.

She didn’t think that was all I had to say after saying her name.

“What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?”

“Nothing.”

When I answered tiredly, Ji-soo, who was looking at my face, said, ” Oh, my god.”

“You’re tired from playing games at night again, aren’t you? Then this semester’s grades are going to be dangerous for you.”

“It’s okay.”

“It’s okay? What’s okay?”

Because the next semester isn’t going to start anyway.

I asked Jisoo who was chirping next to me.

“Today, what day is it?”

“Yes? It’s August 17th.”

I lowered my head at Jisoo’s words.

August 17th.

Indeed, it was the date the message window said it will send me to.

It told me to start the game from scratch, and it said it would take me back to the beginning.

“What’s wrong? You didn’t forget the date because you played games all this time, did you?”

“Uh…..right.”

I literally played a game that risked my life.

I’ve just finished watching it’s ending.

Though the ending was a bad ending in which everyone except me died.

“It’s not good for your health, so take care of yourself to some extent.”

“Okay.”

Jisoo was a person who liked to take care of others. Jisoo was the only one who approached me on the Asa route from college and spoke to me.

I was very grateful to her.

“Anyway…”

Jisoo looked like she was going to nag me something more, but she frowned as she noticed someone.

“I think we need to move.”

At the end of her gaze was a fairly handsome-faced boy.

He’s a guy whose name is familiar to me.

I think it was Lee Jong-hyun.

The guy who flirted with Jisoo and ignored me because I was a game junkie.

‘What happened to that guy?’

As far as I can remember, I haven’t seen him once after I got out of here.

So there was a high probability that he didn’t survive the first stage.

“No, you don’t have to move.”

“Huh, why? Didn’t you hate to see him?”

Did I? Actually, I couldn’t care less right now.

At this point, I was literally incapacitated. Even if someone ignored me, it was understandable.

Well, most of them died, so I can’t remember them well.

Jisoo frowned and folded her arms.

“Ugh, I still don’t like it. If he starts talking to me, I’d be annoyed, so we’d better move.”

Having said that, Jisoo looked around to see where we should go.

Then at some point she stopped.

“…..What is that?”

She mumbled blankly.

I felt a sense of deja vu by those words.

No, it may be a little different from the sense of deja vu in that I actually experienced it.

‘Yeah, this was how it began.’

It was today.

After staying up all night playing games, Jisoo approached me while I was resting on a bench.

And after exchanging a few words, Jisoo said this.

“What is that? Are they shooting a movie?”

Yeah, like this.

From one corner of the campus, green-shaped monsters crawled out.

Then it giggled and laughed at the people walking by.

People started to gather one by one to see these guys and what they were doing.

“Whoa, what’s this?”

“Isn’t that a person in disguise?”

“But why is he so small?”

They said a word to the green monsters.

Some of them approached with their hands outstretched.

“Let’s go watch it too.”

Jisoo held out her hand.

In the past, I too was led by this hand to see those monsters.

I shook my head.

“Wait.”

“Why?”

“Wait a minute and you’ll find out.”

There was a buzz and people gathered.

The appearance of the little green monster was soon overshadowed by people.

“I wonder……”

Jisoo was curious, pulled her neck out and tried to see the green monster among those people.

However, such curiosity did not last long. Because red liquid suddenly moistened the floor.

“Eh?”

Along with Jisoo’s shocked voice, people started screaming and running away.

“Ahhhhh!”

“Someone got stabbed! What the hell?!”

The green monster, commonly called a goblin, held a rusty sword stained with blood in its hand.

In front of the goblin was a man who had been stabbed, wriggling in pain.

“Hey, what is that? Is that really a monster?”

After Jisoo said that, she grabbed my arm and pulled me.

“Something’s wrong, come on, let’s run away!”

About ten or more goblins slowly crawled around the goblins who giggled as she finished speaking.

The crawling goblins indiscriminately ambushed the people around them.

At a sudden event, people screamed and fled.

But that was a big mistake.

For goblins who mainly targeted the weak, turning their backs to them is the same as begging to be killed.

“Kiik, Kekek.”

A goblin was approaching us too.

Showing off it’s rusty knife.

For goblins, killing is more than just hunting.

That’s why goblins laugh when they kill people.

“Sehan-oppa!”

Sehan, that was my name. A name I haven’t heard in a long time.

Jisoo blocked the way in front of the goblin as if to protect me.

This was also familiar.

Jisoo hugged me and rescued me, who was blankly frozen.

Jisoo’s bright red blood soaked my body.

‘Yeah, that’s right.’

The death of the first acquaintance I saw was Jisoo.

She was being stabbed to death and kept telling me to run away.

‘And I did left Jisoo and ran away.’

Shitty bastard.

Profanity came out my mouth.

I raised my body that was still sitting.

Now, it’s time to hear the message.

[The game will start soon.]

[Start synchronization prior to startup.]

I clenched my fists at the sound of the second round starting.

Kim Se-han, who was trembling and terrified, was no longer there.

I’m a single player who once saw the end of the world.

‘It’ll be different this time.’

[You can purchase DLCs as a 1st round clear privilege.]

[The points remaining in the 1st round will be inherited as a 1st round clear privilege.]

[As a privilege from the 1st round, you have gained access to ‘Community’. Please use it when synchronization is complete.]

Several messages flashed by.

I ignored it all.

It was more important to deal with the goblins running in front of me now than that.

‘This time it will never be the same as before.’

It was a second chance that I barely got.

I will never repeat the same tragedy.

That was my promise to start the second round.

“Kyaak?!”

When I suddenly rushed in, the goblin let out a piercing cry with a look of embarrassment.

After dodging the sword that was swinging towards my neck, I ran straight ahead and twisted its arm.

Wook!

“Keeek!”

As its arm twisted, the hand that held the sword lost its strength.

Snatching the sword from the ground, I shoved it into the goblin’s neck.

Poosh!

“Hoo.”

The sensation of ripping through flesh.

Originally, in this time period, I vomited the first time I stabbed a goblin.

But now I’m numb to it.

[You are the first to kill a goblin in this stage.]

[300 points will be paid as a bonus.]

‘Great.’

Points are resources needed to raise stats or purchase various items.

In some cases, this can be obtained by clearing quests or completing certain achievements.

Or become an avatar of God and receive patronage.

‘Wait a minute.’

I remembered the messages I heard when I ran towards the goblin.

‘Didn’t it say that the remaining points from the first round will be inherited?’

After buying the 2nd round package, 700,000 points remained.

I swallowed dry saliva and opened the status window.

[Name: Kim Se-han]

[Retained Points: 700,300]

“Crazy shit.”

Profanity flowed out of my mouth again.

The points displayed on the status window were the same as the remaining 700,000 points from the previous life.

My God, 700,000 points is enough to raise all my stats to the maximum right now.

Of course, there is a limit that can be raised in each main quest, but with 700,000 points, I can use it for a long time even if I raise it to the maximum every main quest.

‘Or buy the necessary items from the Points store.’

Either way this is a huge benefit.

But…….

‘I shouldn’t raise my stats prematurely.’

If I increase my stats to the maximum now, the difference between me and the other players will be significant.

Especially now, when the game just started.

Then Gods and GM will think of me as strange and be wary of me.

If that happens, the main quest can also be affected, and it was clear that there would be great restrictions when doing something in the future.

“Sehan-oppa?”

As I was contemplating whether to use the points or not, Jisoo asked with a trembling voice.

“What is that over there? What the hell is going on?”

Jisoo’s gaze wasn’t looking at me and the goblin I had killed.

Because the goblin wasn’t the only one.

“Move! Vicky!!”

“What are these monsters?!”

It took less than 10 minutes for the peaceful campus to become chaos.

Screams erupted everywhere and people running away.

And the appearance of the little monsters chasing them were terribly unrealistic.

I didn’t have to answer Jisoo’s words.

Even if I don’t explain it anyway, she’ll soon find out.

[Synchronization completed.](To Sehan)

[You are invited to the game of the gods.](To everyone)

“Huh?”

Jisoo’s eyes widened.

It’s not just Jisoo. People who were running away from the goblins also reacted similarly to the sudden notification.

[From now on, you must be a player of the game and clear all the main quests.]

[If you fail to clear the quests, the world will be destroyed.]

[Refer to ‘Help’ for details.]

The message ended there.

Of course, it was impossible for people to understand such a one-sided message.

“Hey, what does that mean?! A game!?”

“Ahh, save me!”

“Oh my god!”

The surroundings were a mess.

Someone screaming at a sudden message, someone fighting against goblins.

“Sehan Oppa….what does this mean?”

Jisoo muttered to me with a blank face.

Someone as smart as her should understand what is happening by now.

If she had to ask me a question, she probably just needed to be sure.

“You just heard it, right? It literally means what it said.”

I pointed to the sky with my fingers.

“It’s a story about higher beings somewhere who made our world into a game.”

“A game…….”

Jisoo was an incomprehensible face.

Yes, usually.

You will never be able to understand this situation.

But if you don’t understand, you die.

It’s become such a world.

“A strange voice is suddenly heard. The notification window that appears in the air, can’t you see it?”

“Yep.”

Slowly nodding her head, Jisoo looked around.

This was the same first day I saw.

But this time, Jisoo was also watching it.
