Chapter 5: Interregnum

The cave was dark and dry. The walls, roof and floor glistened as though polished by the passing of thousands of hands and feet however the dust of millenniums past coated the floor and swirled when a rare foot disturbed it. The cavern was old, very old.

Two figures could be discerned in the gloom, one a woman of uncommon beauty wearing a light sleeveless gown; the other, a darkly cowled man, seated on a throne carved from stone.

“It is time.” The man stated with a calm, reassuring manner. “You have done your part with full commitment till now. It is time to finish.”

The woman looked down at the object laying at her feet. She raised questioning eyes to the man. “You promised.” Was almost a whisper.

“I did and I will.”

“Then do it, so I may be released.”

The man nodded, with a wave of his hand a gold mist surrounded the woman and the object. The mist vanished along with the woman and the object.

The Dark Lord smiled, a cold satisfied smile.
