Seeing the gigantic tiger, Xue Lan remembered that Tian Chen brought a tiger back from his hunt in the past as his main prey.

Qing Meilin who accompanied him got badly injured by it and was generously compensated by Tian Chen, becoming his favourite for a long while.

But he didn’t remember the tiger being this big.

The guards swiftly drew their swords and readied their arrows.

The tiger was as tall as an adult human. It had snow-white fur with black stripes and one of its ears had a cut on it. The claws brandished from its paws were long, sharp, and dark. Its light blue eyes, almost seemingly silver, were staring straight into Xue Lan.

Yang Huo very carefully shifted to shield Xue Lan, “Walk back slowly.”

Xue Lan slowly moved his legs, lightly treading his steps so as to not make a sound. But the tiger sensed that he was running away and tensed its body.

Yang Huo knew it was about to attack and decided to directly grab Xue Lan. When the tiger pounced on them, he timely dodged the attack, bringing Xue Lan to safety.

The tiger’s roar shook the forest and the guards shot their arrows following Tian Chen’s first shot. None of the arrows hit as the tiger nimbly jumped aside and started circling the group.

It was too fast for any of their attacks to land and the guards were powerlessly thrashed around.

“Protect His Majesty!!” Li Feng ordered.

The guards swiftly moved to their trained formation. Yang Huo also joined in after hiding Xue Lan behind a tree and instructed him to stay down.

Xue Lan considered whether to call Mo Shen or not. He couldn’t let Tian Chen die so easily when his grudge wasn’t settled yet.

But Tian Chen survived this tiger in the past so it should be fine. If he really was going to die, only then he would call Mo Shen.

He peeked at the situation and saw that it was indeed a fierce battle. The guards could only use their swords to defend Tian Chen and the eunuchs from the tiger.

The tiger raised its front claws up and slashed down at the guards. It was then Xue Lan saw it.

On the underside of the tiger’s neck was a black crest. It was different from Mo Shen’s symbol, but the complex pattern and the somewhat inverted triangular shape were undoubtedly similar.

Could it be…?

Xue Lan got up and stepped out from his hiding place. The tiger instantly spotted him but this time he didn’t try to run away.

It broke through the guards and dashed towards Xue Lan. Yang Huo hurriedly moved to protect Xue Lan but the tiger was infinitely faster despite his kung-fu.

Noticing the tiger was coming to him at full speed, Xue Lan stretched out his hand with his palm up.

If he was wrong, Mo Shen would sense the danger and come.

But his guess was correct and the tiger avoided Xue Lan’s body. It circled him until its speed slowed down and stopped in front of Xue Lan with its tail swinging.

It sniffed him around to confirm something. Once it was sure, it sat down and lowered its head pitifully.

Xue Lan, “…”

Why did he feel like he was encountering a lost child?

“My Lord!” Yang Huo pulled Xue Lan away from the tiger, his sword pointing at it. “Are you hurt?”

The tiger growled at Yang Huo threateningly.

Xue Lan lowered Yang Huo’s sword with his fan, “It is merely afraid. You are scaring it further.”

With the injuries it caused on him and his comrades, Yang Huo was doubtful.

But Mo Shen told him to be obedient to Xue Lan and listen to his orders, so he lowered his sword down.

“Now!”

The three of them turned to the sound and saw the guards releasing their arrows at the tiger simultaneously. The tiger jumped forward and easily swept away the arrows with a turn of its body.

Before they could attack again, Xue Lan stepped in front of it.

“Your Majesty, this tiger is willing to draw back its claws and retract its fangs. Please reconsider,” he deeply bowed. “Fighting it will only cause unnecessary harm to your precious dragon body. Your subjects will truly be distressed by such an outcome.”

“Your Majesty, this country has never yet seen a gigantic tiger with beautiful white fur. If you conquer this beast, the people will reverent you more and will never doubt your prowess as the Son of Heaven. We should offer this beast to heaven for one thousand years of blessings,” one of the two eunuchs persuaded.

“This subject begs to differ,” the other one objected. “Is the beast not a gift from heaven for their beloved son instead? This beast is so powerful that it is nothing short of divine. I believe that it is the hidden ancestor of our land that has been protecting us from turbulence and chaos. We should bring it back to be worshipped.”

Hearing the two different opinions, Xue Lan spread open his fan to hide his mouth and whispered something to the tiger.

The tiger thought for a moment. Remembering something, he swept Xue Lan off of his feet to sit on its back and brought him away.

“Ah!? Hey!” Yang Huo was caught off guard and hurriedly chased after them.

“Follow it,” Tian Chen climbed up his horse and rushed to tail the trio.

They travelled across the forest for almost ten minutes when they heard the sound of water coming from afar.

Once they reached the place the tiger was leading them to, they were all stunned.

A large lake was presented to them flowing with clear, cool water. A tall waterfall poured down the water from the mountain top vigorously.

“Y-Your Majesty, the divine beast is blessing our summer with a new water source!” the eunuch said with his face flushed from excitement. “There has never been a lake this big in the area. No! There has never been a water source here at all! This must be a miracle from heaven!”

Xue Lan gazed down at the water. The tiger’s reflection was entirely different from the one next to him although it still had its tiger ears.

It nuzzled its head onto his face.

With that, Tian Chen was convinced that it was a divine beast. They were all still very afraid of it though and could only feel slightly assured that it seemed to be attached to the Honorable Consort.

It was so sticky that it even wanted to sleep inside the consort’s tent.

Xue Lan was helpless and could only tell it to sleep outside because its size was too big. It reluctantly laid in front of the entrance after getting a special instruction.

That was to shoo away a certain hateful man.

When Tian Chen came to visit, it didn’t make anyway for him to enter and even growled at him when he tried to call Xue Lan out.

He unwillingly gave up.

Xue Lan was satisfied with the result. He took the match to light up the candles when they lit up by themselves.

“I’ve returned, My Lord.”

He turned around and was about to tell Mo Shen about the tiger but then he fell silent.

Mo Shen was soaking wet from top to bottom.

He smiled mischievously and moved closer to hug Xue Lan, “My Lord, where’s my welcome hug?”

Xue Lan avoided Mo Shen since he didn’t want to get wet as well, but the demon persistently chased him.

In the end, he was inevitably caught and the two of them fell to the bed.

Mo Shen was wet, cold, and smelled fishy. Xue Lan pushed him away to no avail, “You’re disgusting. Get off.”

“I’m hurt. Here I am doing my best for you while you’re cheating on me with a new pet,” Mo Shen pressed Xue Lan to him tightly, letting the water seep into the other’s robe.

“I can see him becoming a professional blocker for me. Maybe I’ll tell him to block you from me as well,” Xue Lan felt the cold water on his skin and shuddered slightly.

“Then I should find a master for him to stick to instead,” Mo Shen finally got up. “Yang Huo would be good. His soul is qualified enough to enter a contract. Unfortunately, he isn’t desperate for anything.”

He dried the two of them as well as the bed before proceeding to undress Xue Lan.

“We might be returning earlier than planned. Is your prey ready?” Xue Lan asked.

“Certainly,” Mo Shen hung the garments. “I’ll be the first one to serve and we can feast with my other catches.”

“No, time it right,” Xue Lan laid on his bed. “It’s better to have a dramatic effect after all.”

“As you wish,” Mo Shen chuckled. He blew out the candles, “Sweet dreams, My Lord.”
