Matthew was in a rather peculiar situation at the moment. 'Dammit! This girl already knows what I was doing before I did it! And now, she is even coming toward me, it will only take her about another 6 or so steps before she is in my face!'.
'How should I deal with her? I don't know! I mean, I won't burn her, that's just too much, and I would get in a lot of trouble if I did so! Dammit! How should I proceed here?'.
The girl with a big scar on her left cheek, had blonde hair, that was cut short, and she looked average. She had a bit of freckles on both sides of her face, and was not that much taller than Matthew, even though she looked to be twice his age.
She held a little piece of wood in her hands, this piece was tall, and could be used as a beating stick, it seemed like she used it to fight. She was walking toward Matthew, while a smile was plastered on her face.
The boy that appeared to be twelve, and was probably the second in command in this little group of kids, could be seen shivering with sweat. It seemed like he had a bad experience with magic, and so, the sight of a fireball floating around Matthew, made him quite scared.
Matthew smiled and said, "Stop there, else, I will have to attack! I am not joking!". Even though he said so in the most threatening voice he could do, the girl only smiled back at him, as she took another step forward.
She then opened her mouth and said, "Will you, now? Then what are you waiting for? I just took another step, shouldn't you fire that spell at me already? Or are you just talk? C'mon, I am waiting, Aye, look, I just took another step forward, but, I still don't get the sense that I've been, or will be, attacked!".
Matthew looked at the girl coming forward, as he opened his mouth again, this time, he said, "Hey, wait! Okay, you're right, unless you really tried to kill me, I won't burn you to death, and I am sure you're not stupid to try and go after my life!".
"And so, why should we even fight? Why...", but the girl smiled, and cut him off, as she said, "What do you mean fight, what can you do without that fireball in your hand? Nothing! So don't make it sound as if we'll be fighting, it's more like, you will be beating by me to a pulp!".
Matthew was starting to get scared, especially when he noticed that, that piece of wood, that closely resembled a stick, which was held in the girl's hand, had some blood on it. The blood looked old, since it was glued to the piece of wood.
"Okay! But, may I ask why? I haven't done anything to you! In fact, I plan to share everything with you, if I get some delicious food, or anything else, I plan to share with everyone, so, why do you need to beat me up? Shouldn't you be angry at the ones running the orphanage? What have I done to you?".
'Dammit! If only I knew some other kind of spell! Since Fire Bolt can only kill, I won't be able to use to scare someone who knows I don't plan on killing them! Dammit!', thought Matthew, as he looked at the girl in front of him.
The girl was now only three steps away from Matthew, she finally stopped, and looked at him for a second, before she extended her hand and said, "My name is Max! What's yours? Also, why are you here?".
Matthew, as well as the three other boys, looked at the girl, as they were all dumbstruck by this. Still, Matthew said, after two seconds went by, "Ah! My name is Matthew! Nice to meet you, my, well... my parents were killed yesterday, by those bastards from the Black Tower!".
As Matthew said that, he realized that the girl's expression changed for a second, before it returned to normal in the next one. She offered her hand for a handshake, Matthew took her hand with the hand that wasn't holding the fireball, and shook it.
But, just then, the girl brought him over until he bumped into her, she looked at him with an angry expression, as she said, "Don't just shake anyone's hand! Never trust someone you just met! I could have taken this chance to beat you up!".
Matthew smiled awkwardly, since he didn't know how to respond to this girl. He then heard her say, as she let go of his hand, "I was going to beat you up, because I hate those that are favored, but, since you just lost your parents, and also know magic, in fact, you even offered to share, I guess you're free to go!".
Matthew looked at her, 'Hah! It's as if I've done something wrong, and she just let me go! Damn you! But, also, why did she react like that when I mentioned the Black Tower? Was her family also killed by them? I guess that's the only explanation I can think of!'.
After that, the girl turned her back to him, and walked toward the door, where the other three boys from her group were standing. She then looked again at Matthew, and said, "Welcome to the orphanage! Matt!".
With that, she didn't give him another look, and took off with the other three boys. Yet, before the twelve year old got out, he stopped, and turned to look at Matthew, he smiled, and said, "She wasn't planning to actually do it!".

He continued, "She only wanted to see if you were tough, or not! This is so she could prepare you for the real bad guys here, the adults!". With that, the young boy followed after his group. Matthew shut the door behind them, and sighed.
'Oof! I got off for now! I guess I don't only have to become stronger to kill the Black Tower, or to become a great Magician like the Green Mage, but also to protect myself, and those I love! The adults, han? Again with that, yet, that Robert mister has treated me well thus far!'.
'Then again, I am kind of special! Anyway, there is still the Manos sisters, and yes, they have the Fierce Lion with them, but, I would like to become stronger, and protect them even better!', thought Matthew to himself, as he lied on his bed again.
He slept for a while, and after about an hour or so, he heard a loud ringing that woke him up. He got out of the room, and returned to the hall where he saw a lot of kids hanging around, there, just like he thought, he found many kids starting to go in a certain direction.
And just like the man that brought him here told him to do, Matthew followed after the children, until they entered the canteen. Once inside, he saw how all the kids picked a plate, and went to get their food serving for the night. Matthew did the same.
But, when he was given his food, the server gestured to an empty table, as he said, "That's your place, sit there!". Matthew nodded, and took his plate, as he sat alone there. He started eating, and, only when he felt someone walking to him, did he stop.
He raised his head, and saw the girl named Max coming to him, he then heard the guy that had served him his food yell, "Max! Don't approach there, or you will be punished!".
The girl smiled, and stopped in her place. She looked at Matthew. The little boy said to the middle-aged man, "She's my friend, please let her come!". The man only gave the seven-year-old one more look, before he returned to his work.
The girl smiled and continued toward where Matthew was sitting, she then sat across him, and put down her plate, as she said, "My friend, han! That's a good one, why did you allow me to come? You know you could tell them that I am bullying you, and then I would stop once they beat me up, so, why did you not do that?".
Matthew looked at her for a second, before he said, "I know what you did!". Before the girl could understand what he said, he asked, "Do you hate the Black Tower?". The girl flinched for a moment, then looked at Matthew, and replied, "Yes! I do, but why are you asking? Why does it matter? And also, answer my question!".
Yet, Matthew ignored her again, and said, "I hate them a lot! They took my entire village from me, yesterday! If it weren't for big bro Vin, I would be dead now, my dad, and mom, they are both gone because of those bastards! I want to destroy them, will you help me, Max?".
The girl named Max only looked at him for about ten seconds, then, she finally spoke. She said, "I also hate them, they killed everyone at my village as well, it happened two months ago! But, I am also older than you, little boy, and I know my limits, they are not the kind that we can handle, in the least! I am pretty sure you know about the King's Power, right?".
The girl didn't give him a chance to respond, as she continued, "Not even him can do a thing to the Black Tower, and I am not talking about their leader, the Dark Crow! No, Even just some subordinates can kill the King's Power with ease! So, in other words, what can I? Or you, for that matter, do against them?".
"And, before you talk about the Great Empire, they won't help us! It has been like this for a complete year now, and they haven't moved! Hah! Even the legendary Sword Master is in his Court doing nothing about this!".
"What? Are there others? Who? The Black Warrior? The Hero? Those are from Valria, the only kingdom that hasn't been attacked yet, so no! don't expect my help, I don't want to die for nothing! I am lucky I survived, and I want to live my life, not go waist it on a suicide mission!".
Matthew looked at her, and smiled. He said, "Do you know that I am blessed by the One Power? And, I am not saying that to sound cool, but, because I am so blessed by it, one of the orphanage workers will pay for a Magician to teach me magic, at this age!".
Max looked at him, as her eyes showed how shocked she was to hear him say so. "What? They... those pieces of shit, will pay for a teacher? A Magician?! To teach you? But that will cost them a lot of money, why would they? Unless, you're... that blessed by the One Power?".
Matthew smiled and said, "See, I have the chance to become a great Magician, and I am sure you can become just as strong, but even then, we two alone won't be able to kill all the Black Tower Magicians! We will need many more friends, that's why, I want you to help me!".
