Chapter 19: Chapter 19 — Outer Ring of the Decaying Forest (Part III)

Both Raya and Six happened to finish their fight at the same time and regrouped where the hive tree once stood, now rapidly rotting away falling apart and releasing a pungent nauseous smell.

What was left behind writhing within the mass of rotten flesh was a glossy blue gem with black goo squirming inside.

Six who had returned to normal could barely resist the temptation of the strange object, obediently waiting for Raya's decision.

Raya pondered whether she should eat this thing for a long time, as it gave her a tempting feeling. But looking at Six beside her who was clearly agitated and drooling from her mouth, she ultimately chose to give it to Six. Perhaps it would have a better effect on her and increase her strength.

⌈Eat it.⌋ Raya said.

⌈Really?⌋ Six asked in disbelief.

⌈Just don't die or lose your sanity over it.⌋ Raya replied before turning away uninterestedly.

Six paused as she stared at Raya for a while then immediately jumped at the black gem, swallowing it whole swiftly.

The abrupt system prompts came as a surprise to Raya, specifically the part about Six's impression of herself.

It seemed at some point in time, probably through their life-and-death battles together, they had established a bond together. It was now unlikely that Six would attack her from behind or betray her in one way or another.

Relieved, Raya hastily browsed through the various skills she had, and Six's own attributes panel was brought up.

It was a pity that Raya couldn't take skills from Six, otherwise, she'd be over the moon with all the level 3 skills she could get. Though, even if she did have the ability, she would have to think twice before taking any skills since it could heavily impact Six's own combat rating.

Raya was surprised to see the skill level would also increase along with its effects.

Sitting in her balance was a whopping 800 bio-points. It was enough to upgrade several of her skills or to advance her Bio-armor to level 4. She could also upgrade one of Six's skills now that she was her parasite.

Raya pondered for a moment then allocated the points to three skills, upgrading them to the next level.

She decided on these to enhance her awareness and stealth since her skin was already incredibly tough, and her attack power was sufficient enough. She saved the remaining 200 points as there wasn't a good enough use for them at the moment.

With the enhanced senses, Raya's perception increased by a hundred percent and she could perceive things closer to her clearer and in more detail.

Within her senses was another rapidly approaching wave of mutated creatures, this time they were even fiercer and larger than before. Fortunately, they dealt with the previous wave of mutated creatures and the Hive tree before they arrived, otherwise, they really might not have made it to the next day.

The pair swiftly retreated from the wasteland heading further into the forest. On their way, they encountered and killed several groups of mutated creatures. The deeper they went into the forest the stranger the flora and fauna became.

After traveling for a very long time, they came to an open grass field where remnants of a ship lay crashed and abandoned for a very long time as seen by the overgrown weeds and vines that ensnared it.

Bovine herds and primate-looking creatures chewed at the long stalks of grass or ate weird fruits hanging from trees.

It was a drastically different view from the monotonous gray and lifeless scenery from their initial entrance into the forest.

However, the colorful wilderness wasn't entirely spared as patches here and there were withering similarly to the places they'd come from.

The mutated creatures were startled by Raya's and Six's appearance and disappeared into the distance. The two ignored them and curiously approached the rundown ship.

The metal doors to the ship's hangar were left open and inside they found dried corpses of both xenomorph and human remains. Mostly human.

⌈ A battle? ⌋ Six asked shoving aside drooping vines.

⌈ No. The humans were running away, frightened. They were trying to escape. ⌋ Raya said confidently.

The two continued to search the ship but found nothing significant.

⌈ Raya. I can feel something calling for me. ⌋

⌈ Like before? With the Hive tree? ⌋

⌈ Yeah. ⌋

⌈ Lead the way then. ⌋

Six stared at Raya for a long time, considering if it was worth the risk. Recalling both their exaggerated and seemingly limitless evolution over the past few days, she eventually nodded, determined to seek the source of the Viral Resonance.

With Six in the lead, Raya followed behind quietly, occasionally glancing at the distant mountain as she kept getting a strange feeling from the place.
