"Have any of you tried leaving?"

"What?"

"The orphanage," I clarified, "have you tried leaving?"

"Yeah, though the door's hard to break, melt, or really do anything to. And we don't have what to pick a lock with, not to mention we don't know if the door's enchanted. Benrin tried sneakin' out once, when the door was opened, but they saw ones of us was missing and imediately searched. Found him within minutes. Aesher tried attacking the 'keyper' but got his hide served."

A plan was trying to formulate itself in my head.

"We have to get out of here," I said. "Whether it be sneaking and stealing, or killing. I have seen what kindness to a cruel man is worth, and there's no way I'm going to be sold to some rich or noble lady as 'plaything'."

"You? A playthin'?" Creed asked in a playful tone, exaggeratedly stared me up and down. "Unlikely." He gave his signature grin and I gave one back.

Although he looks kind of like the incarnation of Satan, he's a good friend when you get to know him.

I then started integrating the details of our plans.

"So you said they bring food in an hour?"

"Half now."

"And how do they bring it in?"

"How else? Through the door o' course." Creed replied exasperatedly.

"And the door, they open it with keys?"

"I... I think so... Yeah, yeah there's always a jingle right before the door opens!"

I pause while surveying the room. Several ideas are formed- breaking the floor among them, and trying to lockpick the door with Sleeper In The Corner's fingers- the weird, horrifying real-life children's drawing. The others called him that cause that's all they've ever seen him do.

I had asked thoroughly about the mechanisms of the door, and it's literally just more durable. And maybe enchanted.

I ask for details, even the seemingly trivial ones. the people they know about, and whatever they can think of.

I didn't hide my intentions from anyone present, and they all seemed slightly exited. At one point I mumble about wanting a weapon, and that's when Sleeper In The Corner stood up.

He outstretched an arm before me. Reflexively, I brought up my own, and seven of his talons fell off. It was surreal, to say the least, when they regrew. His arm shrank slightly, like two inches, but it looks like it hardly made a difference. And I had seven weapons at my feet- two knives, a battle hammer, a rapier, a battle axe, a dagger, and a staff. And they were dangerous.
