Chapter – 2 The Night Zombies came to Life (1)

The dead gray sky was gloomy and depressing, and the street had been flooded with blood-red-colored water. Judging from the situation of the cars that were only half exposed to the air, the depth of the bloody water covering the streets was at least one meter. A building not far away is releasing billowing thick smoke, and it is estimated that the explosion just now should have occurred there.

This is still not the most terrifying thing. What makes An Sheng terrified is that in the blood-like water that has flooded the streets, there are countless humans and animals floating in it. And from their lifeless state, it is not hard to conclude that they are corpses!

‘What the hell is going on? A flood hit the city? But why is the water blood-red? Moreover, why are so many corpses floating in the bloody flood?’ such thoughts were raging in An Sheng’s mind.

But he didn’t have any direct answer, and could only run his imagination wild!

Although the visual and spiritual impact upon witnessing such a scene can’t be imagined, however, the scene in front of him is intertwined into a single term in An Sheng’s mind. – “Doomsday!”

Outside, there were yelling, weeping, and calls for help.

“Come on… hurry up…!”

“What the hell!”

“hurry up, save the goods before they are destroyed by the floods!”

The noise in the corridor disrupted An Sheng’s terrifying thoughts and brought him back to reality.

The previous explosion had woken up the sleeping residents of the building, and as they all saw the terrifying scene outside, each of them was overwhelmed, and then there was a riot.

Some people found that their family members had been turned into corpses. Some people were scratched and injured by the glass that was shattered by the explosion because their beds were next to the window, and it caused a chaotic scene.

The most chaotic people were the residents on the first floors because the residents of the first floor here are basically the owners of the shops on the grounds floor, when they realized that the ground floor has been flooded, they had to rush to save their goods, but as soon as they did, a terrible thing happened.

A man just jumped into the blood-colored water, and as soon as he did, he felt powerless and kept drowning in it, he tried to struggle as hard as he could, but nothing worked. Seeing the man struggling, his family members were panicked and tried to save him, but the same result happened to them… after they came into contact with the bloody water they too started to drown!

Soon, people discovered that there was something wrong with the bloody water. When someone dragged the drowning people out of the water, they were horrified to find that those people had become cold corpses!

In just ten minutes, more than 30 residents on the first floor had died from coming into contact with the bloody water.
Since the bloody rain last night, more than 100 living beings have become corpses in this building alone. And if the number is so high in just this building, the situation in other areas of the city can hardly be imagined!

The people living in the building are all ordinary people. They have never seen such a scene before, as a result, they went into a panic and the whole building was in chaos for a while. More and more people tried to close the door as tightly as possible, trying every means to isolate themselves from the outside world, especially the bloody water that has flooded the area.

An Sheng witnessed everything happening in the corridor, he was equally frightened and overwhelmed. But at the same time, he is also very fortunate that despite being drenched in bloody rainwater last night, he did not die.

In fact, after witnessing everything before him, An Sheng has also clearly remembered that he was in a Marginally Unconscious State yesterday night, but thankfully did not die and somehow survived, although the symptoms of fever and weakness are still there, he feels that he might be safe.

An Sheng felt that this might be because he didn’t have much exposure to the bloody rainwater, and he was able to save his life because he took a shower right away. However, the top priority at the moment is not to feel glad over the fact that he did not die, but to repair the windows that were shattered by the explosion, else death might approach him again.

The bloody rain is still falling, and there is no meaning to stop, understanding that something is wrong with it, An Sheng didn’t want it to enter his home by any means.

Therefore, the first thing he did was to seal the broken window with a poncho and a tarp, even after he did that, he did not feel safe enough so he dismantled the wooden coffee table and dining table, and nailed it to the window frame.
After doing all this, he breathed a sigh, then slumped on the sofa like a deflated ball.

He now needs time to think things through.

Since he woke up, he has experienced too many terrifying events. His brain has been in a state of high tension and adrenalin rush, and he has not yet calmed down to think seriously.

An Sheng pinched his thigh ruthlessly. He wanted to pinch himself to wake up so that this terrifying nightmare would end quickly, but unfortunately, the piercing pain reminded him relentlessly that all this was not some dream but a hard-core reality.

Although very depressed, An Sheng had to force himself to calm down, because fear and helplessness could not allow him to live, and he began to think about the situation in front of him.

He has of course watched a lot of movies as well as television dramas and read a lot of novels with the theme of the ‘End of the World’. Despite the bizarre storylines that vary from one to another, there was still a lot of survival knowledge given in them.

How to keep himself alive is the fundamental question he needs to think about now.

To survive, the things he needs most are food and water!

An Shang has quite a lot of food at home because he had bought 50 catties of rice and a bag of several bags of white noodles the day before yesterday, plus the remaining fresh vegetables and dried vegetables in the house are also stocked.

Calculating normally, this much ration can last for at least two months, and possibly even as long as half a year if he manages it carefully.

Next is drinking water. He couldn’t say whether the tap water was contaminated with the bloody rainwater or not, and he didn’t dare to try it. After all, the bloody rainwater had already caused floods in this area, so no one can guarantee whether the water plant is not affected.

So, the tap water is definitely not usable… but that is not a problem because there is a water tank for bathing in the flat, and it is filled with water.

Additionally, there is also the fact that An Shang has the habit of keeping a few large buckets filled with water, this is because, there are days when the water does not come into the old building, to make sure that his daily life is not affected by the problem of water shortage, An Shang keeps some water as back up…

Moreover, some barrels of water that he generally keeps in his taxi is also present in his flat, because those barrels are filled with filtrate water that he personally bought from a store, so drinking water is temporarily not a problem.

Looking at his stacked inventory, An Sheng felt a little more at ease. His idea is actually very simple, he intends to hide at his home and wait for the changes, it is best to persist until the rescue forces of the nation arrive.

In his opinion, such a big thing has happened, it is impossible for the country to just sit back and watch, maybe the rescue forces have already set off and are currently on their way, but because of some unforeseen reason, their speed is not too high as such it may take them some time to arrive here.

It was still noisy outside, and most of the residents of this old building were still struggling in fear. Such a sudden and strange disaster has struck this town, it is human nature for everyone to be unable to face it for a while. However, there are still some people with strong psychological endurance who stood up in time to temporarily maintain order.

Several older and middle-aged people and several veterans spontaneously formed a temporary rescue team, and they organized everyone to start a self-rescue operation.

The ones who have died have all died because of being exposed to the water of the bloody rain. So the conclusion that the rainwater is the cause of deaths is not hard to draw, and as such subsequent measures were taken… of course, there are also some people who were not completely exposed to the bloody rainwater, although their state is not life-threatening for the time being, they are showing a series of symptoms such as high fever and fatigue that are quite similar to An Sheng.

The people from the temporary rescue team are divided into two groups. One group gathered the bodies and placed them together in the corridor on the first floor and the other group isolated the other people who came in contact with the bloody water but haven’t died yet.

This is also a helpless move, after all, it is impossible to determine whether this strange bacteria or virus or whatever is the cause of death of so many people is contagious or not, just in case it is not a harm to isolate those people.

Most of the people who died were residents on the first floor. They were all shopkeepers and business owners on the first floor. Most of them entered the bloody water because they were in a hurry to rescue their goods and most of them died, as a result, the first floor is where they can be isolated.

An Sheng didn’t go out to help. He was afraid, afraid that he would accidentally come into contact with the bloody rain again. And if that happens, he might not have the luck that he had last night.

The floods caused widespread power outages, the Internet was also paralyzed, and cell phone signals were lost for unknown reasons. Modern people rely too much on electricity and the Internet. Without these facilities at hand, they instantly become deaf and blind, and they don’t know what is the overall situation of the world.

An Sheng’s heart has also been hanging in the air, and it is not without a reason.

He is worried, how big is the area that is affected by this bloody rain and flood?

Whether it has only affected their region, the entire nation, or even the entire world? He has no information about this… And this is a big problem.

If it’s just their area, then rescue is possible… if it’s the whole country then although the survival will be difficult, rescue is still possible if other nations intervene in the name of humanity but if it is affecting the entire world, then it can only be said that this is really the ‘End of the World!’

An Sheng has been hiding in the small house and huddling in this way. He spent the day in fear, helplessness.
It wasn’t until it was getting late that he felt hunger affect him. He hadn’t eaten for the entire day. He just wanted to get up to find something to eat, but after struggling for a long time, he still couldn’t get up because of weakness. He remain curled up all day on the sofa, so his legs were also numb.

An Sheng first helped his calf move with his hands, and then began to press his thigh hard to speed up blood circulation. It took him a long time to stand up with difficulty. After that, An Sheng simply ate two steamed buns with pickles and drank a glass of water, only then did he feel that his body had regained enough energy to figure out things.
“I don’t know what’s going on outside?”

An Sheng murmured to himself and slowly walked towards the door. He really wanted to go out and have a look, but he felt hesitant, afraid of the danger lingering outside. Of course, the curiosity within him overcome the instinct to avoid danger, and despite all the hesitation and fear stopping him, An Sheng gently opened the security door of his house and looked outside.

There are several neighbors scattered in the corridor, it is estimated that they have come outside because of the power outage, after all, there are several emergency lights in the corridor.

With the help of the low light of emergency lights, An Sheng secretly looked at these neighbors. Everyone’s expressions were heavy. Many of them were frightened by the corpses in the corridor on the first floor. Those dead people were still living people until yesterday night, but now… they are nothing more than corpses.

Thinking that if they can’t save themselves, they may also meet the same fate as those corpses. It is estimated that anyone may have this expression now. After all, they are all ordinary people. Where have they experienced such an end of the world situation before?!
