Chapter – 4 The Night Zombies came to Life (3)
“Please come upstairs!” Lao Zhang was the first to regain his composure after the first shock and terror. He was a soldier with greater psychological endurance than the average person, but he was still a step behind, and the monsters were faster.
The monster with lizard-like scales was the first to strike. The tongue sprang out and wrapped around Su Yao’s neck like a flexible cobra.
A 200-pound obese man can easily be dragged right now, and a thin Su Yao can’t stand up to such a powerful force. In the morning, the town’s streets were inundated with bloody water and dead people, and now there’s a biochemical crisis in the evening. What the hell is going on here? So, what’s going on here? What was going to happen next?!
An Sheng approached the house’s door and peered out the peephole to assess the situation outside. He couldn’t see what was going on beyond the door, but he could hear certain things and try to piece together what was going on.
Someone yelled something along the lines of “stop the corridor!” or “don’t allow these living dead get upstairs!” An Sheng considered himself extremely fortunate. He had to express gratitude to the spontaneously created rescue squads. It is anticipated that if the deceased persons in the tower on the second level had not been parked in preparation, the entire tower would be full of zombies at this moment. Outside, the spontaneous rescue squads should be attempting to barricade the passage to prevent the zombies from downstairs from running upstairs at this time.
An Sheng was battling it out on the inside. He was terrified. He saw the scenario outside, whether those man-eating beasts were actual Zombies or not, and he wanted to help. It wasn’t that he had some self-sacrificing spirit or anything; he just wanted to help them to help themselves. If the corridor isn’t immediately shut, some of the zombies may be able to reach the top floors, putting his life in danger, which he doesn’t want to risk. An Sheng decided to walk out and assist the rescue squad in blocking the corridor after a brief psychological fight.

An Sheng decided to walk out and assist the rescue squad in blocking the corridor after a brief psychological fight.
An Sheng noticed the scene on the second floor as soon as he exited. The building was filled with dense smoke and a burning and terrible odour. The corridors and passages were a shambles, and the broken furniture combined with the bodies gave him a shiver up his spine. The undead who were affected by the blast are the most stunning. Their vitality is so strong that they wouldn’t die even if their legs were blasted off, their arms were missing, their bellies were ripped open, and their internal parts were strewn about the floor. Even though his entire body had been blown apart, there was one zombie who was still moving… The blown-up zombies were slowly getting up, looking for fresh flesh and blood, and these horrific monsters were still alive.
On the fifth floor, An Sheng lives. According to the current circumstances, this floor is momentarily safe, but he must rapidly find a means to block the corridor; otherwise, when the zombies walk up the stairs, there will be no safety.
Many people have witnessed zombies eating living humans and have been scared, which is understandable given the circumstances… Only a few individuals came out of their homes to block the passage, while most of these people were taken aback and ran into their homes, locking the door to protect themselves from the zombies, like An Sheng had done previously.
One of them is An Sheng’s next-door neighbour, a young woman in her thirties who exited her apartment nearly simultaneously with An Sheng.
This woman, according to An Sheng, is a single mother with two tiny children. It wouldn’t be unfair to say that those who chose to rise up at this time were all heroic individuals, and seeing that this solitary frail woman in front of him had the fortitude to do so, he couldn’t help but respect her.
An Sheng and his neighbour exchanged a few glances before walking together to the stairwell.
An Sheng and the young woman took their time walking down the corridor. The scenario on the fourth floor was identical to that on the fifth, if not slightly more dangerous… The majority of the people had locked their doors and were afraid to open them. The screams and noises grew louder and clearer. An Sheng and the young woman both came to a halt at this point and exchanged glances.
“Are you going down?” The first person to speak was the young woman.
An Sheng remained silent. He couldn’t think of anything to say. He understood that coming down to help would make him safer, but he was terrified at the prospect of facing those man-eating zombies.
“Brother, can you give me the knife on your back?” the young woman said quietly after An Sheng had ignored her for a long time.

For a brief while, An Sheng was surprised, and he glanced at the young woman in front of him with amazement, wondering if she was terrified of death. When the woman saw An Sheng’s shocked expression, she immediately grasped what he was trying to say.
“Big brother,” She says. “I’m afraid, too, but I’m a mother of two children who I must safeguard at all costs. My children will perish if those man-eating beasts make it upstairs!”
An Sheng was reminded of his mother when he heard her words. The young woman in front of him’s first thought and priority wasn’t to find a means to assure her own safety; instead, she wanted to protect her children, and in order to do so, she risked her life by blocking the corridor with the rescue team.
“What is your name, Sister?” An Sheng wasn’t sure why he was thinking of asking the other person’s name right now, but that’s what he was thinking.
“Su Yao,” says the narrator. The young woman replied in hushed tones.
“Sister Su, I’m single and don’t have any relatives remaining in this world, so I don’t have anything to worry about,” An Sheng said as he strolled down the corridor. “On the other hand, you have two children to look after. If something goes wrong, you must turn around and rush back as quickly as possible. You’re not going to be able to…”
An Sheng’s courage, which had nearly vanished due to fear, was resurrected when he saw a mother willing to take risks for her children. After all, he is a man, and he couldn’t accept that he had degenerated to this degree… Is he not good enough for a weak lady now?
Hearing An Sheng’s comments astonished the young woman, but she nodded lightly, and the two exchanged silent glances before proceeding down carefully.
When they arrived on the third story floor, they noticed that it was in shambles. Only about a dozen of the individuals on the third floor were actually doing something. The majority of the other residents elected to hide in their homes, while a few brave souls simply stood at the door and gazed downstairs. The members of the rescue squad that had been built up spontaneously in the building were largely the ones who took the lead in blocking the passage.
An Sheng and the young woman did not say anything after viewing the situation clearly and immediately joined the rescue squad to carry the sundries. The entrance to the stairs was already half blocked by sundries, which restricted the zombies, despite their desperate crawling through the stairs and attempts to reach this side. However, a strong man was rapidly swinging an iron rod to attack the zombies and prevent them from reaching this side. The only problem was, the number of zombies is too high, and he alone isn’t enough to stop them all, so the passage must be sealed as quickly as possible.
Residents of this building have long complained about the amount of rubbish that accumulates in the corridors due to a lack of disposal options.
The irony is that the rescue squad is now using all of that piled-up debris to block routes.
If this building was truly as clean as the residents desired, the rescue team would not have been able to block the corridor, allowing the zombies to gain access to the upper floors.
The height of the blockade became higher and higher as more rubbish and sundries were heaped up, and the hallway was eventually blocked. Looking at the piles of rubble, it’s clear that getting through them won’t be easy, thus the possibilities of zombies making it to the top floors are slim, which is a relief for the time being.
All of the members of the rescue squad dropped on the ground exhausted after successfully sealing the corridor, giving them a chance to catch their breath.
According to a preliminary estimate, the number of zombies on the bottom floor has risen to between 200 and 300… Hundreds of the living dead roared like wild monsters towards the living inhabitants on the upper floors. All of these living dead were once living individuals who have now evolved into man-eating monsters.
A woman on the top floors couldn’t help but cover her mouth as tears flowed down her face as she peered down at the live dead on the lower floors. Fear, despair, helplessness, and terror were all visible on her face; in fact, not only she was crying silently, but so were the other tenants of the building.
Nobody knows what will happen next, and in the face of such a catastrophe, human beings are truly tiny and worthless.
