Chapter 5: Five: Family Issues

Later that day, Luo Jiahuang made an appearance in Paradise's headquarters.

He burst into the CEO office only to find it empty. Looking around, he thought, Where is that useless daughter of mine? Doesn't she know that as CEO, she can't slack off???

Just as he was about to leave, he ran straight into a firm, broad chest. glancing up, he saw Lorenzo and Antoine. Behind them, was none other than Luo Xueli.

Her eyes narrowed at her father. "What are you doing here? Haven't I already said that I can handle Paradise?"

"Then where have you been?"

"In a meeting. I don't trust some of the people here, so I fired them and had Marco, Ferdinand, and Brandon interview new hires. They're still working on it, but I trust them to find reliable people. I'm switching up the PR department, the design department, and the tech department. It'll take me a few days to implement everyone new and get them adjusted to how I'm going to run Paradise. I have a meeting in two weeks with Alfred Gunther, the CEO of King Watches from Geneva, Switzerland. He's agreed to promote some of our products in Switzerland if we promote some of his. Of course, I agreed. That's called good business."

"You're risking losing valuable customers here!" Luo Jiahuang exploded. "How will our customers feel if you suddenly start promoting a Western brand? They'll think you don't value Paradise's products!"

Lorenzo and Antoine edged closer to her, protectively.

"That's not it at all," Luo Xueli replied calmly. "I'm trying to introduce our products to the west. Right now, we're only promoting in China. If we expand our viewership internationally, then our product sales will rise. I've seen it happen before between American, French, and Italian products while I was abroad. It can be done; it just needs to be done right."

With a strange glint in her eye, she added, "Plus, I have a... close associate who can help me with our international business if need be."

Alessandro already wears the Han watch that I gave him for our wedding. It was one of Paradise's first products, but it's reliable.

"How dare you involve foreigners in our affairs!" Luo Jiahuang raged as his hands clenched into fists. "You are destroying Paradise!"

Lorenzo blocked her completely and gave her father a cold glare. "Lay a hand on her, and you will regret it."

"I'm not destroying Paradise. I'm bringing it into the modern era. We cannot survive by one country alone. Look at other businesses. They sell to America, to the United Kingdom, to Australia, to half of Europe. We cannot keep up with them, and their sales are higher than ours. Why? Because they sell internationally along with domestically. If we do not... Paradise will not exist in ten years. That is this company's reality, Father."

He gaped at her. Her words made sense, and he knew she was right, but he didn't want to admit it to easily.

"If you bring Paradise down, don't bother considering yourself a Luo anymore!"

I'm no longer a Luo anyways, what does it matter? she thought and snickered.

"I'm not even the legitimate daughter of the Luo family. Father, as the second child, I've never gotten the same rights as XueheIn China, during the One Child Policy, only the firstborn would be registered as a legitimate child, no matter who the father and mother were. Second children could not go to public schools and would not be considered legitimate by the government. . So why should I care about some name?"

His eyebrows twitched as her arrogance. He had half a mind to teach her a lesson right then and there, but her bodyguards made him pause. Chuffing, Luo Jiahuang wagged his finger at her warningly.

"Don't you dare mess up Paradise."

Then, he turned and walked out of the office. As he approached the elevators, he heard the other foreigners talking amongst each other, "The netizens are already criticizing Madam, but she doesn't even care. Madam truly is worthy; she can still hold her head high when others try to pull her down."

It had been William speaking with Brandon. Brandon nodded in agreement.

"Indeed. Madam saw all of the comments this morning after the news was released. She didn't even bat an eye. Then again, what she's gone through... is far worse than what any netizen can say about her. They don't know Madam and criticize her for stealing her sister's birthright. But as a Luo too, can she also not have a claim to the business?"

Luo Jiahuang's eyebrows knit together in confusion. Why do they keep calling Xueli Madam?

Shaking his head, he approached the elevators and pressed the down button. William and Brandon glanced at him, knowing he had heard everything they said.

They left their places and walked towards the office. Knocking, Luo Xueli looked up and motioned for them to enter. Inside, they cleared their throats.

"Mr. Luo has just left," William reported.

"Good. I can't stand that old man anymore. He annoyed me before I had left for Paris, but he annoys me even more now."

Her phone rang, and she looked at the caller id: Alfred Gunther.

A smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth. She accepted the call and put it on speaker.

"Hello, Mr. Gunther."

"Ms. Luo. I'm interested to see how your company compares to mine."

She chuckled lightly. "Our designs are more Chinese traditional than new and modern. You have generations like the Aero, the Summit, the Retro, and the Compass. We have generations named after Chinese Dynasties. We have generations of Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, et cetera. Surely people in Switzerland would like a piece of the Oriental?"

He laughed out loud. "You know how to play your cards, Ms. Luo. I must admit, I doubted you before, but now I believe you are a shrewd businesswoman. It will be my pleasure to meet you in a couple weeks."

"I'm looking forward to it, Mr. Gunther. I will have a chauffeur personally pick you up from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport. Your flight and hotel stay will also be covered by me. If we're going to be business partners in the future, then let me treat you now to show you my sincerity."

"Hahaha, Ms. Luo, you needn't spend so much on me. I'll accept your chauffer, but I don't mind paying for my flight and hotel expenses. You're still new to the business world, so I'll give you a word of advice: don't spread your money out so openly."

Luo Xueli smirked. "Of course. Thank you for the pointer, Mr. Gunther. Have a good rest of your day."

After he hung up, she leaned back in her chair and grinned triumphantly. Lorenzo's eyes twinkled.

"Scar, you played him right into your trap."

"That's right. He'll think I'm quite kind and magnanimous. But he'll also think I'm naïve, which is exactly what I want. When I reveal my true capabilities, I'm sure Alfred Gunther will agree to align with us."

"You chose Gunther first because of his dealings in the Underworld, right?"

Luo Xueli nodded. "If he can align not just with the Luo's Paradise, but also the Moretti Organization, then it will be beneficial to both me and Alessandro."

"My brother must be psychic. If he could see you now... he would wish he had met you back when you first arrived in Europe."
