"So let me get this straight," Monty said, pointing an accusatory finger at James. "After an insane megalomaniac took over communications and announced the craziest story known to man, you had a weird screen appear in front of you talking about your blood or whatever, and the first thing you decide to do is agree?"

Monty simmered, jutting her finger toward me. "And you! Not only do you have a fancy screen, but you skipped the rest of the video to play with it?! What is wrong with both of you!" Monty said with a deep sigh, harshly cutting into a head of cabbage.

"Uhh, basically yeah," James said, nervously shifting in his chair. "You just make us seem a lot dumber."

"What was the third message anyway?" Vex asks, both curious and cautiously optimistic.

"Here, unlike you two, I watched and recorded basically the whole thing. See for yourself." Monty said, tossing her phone to Vex with the video pulled up.

Yet, the moment he tried to start watching it, the phone began to make a horrible ringing noise. On instinct, Vex dropped the phone, only to have it hover in front of him in mid-air. As the room fell silent, the screen on the phone began to flicker as it fell to the floor slowly rapidly.

Monty was the one to act first, picking up the phone and sighing in relief as it turned on as normal.

"What the fuck was that?" Monty asked looking over to Vex in a mix of confusion and disbelief.

"Couldn't tell ya, it just sorta happened," Vex said shrugging. It was the truth, as far as he knew at least. Yet, as Monty opened her phone and attempted to pull up the video again, her face began to twist and contort.

"It's gone." She muttered. "The video, it's gone."

"What?" The two boys said in unison, staring between each other and Monty in disbelief.

"What do you mean what? You heard me, I'm not speaking Korean, the video. It's gone you dickhead." Monty said, quickly regaining her composure. "Look, whatever, it's probably more of the weird magic shit he was talking about. Basically, he wants to replace humanity."

"You've lost me completely," Vex said, sitting down and sighing.

"It is literally exactly what I said. According to him, he wants to separate the 'wheat' from the 'chaff', apparently, just over half the population has some kind of screen like you guys. Basically, he wants people like you to kill people like me, and return the world to how it apparently used to be, where everyone had some sort of screen thing." Monty said, her voice quivering yet holding firm. "I know you won't actually do it, but... just turn on the news."

Walking over to the couch and grabbing the remote, Vex flipped onto the news channel only to quickly flip the TV off.

Carnage. That was the only way to describe it.

Every news station aired the same thing, using different words and footage. Some channels didn't even show any footage and were simply eerily silent.

"It's been like that ever since the announcement, I just couldn't stomach it so I turned it off. Whatever those weird screens say, combined with the words that freak said, it turned the whole world upside down." Monty said, her voice shaking and nearly breaking.

After exchanging a few more words, the three of them ate a silent lunch, with Vex electing to have James stay the night, deeming it too dangerous for the time being.

Laying in bed, Vex was wide awake, unable to sleep for even a wink. All he could do was stare at the ethereal glowing screen before him

[ Congratulations! The Hand of Fate has selected you as one of its chosen! ]

[ Will you accept? ]

[ Yes / No ]

Alright, here goes nothing. Vex thought to himself, as he finally mentally pressed the 'Yes' button.

Suddenly, Vex felt a wave of euphoria come over him, as his usual screen morphed itself, taking on the appearance of a large booklet instead of a plain golden screen.

[ Congratulations! You have been deemed eligible to walk the Path of The Emperor!]

[ Temporary Class 'Inheritor' will be generated ]

With a flash of golden light, the booklet disappeared, replaced by one nearly four times the size, expanding in all directions.
