From a lower sect category, Ellisa and Ureff's Great Phoenix of the South Sect had been promoted as a higher sect category in the competition. Despite these categories, in the real competition, there are no divisions of sects.
These were the only categories to know them, not to divide them.
And as Ellisa and Ureff had been in the higher sects, they had now received better accommodations.
They were asked if they already had lodged, and as they still didn't have it, they were recommended a top-class lodging house with free expenses. However, despite it being free, the name of the lodging house would rise as they were promoted in a way that strong cultivators resided temporarily.
It was absurd, but for this reputation, their trend would rise as it would attract people to stay in their lodging house for some unlogical reasons, like honor.
"Hmm... Now that we have been like this... Should we try to investigate that sect Liam was mentioning? That Profound Symbol Sect." Ellisa mumbled, suggesting to Ureff what they should do while waiting.
The competition's preliminary round would start in an hour. But as they were from a higher sect, which also has the privilege of not attending preliminaries, Ellisa and Ureff only had to wait for the official opening of the competition which was in a few days.
Ureff gave an eye to Ellisa, who was only lying on her bed. He then stopped playing with some blood and grinned.
"What stage are you at right now?" Ureff asked.
"Out of nowhere? Well, it is now at the King Spirit Realm."
"I already know that." Ureff hissed. "What I mean is the real stage, the sealed one." Ureff continued with an intrigued smile.
Ellisa, being intrigued by Ureff's kind of tone, smiled with him. He then lifted her body to sit on the bed and darted an eye on Ureff.
"You mean the dantian-core? Ha... Why would you bring that over to this topic? It isn't even connected." Ellisa uttered.
"Well, I am only really curious since we had to wait for Master before unsealing our cores. What was it, really?" Ureff continued to press.
Ellisa just released a sigh as she gestured her hand at the level of her chest. Then a few flickers of light emerged, creating a magic circling, floating at the level of her chest.
She looked at Ureff with uncertain eyes this time, then suddenly smiled as she pushed the magic circles in Ureff's direction.
"Look at this..."
The magic circle disappeared for a short time, then flickered again, brightly this time. The magic circle covered Ureff's body, and a few seconds later, his eyes glowed, seeing what Ellisa's real cultivation was.
"What the heck? Are you already at the first level of the Emperor Spirit Realm? Tsk. How? I mean, I am more talented than you at controlling spiritual energies! Even the third energy in my dantian-core, I had reached the point that even you can't peek at."
Those were full of Ureff's complaints that Ellisa only scoffed at as a mockery of him. She also shrugged her shoulders, which made Ureff grumble.
"Care to explain?"
Ellisa scoffed, then slowly explained things to him.
"You do know that my special ability is draining energy. What do you think about it? Learning cultivation will be good for me, so I learned that in cultivation, there are two main environments you should remember. The higher the altitude, the more condensed the spiritual energy is. The lower the altitude, the purer the spiritual energy is. However, have you ever thought about where these energies are coming from?" Ellisa then tried to hang up his anticipation.
Just when Ureff realized what she was talking about, he cursed.
"Fuck. You have outdone it, Sister Ellisa. I hadn't thought that apart from absorbing from others, you could have the ability to absorb more quickly from the spiritual root." Ureff said.
Ellisa gestured, pointing at him with a smile.
"That's it, Ureff. You finally understood what I was telling you. Spiritual roots are like the fault line on the ground, but the difference is that they have more condensed spiritual energy, more condensed than at higher altitudes. And you know what, through my studies, I learned that you can cultivate directly from the spiritual root."
Ureff couldn't help but crumble on his seat in self-disappointment.
"I haven't thought of it. But won't it be dangerous? I mean, the spiritual root is like a live mana wire."
(live wire = live mana wire, just a magical version of it)
"You have really matured, Brother Ureff."
"Tsk... Are you teasing me?" Ureff asked with an irritated tone, slightly leaking some of his aurae.
Ellisa not only smirked at him as she stood up, but she also released some of her cultivation base.
"Maybe you should try telling me what your real cultivation base is, Ureff. It seems that you are showing some disrespect to the person who helped you out of that predicament in some bandit den."
Ureff grunted, then stopped showing some aura. He then stood up from his seat and made some magic circles using his blood arts. After that, Ellisa had the ability to see what his real cultivation was.
Ellisa made a serious eye at him as she assessed his real cultivation, but as soon as she saw it, she almost snorted, suppressing her laughter.
"What kind of progress is that? You seem to have overestimated your capabilities, Brother Ureff." Ellisa sneered at him while pointing at his dantian-core like a small seed of beans.
"It is not even bad. I am on the sixth level of the King Spirit Realm, nearing the peak." Ureff defended himself, acting flustered about having to state his reasoning.
Ellisa looked at Ureff, then tapped his shoulders.
"It is alright to be too defensive, Brother Ureff. After all, your specialty does lie in absorbing energy through blood, not energy from any source. And after all, you don't really need the third energy that much; you only need it to reinforce yourself. Your blood arts are strong enough for a vampire."
"Tsk. Stupid chicken. Why would you even have a great ability? " Ureff complained.
"It is really okay. We only need to find Master before being restricted by the laws of the Four Heavens. That is why we chose to hide our real cultivation from others." Ellisa explained.
Then she continued, "Even yours is not that important to hide, it is still needed since secrets make your card more formidable."
"Yeah, yeah. What about investigating the Profound Symbol? Should we get involved with them or observe them from afar?" Ureff asked.
"Bringing your enemies closer is indeed beautiful, but we should try observing them from afar first. After all, we should not be complacent because we still don't know them and their standards."
"Indeed. I truly think that they have a few cards up their sleeves since they have been a higher sect for a thousand years. I mean, should we try to investigate the roots of their sect first?" Ureff suggested.
"If we have time..." Ellisa put her chin on her right hand, caressing it while contemplating. Then, an idea came into her mind.
"What if we try to observe them now and weaken them using my ability? Then you help me with contaminating their blood." Ellisa suggested.
Ureff smiled as he heard what Ellisa was suggesting. It was slightly dark and cowardly, but he doesn't care as it is what his race truly is. They are all cunning, apart from being noble.
"I understand. Then let's start investigating them. The person who can bring an important piece by night will have a punishment." Ureff said.
Ellisa raised her eyebrow and asked, "What kind of punishment?"
"The loser will have to surrender one level of their cultivation. How about it?"
"I am in! That's exciting!" Ellisa answered with a smirk on her face.
"Okay!" Then, in an instant, Ureff disappeared like blood dissipating. He moved through the air with his blood arts, and just as Ellisa saw it, she could only scoff.
"What a tricky vampire. I won't be letting you have the victor, dumbass."

After their long investigation, nighttime had already arrived, and Ellisa and Ureff went back to their lodging house carrying their best piece of information.
"What do you have? Better not to copy what I already mentioned, Brother Ureff." Ellisa uttered as if she mocks Ureff's personality.
"Hmm... I don't do that, Sister Ellisa. How about you, not copy what I mention."
"Tsk. Let's be fair. Let's write down everything we have learned and read. How about it? You will read mine. I will read yours." Ellisa suggested.
Ureff nodded softly, then took a paper from a desk near them.
"Let's start."
They then started writing what they had learned, and as an hour had passed, they all saw themselves holding papers with information about what they had observed earlier.
But as they read all the contents, they were surprised to find a piece of information that was essential and the same as each other.
