Chapter 40: Chapter 39: the blessings of Greya

It is early morning again when I wake up, throwing the blankets to the foot of my comfy royal bed.

I jump out of bed as I do every morning, open the curtains in a hurry and take in the view. 

Ah...disappointment, looks like today will be a grey, rainy day. There is not much light outside yet, so it must still be quite early. Thankfully Nana is not yet here to complain that I am walking in my nightgown, "because I should know better as a princess."

 

While looking at the rain coming down gently, forming little falling drops on my balcony windows, I think about the past days. A lot has happened, and I still have lots more to do. Me, being a genuine goddess, I can't say that I ever thought of this happening while back on Earth. But this is my new reality, and I have a country to fix. People are going to build temples, in my honour. I hope I can keep my head cool. 

Luckily the cat-kin don't know that I am truly a kitsune, maybe some of them would hold that against me. But whatever, they don't need to know...yet.... 

 

I think I have earned some me-time today, before I start my new job as Greya the goddess. It really does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it?  "Ah, I know just the thing!" I said. 

 

Let's see how this is going to work. I put my slippers on my feet, and walk towards my trusty bedroom mirror and take in my morning appearance. Yeah..I have looked better, but nothing a quick bath and some make-up can't fix!

 

But first, I have to try this. I focus on my appearance, close my eyes and think "cat-kin, cat-kin, cat-kin form."

I opened one eye first, then disappointed the other. But nothing happened, I am still Greya the kitsune.

Of course, then it hits me, this is my normal, princess appearance!  Only my divine form can change into either a kitsune or cat-kin form. 

 

I focus on my divine form, and flash! I now look like my kitsune divine form. I really look like Ima's daughter now. Strange, a bit of biology, some DNA here and there, and your appearance can be so different. 

I make sure to not let my divinity show, so no special effects like light surrounding me. I just looked like any other kitsune now. 

 

And now....time to go all cat. Maybe I need to spin around like superman, "supercat!" 

Well, yes, that was lame, but, "ahhhhh!" I said out loud.

 

"It actually worked! Now look at me. My tail is no longer as fluffy, but it is more curved. It also looks like it has several parts that move independently, more like a snake than a fluff. It is cute, but I miss my fluffy tail already. 

On my head, my ears are not as fluffy, but they feel softer somehow. While touching them and the fur on top of my head, I feel something strange happening, I feel very relaxed and "purrrrrrr."   

 

"What? I actually purred?" I said. "Nobody said something about that!" I blushed, but nobody heard that, I hope.

 

Wow, my eyes too. They really look like cat eyes. My fur is now dark, almost a deep black, but it has a glossy quality to it, I like it! Ah, and my muzzle, it is somewhat shorter....no, nothing can replace my Kitsune form. While I stare at my changes, my tail is moving on its own, waving and curling and twisting, just like a genuine cat.  

 

Well, time to get that bath and get dressed. Or can I get dressed in the blink of an eye when I am in my divine form? I am going to test that! 

 

After a very relaxing bath, I stand before the bathroom mirror and try something new. I say "clothes!" and yes, I am fully dressed. "Now THAT is convenient. Maybe I wouldn't even need to take a bath. Meh, I want one anyway." I look like a real goddess now, wearing a very stylish pink kimono and sandals. And yes, on the rim of the kimono, some cat paw prints can be seen. There is only one explanation for this "thanks mom! " I thought. 

 

The reply came immediately in my mind, "sorry sweetie, you are just too cute, now you are perfect! Now have breakfast, not that you need it in your divine form, but you need some time with your family before you can start on your first day as a goddess. Now good luck dear."

 

I smiled, and then decided to go downstairs, to have some breakfast. I opened the door, but didn't get very far.  

 

"Stop right there! Intruder! Intruder!" Minako was standing guard, of course she didn't recognise me in my cat form.

 

I raised my arms, to show my surrender.  "Minako, Minako, stop! It's me, Greya!" I said. 

Oh, right, even my voice is a bit different. 

 

"No way you are Greya. I am not blind, you are a cat, you, you catwoman!" Now that was just rude.

 

"Minako, I am in my divine form. Remember when we were in Acria? You protected me, remember?"  I tried to convince her.

 

"Well, everybody can say that! Don't move, or I will attack!" 

 

Alright, enough of this, I turned back to my regular kitsune form, still wearing my new kimono, with a flash. 

 

Minako was surprised by the flash and reacted as she was trained to do, by stabbing me in defence. Her dagger stuck in my arm! "Ouch! My goddess, why did, ouch, this bloody hurts!" Then blood started to drip out of my wound.

 

"Greya? Oh my goddess what have I done?"

 

"Yes, I am Greya, now you, ouch! OUCH!, now you believe me? Now get that thing out of me!"

 

She pulled the dagger out of my arm with one quick motion, "OUCH!  grrrrr"  I growled really loud, grimacing while I put my hand on my arm and started the healing process. Only a few seconds later the wound was gone. 

 

But the shock and pain were still in my system. I sat down on the floor when two guards came running to me.  "princess, what is going on?"

 

"Nothing, stand down guys. There was just a misunderstanding. Everything is under control. Minako thought I was an intruder. But it was all a big mistake."

 

Minako prostrated before me, her head touching the floor, "I am so sorry princes, this is all my fault. Yes, it was a big misunderstanding, please forgive me. I accept any punishment!"

 

My smile returned to my face, no, a grin appeared. "Anything? you say?"

"Good, then you will join me for breakfast now. That is an order and your punishment."

 

"No, no, no, I can't eat with the royal family. Not after what happened.. "

 

"Alright guards, you are dismissed, thank you for coming so fast to my rescue, I really appreciate it. I will inform my father what happened, so please don't worry about it." I said.

 

"Yes princess, as you command!" and they left me and Minako.

 

"Minako? Now stand up and listen to me." 

 

She did, and is now really focused, her eyes still red from crying. 

I embraced her for a minute, then said "are you fine now?"

 

"Yes, princess, I am. Thank you. And again....sorry."

 

"No harm done. But I wonder, Mizuki should have briefed you both about my new job. But I guess she hasn't yet, right?"

 

"New job, princess?"

 

"Yes, I am now a full goddess, responsible for the cat-kin. The form I used was my divine form. You wouldn't have injured me in that form, but I changed back so you could recognise me. That was my mistake."

 

We then went downstairs together, where I forced her to join my family for breakfast. I explained what had happened, so all was fine again. Except for my arm, I could still feel the injury. I will give it another healing later. Indeed, Mizuki said that she was planning to inform Tomoko and Minako this morning, but it was too late already. 

 

After our breakfast, all was forgiven and forgotten, until mother asked me to show how I looked in my divine cat-kin form. Oh dear, here I go again. "transform!" I know, sounds more like a magical girl thing than a goddess thing, but it will have to do for now.

 

At the breakfast table now sat a goddess, looking like the cutest cat-kin ever. Well, if you believe my mother that is.  "Aaawwww, Greya, you are sooo cute!!! Let me hug you."

 

I tried to run away, but mother was a bit faster, she captured me and hugged me. And of course, my ears must be enchanted to attract hands, as I was being fluffed... "puurrrrrrr" 

 

"Ahh.. mother stop, it is so embarrassing, nya"  Oh no, I am not going to talk like a cat from those old cartoons, no, I will not! 

 

Why did I even talk like that? Ah, I heard the answer in my mind "sorry sweetie, my bad." Followed by what sounded like her giggle. Great, she is now just teasing me again.

 

I sat down, finishing my tea, but didn't get very far. Mizuki was swaying her tail, it moved slowly from left to right, then my tail started doing the same. I was completely focused on her tail, then prepared to jump, as mother shook me awake "Greya!" 

 

"Ah? Wha? What happened?"

 

"You look like you were in trance, dear. Are you really alright?" Mother asked, while father tried to contain a laugh. Tried, because he started laughing at me.

 

"Father, now stop it. I am a proper goddess, nya! ...Ahhh mother Ima stop that! You are all so mean!!!"  

 

Surprise surprise, Minako then embraced me. Not touching my sensitive ears, not fluffing me. Just giving me a much needed hug.

 

"Thanks Minako, I needed that."  I was relaxed again, so were the others. 

 

I looked at them, then glared at them. "Please, I know you mean well, but you are not helping. I need to start my job today and I am really stressed about it. So please give me some peace, I need it," tears coming from my eyes. 

 

After a family group hug, and some much needed apologies from them, all things were fine within our family again. 

 

Then I remembered, "Mother, you may want to have the stain in front of my bedroom door cleaned. That dried blood doesn't really look so nice." I made sure to say it in a neutral way, not wanting to hurt Minako.

Just to be safe, I winked at Minako, and mother said that all would be fine. 

 

"Alright my dear family. It is time for me to start my new job. I will be teleporting between places for a while. 

If you urgently need me, I think mother Ima would be able to track me down. But in the future, maybe you want to build a shrine where you can pray to me.." I looked dead serious, then started to laugh really hard, as did the others. 

 

Well, until mother showed her grin and said, "maybe we will honey, maybe we will." 

 

Now it was my turn to look at her, was she serious? Nah, must be a joke? No, still not laughing? Me and my big mouth. 

 

Father stopped the glaring contest that mother and I had going for a minute and said "Greya, dear, I think you need to go now, or your mother is really going to dedicate a shrine to you..." 

 

I looked at him, said "right, thanks father," and I left them in a flash.
