Chapter 30: Volume 1, Chapter 29: Experience

1723 hours, 25 June 0145…

It's all over for once. We've slayed the 3 Infectoids. Unfortunately, the cost that I had to bear is Scott's worsening infection rate. Scott stared at me with a pale sight. He reached his left hand toward my right shoulder, and then he said to me, stutteringly.

"Tsuyuki… would you dare to kill me… if once… I become infected?" He asked me with a slightly saddened face.

I approached him by crouching, patted his chest, and replied with a gentle smile.

"Maybe. But you still had lots of time to redeem yourself. Before the moment I'll end your suffering,"

"Yeah… I guess so…" He added stutteringly while looking to the other side.

Suddenly, Scott closes his eyes slowly. And that shocked me to death. Looking at Scott closed his eyes, where I thought he was dead. So I checked his pulse rate on his neck to see if he's deceased. And luckily, he's not dead yet. His pulse rate beating slowly in each 2 seconds. He's just fallen unconscious from exhaustion. And he needs some rest to regain back his energies.

When my sight was glued at unconscious Scott, my friends arrived at this place and called me in a sudden.

"TSUYUKI!" Axel shouted at me in the distance.

I looked at my right side and saw my friends arrived to give me a help.

"LEADER!" Christine shouted at me whilst approached me.

I stood up and greeted them.

"You guys have arrived.,"

"Wait, is that Scott?!" Axel asked while pointing at Scott.

"Yes," I replied while nodded.

"Oh, my god! What's happened with him?!" Christine asked in shock, looking at the sprawled Scott behind me.

"He's not died. He's just exhausted and needs a rest. Unfortunately, his infection is getting worse. So you'll better take care of it quickly," I answered casually.

Furthermore, Axel, Christine, and Veronica approached Scott, to take care of his infection quickly.

"Got it!" Christine added.

When Axel, Christine, and Veronica took care of Scott, Joshua approached me and asked.

"Do you know where Florent went?" He asked, seriously.

"I've already kicked him out of this place," I answered casually.

And then, he exclaimed.

"My apology is that we don't have enough time to chase after Florent. Because we're busy taking care of the surrounding Infectoids,"

"Only if we have enough time, this won't happen for the second time," He continued while looking down.

"It's alright, we've already accomplished our objective. And we let the medical team took care of Scott, later on," I replied.

"Yeah… I guess so…" Joshua added while raising his shoulders.

Me and Joshua approached Axel, Christine, and Veronica to see whether Scott's condition is getting better or worsening.

"How was it, guys?" I asked to them all, while crouching beside Christine.

Christine looked at me and answered.

"Unfortunately, his immunity system is damaged. Maybe because it's wounded from the battle against Florent.,"

"Can it be fixed?" I asked to her.

She looked down for a second with a slightly downed expression, and then she replied.

"Unfortunately, it has to be replaced with a newer one. However, they will erase several memories about recent events during the replacement of his immunity system. Because the immunity system is also a stimulus system that will transfer all sense into the consciousness system. And when this thing is broken, the entire body can't feel anything.,"

"Oh… Ok…" I replied as I nodded in understanding.

Suddenly, Joshua approached my back and asked me.

"By the way, Tsuyuki. It seems like you're recognized that Florent guy. Would you like to tell us about him?"

Furthermore, I stood up and explaining my relationship with Florent.

"7 years ago, I took a part-time job as a stage crew who's setting up the stage properties in the largest drama theater at New Hetfield called Milestone Theater. During the practice day, I met Florent and Gina (Florent's younger sister). Florent is the actor for the drama called Night Witch, whilst Gina is the costume designer. It's a story based on an old short story about an old witch needed to survive in the night, by working and hunting in the night, whilst facing tons of threat from the witch hunter. He's playing as the professional witch hunter,"

"How much did I get paid? 500 credits per performance. And I'm not just working for Florent's performance. Because I'm working for all kinds of performances in every weekend. And I need money to paying the academy bills in each semester,"

"Also that day, during the break time of the practice day, I make friends with Florent and Gina by chit chatting each other. They're such a chill people. Concurrently, Florent confessed to me, he's kept rejected by 71 drama industries. Because he's being overacting during the selection, where he's too carried away with the character he's acting on,"

"The next day is where the actual performance has begun. I worked hard to setting up the stage properties as quick as possible in each scenario. But at the same times during the off time, I watched the Night Witch's performance whilst admiring Florent's performance. Even I was envious where I wanted to join the performance,"

I looked down for a second as I get slightly emotional whilst telling them my experience. Furthermore, I continued.

"However, when the drama story reached the climax part, there's a terror attack in a sudden, where the terror attack crashes the whole drama. The terrorists throwing tons of smoke grenades, locking the whole theater room, and shooting tons of civilians mercilessly.,"

"Simultaneously, I saw Florent fighting back against the terrorist to protect Gina. Unfortunately, he's kept beaten by the terrorists. I wanted to give him a help with my might. But the evacuating crew dragged me away to get out of this place,"

"And in the split second during my evacuation, I saw Florent getting shot in every direction by the terrorist, whilst protecting Gina in the critically wounded condition. Despite the wound, Florent is really desperate to not let anyone touched his sister, even in an inch.,"

"I will never forget that experience. Only if I strong enough to resist, Florent won't end up like this.,"

Everyone nodded in understanding after hearing about my experience with Florent. Suddenly, Joshua asked.

"Is this the why Florent turned into the bad guy?"

"No. Florent primary aim is to find Gina. And he needs powers to pass through the various challenges in front of his eyes easily. Like joining Crescent and get infected by Scorching Virus, for example," I answered.

However, Joshua wasn't satisfied with my answers yet. So he asked again.

"Do you know who's he is under with? And what kind of organization he's coming from?"

"During my fight against him, I saw a red crescent logo in his back coat in a split second," I answered again.

"He's from Crescent?" Axel asked in a surprise.

I flinched when hearing Axel asking this question in a sudden. And then, I answered.

"Of course. It's a terrorist organization created by Ivanov to gathering all oppressed infected into rebelling against those whose ever oppressed them. And Onigashi is the current leader of that organization,"

"Onigashi?! She's the leader of that organization?!" Axel asked again in a surprise.

"Yes," I answered whilst nodded.

"Where do you get that information from?" Joshua asked.

"Sergeant Adipati," I answered, straightforwardly.

"Oh… I see…" Joshua replied whilst nodding.

After a few seconds of silence, I've got a call from Operator Vladimir through my comms channel in a sudden.

"Wait, I got a call from Operator Vladimir?" I asked to myself.

Without further ado, I answered the call and said.

"This is Tsuyuki, the leader of the Black Vulture squadron. What's wrong, Vladimir?"

And then, Vladimir replied.

"Hey, Tsuyuki! I've heard you and your friends have accomplished the mission that Commander Katoki and Darrell provided you.,"

"So what's with that?" I asked back.

"We're going to take you home. The ride will arrive in just 3 minutes," Vladimir answered, straightforwardly.

I felt relieved after Vladimir told me that the ride back home will arrive soon. But concurrently, I felt worried that Scott's condition is at the critical level, where his infection rate is worsening.

"Then what about the medical teams? Scott is unconscious because his infection rate is getting worse," I said to Vladimir.

However, he replied casually.

"It's alright. The medical teams will arrive together with your ride home. And the medical teams will take care of Scott instead.,"

"Ok, I'll see you back on the HQ.,"

"Copy that. Take care out there, Tsuyuki!"

"You too,"

After that, I hung up the call. And then Joshua approached me and asked.

"What does Vladimir tell you?"

"He said that the ride home will arrive in just 3 minutes. And the medical teams will arrive together," I answered.

"Ok… I see…" He replied whilst nodding in understanding.

Then, Axel laying down on the wall, and said in relief.

"I'm just glad it's finally over,"

"Yeah. Except this idiot who's stupidly charging into that Florent guy and gets infected," Veronica replied sardonically whilst taking care Scott.

"By the way, I'm starving now. What are we going to eat soon?" Said Christine.

"I'm going to make tonkotsu ramen," I replied confidently.

"Wait, you can cook?" Axel asked, slightly shocked.

"Well, I'm often working on the cafeteria kitchen on making the dinner at evening," I answered, straightforwardly.

"Ok, I can't wait to taste how his foods taste like," Said Veronica.

When I'm chit chatting with my friends. All of us got a call from our ride home through our comms channel in a sudden.

"*Bzzzt* this is Holygrail-1 reporting to the Black Vulture and the Red Cheetah squadron!"

Afterwards, Joshua replied.

"This is Joshua, the leader of Red Cheetah,"

And then, the pilot added.

"We have arrived at the front entrance of the abandoned sugar factory. Hurry and get out from this place, before those Infectoids stabbing your backs,"

"Copy that, we're on it!"

After Joshua hung up the call. I asked to everyone whilst about to carry Scott.

"By the way, who's going to helping me in carrying Scott?"

And then Axel stood up, and helping me in carrying Scott.

"Alright let's get back to the business!" Said Axel whilst carrying Scott's legs.

Furthermore Me, Joshua, and Axel carrying Scott. While Veronica and Christine carrying his Greatsword. However, the three of us struggling while carrying Scott from how heavy his body is. Despite that, we have to keep carrying him to the front entrance.

"Oh, my god! His weapon is heavy!" Said Christine while struggling to carry Scott's Greatsword.

"Yeah… just be careful with it," Joshua added while resisting the deadweight that's weighed his hands.

Despite how deadweight Scott is, the three of us keep carrying Scott into the front entrance. And met up with our ride home and the medical teams.

1730 hours, 25 June 0145…

We have gotten out of this abandoned sugar factory through the front entrance, whilst carrying Scott together. The sunset sun shone through the distant mountain, as the sign the rain has stopped. I gaze upon the sunset for a second and admiring the beauty of it. Until, someone in the distant called me in a sudden.

"Hey, it's the Black Vulture and the Red Cheetah!"

I looking in front of me and saw several medical teams approaching us whilst carrying the stretcher. While the Osprey is waiting in front of us.

"Good to see you guys have come back in one piece!"

"Of course. Except this dumbass,"

"We'll take care of them!"

Afterwards, we put Scott down on the medical team's stretcher. After that, the medical teams lifting Scott from their stretcher and carrying it into the Osprey cargo in front of us.

When all of us sat inside the Osprey cargo, I saw Scott opened his eyes slowly, as he's regained his consciousness back.

"Huh… what… just happened?" Scott asked, stuttering while looking around him.

"Ah… this idiot has woken up.," Said Joshua whilst looking at conscious Scott.

"What… are you talking about?" Scott asked again as his consciousness returned to normal.

When the Osprey has taken off from the ground and take us back to the HQ, Veronica approached Scott's face with a threatening glare.

"You have violated the rules of the mission: Never leave your teammate behind.," Said Veronica whilst poking Scott's chest.

"But… didn't Tsuyuki do the same thing?" Scott asked, confusedly.

"Unlike him, you're ended up like shit," Veronica replied, sardonically.

"What?! Come on, give me some break!" Said Scott in frustration.

And everyone inside this Osprey laughed at each other as a refreshment. It was relieving yet confusing at the same time. Because Florent is might be the only person who recognized Onigashi very well. And I could ask him about Onigashi whenever I've met him and engaged in a battle against him, someday.

And this is the end of this journey. Because someday, I'm about to facing another upcoming challenge that I have to pass. And I must face lots of upcoming challenges in front of me, just to find the truth about Onigashi and Crescent.
