Holy Era 6102, Month of the Moon Rabbit, 17th day.
Weather: Rain
It is raining today. The wind is strong, and it is like a mild storm.
I do not want to go to work… However, I must go on… Because I need money.
When I went to the Adventurers Guild, it was crowded with so many people.
It seemed that due to the rain, they were not going out on quests, and instead decided to kill time at the bar inside of the building… Drinking during the day… These Adventurers should be working.
And so I watched them from the corner of my eye as I accepted the day’s quest.
The lady at the counter was very surprised, but I wish she wouldn’t be. I have to work in order to make money…
We bottom of the barrel Adventurers do not have the option of resting just because there is a little rain!!
This time as well, I chose a herb gathering quest. Please don’t do anything reckless!! The lady pleaded, but it was just the usual quest. It’s my third time…she was such a worrywart.
However, I understood the meaning of her words once I arrived at my destination.
The usually calmly flowing river had grown wide due to the rain, and the gentle flow had turned into a violent and muddy torrent. If I fell in, it would be the end of my life…
And so I changed hunting grounds and headed to a marshy area that was a short distance from the river. However, an incident awaited me there as well.
I found the clusters of momija grass immediately. However, an unexpected hindrance was sitting there.
It was the size of a bull, had a body that was slimy and glowed with brown patterns. And from its head were two eyes that extended out like horns… It was the worst. I had encountered a King Nameku.
Not only was it very disgusting to behold, but even one of them was enough to destroy an area of momija grass!!
I had no choice. And so with slightly teary eyes, I charged into the King Nameku.
(At least, it was a designated monster, so I would receive a reward for hunting it. But I would have rather not gone against it…)
As it’s movements were slow, they were easy to deal with. However, every time I cut into it, my sword would get covered in slushy fluid, and it would slip out of my hands if I didn’t hold it tightly.
While I somehow managed to defeat it, due to the battle, half of the momija grass in the area was ruined.
By the time I had gathered the surviving momija grass and dragged the King Nameku corpse back to the guild, the rain had stopped and the western sky had turned a crimson color.
They were very surprised when I reported the completion of the quest. And I was surprised as well. The reward for killing the King Nameku…what? Isn’t that too high!?
Apparently, there was a demand for them, as their materials were used for medicine. But they only appeared when it rained and near flooded rivers where it was dangerous. But more than anything, they looked disgusting, so not many people wanted to hunt them… That did make sense.
After that, I went to a public bathhouse and washed my body. While the filth was horrible, I had already felt quite itchy all over since this morning.
…Yesterday’s cheap inn really was bad in every way… They should go out of business.
Since I had made some extra money today, I stayed in a slightly expensive inn.
The room is clean, the bed soft and fluffy, the food is, well, it gets a passing mark.
And so I would not mind making it my base of operations once my income is stable.
Now, I should sleep in preparation for tomorrow. Good night.
