Chapter 1: Prologue

Ghouls.

Neither innately evil, nor innately good.

Composed of human bodies they can change at will, being able to change to the form of snakes, scorpions, lizards, etc. The only thing that separates them from humans are their horns, wings and tails. Some may be missing one or two features.

They might engage in sexual affairs with humans to produce an offspring.

If you did something to hurt them, usually, they will seek out revenge and chase you to the ends of earth. Ghouls like to interfere with humans and often try to mess them up. But there are some ghouls with a docile behavior that's locked up in their societies, structured as tribes.

Some ghouls make contract with humans. They are often called for protection or aid, usually under the leadership of a king. Many people wear amulets to protect themselves against the assaults of ghouls, sent by witches and sorcerers. The good condemns the practice of worshipping ghouls or seeking protection in them, as they could bring misfortune upon them.

The existence of ghouls dates back to centuries ago, by the death of a just king, Lucan. What began after Lucan's death was the people under his rule, the people of Eanthal lost guidance and corruption and evil was increasing rapidly and spreading. Due to the negative emotions the people are emitting, it all began to gather and formed a new lifeform, the ghouls. The formed ghoul would later be known as the dreaded Demon Lord.

Lucan's children couldn't bear seeing the people falling prey to their desires, so the eldest son, Arthur preached to the people. However, seeing as his attempts isn't working, he called for holy war against the corrupt.

Arthur gathered an army of men and battled the transgressors. Nonetheless, he didn't expect that the ghouls would aid them in battle. At first, they didn't know what to do when something unusual helped them, but with his quick and strategic thinking he managed to adapt and overcome the situation. Arthur's army emerged victorious in the holy war.

But the ghouls were still producing without stop. Arthur, being crowned as the new king after the war was confused and distressed at the existence of ghouls. They seem to be producing faster after the war, contrary to Arthur's belief. Arthur figured out that the ghouls are something created from man, as they resembled the corrupt people of Eanthal. He thought if he removed something from the root source it'd eventually stop.

However, the ones after the war seems different. They seem... more human. They were stronger and resembles more of a human than before. Seeing as the ghouls are growing stronger, Arthur went to exterminate every last one of them. But it turns out that the ghouls weren't alone. They had humans blending in with them. Arthur didn't know if they voluntarily went in or got tricked to joining the ghouls.

While attacking the ghoul's base, he tried to not slay the humans because of the possibility that they may be controlled by the ghouls. But he would never find out if they are. Arthur fell because of an unprecedented figure. He thought that only the Demon King could overpower him. But he was wrong. There was another creature. Something feared and powerful. 

They called this creature...

The Dragon King.
