"Happy birthday dear Ashton… Happy birthday to you…" Everyone sang together while clapping their hands. The little boy in Daniel's arms didn't understand a thing but seeing people around him with smiles on their faces, food on the table, and even hearing his name, Ash also showed his four front baby teeth making him look even more adorable.
Samantha and Daniel gave him kisses on each cheek and took a picture for keepsake. "Thank you all for coming. It means so much to us that you are all present here with us for Ashy's birthday," Samantha said.
"Yeah, he won't be able to remember any of this but… we all will." Daniel added with a chuckle. "Now, I'd also like to give a toast…"
"To my son, of course… who's going to be my weapon to keep rats away from chasing after the love of my life." He winked at Samantha and everyone guffawed at his remark.
"To Samantha who never fails to shine with her golden heart. You never cease to amaze me, darling. I can't wait to finally tie the knot with you… again." He kissed her on the lips and another bout of cheer, claps and wuhoos were heard.
But his kiss lasted only for a second when Ashton pushed his face away from Samantha's as if he was protesting: 'This is my mommy. Don't eat her face.'
Daniel could only chuckle at his son and gave him a kiss as well.
"To our parents, for always being very supportive of us. And of course, to our families and friends, for always being there whenever we need you." Raising his glass of wine, he said in a firm voice, "Cheers."
"Cheers." Everyone followed suit.
Dinner was splendid. Especially since Sean and his chefs helped with the preparation of food. The atmosphere in the cliffside villa was very joyous and relaxing. Everyone enjoyed the food, the drinks, and the conversations that they had that night. It was definitely a great day.
…
Later that evening, Hannah headed to the toilet wanting to relieve herself. She pushed the door open and was startled to see Assistants Ahn and Chen making out. "Holy sh-" she cursed, making the Ahn and Chen pale. "Heh — you should lock…" Hannah shut the door and she turned around only to bump into Samantha in the hallway.
"OMG!" Hannah's mouth formed into an 'O'. She dragged Samantha away from there while telling her about what she had just seen inside.
"Finally! It took them a long time hook up!" Samantha giggled as they climbed up the stairs and went to the common bathroom. She and Hannah made funny comments about how they both knew that the two assistants were going to end up together one day.
Feeling the urge to pee, Hannah quickly pushed the door to the bathroom open and was once again startled to see someone inside. "Jeez! Don't people lock anymore?!" she spat without thinking before she realized that it was Becca. "Wait, Becca?"
Seeing Becca sit on the floor with her head lowered, Samantha walked in the bathroom, "Becs? Are you okay?"
Becca scrambled to get up from the floor and the other two helped her. She went to the sink and washed her hands without saying anything but Samantha peeked and saw her red eyes. "Have you been crying?" Samantha placed her hand on her shoulder to make Becca face her.
Sensing the vibe in the bathroom, Hannah closed the door and locked it. "What's wrong?" she asked as she walked closer.
Becca wiped another tear that just fell down and she sniffed, unsure of how she was going to tell her friends about what was happening to her.
Looking at her, Samantha felt that it had been troubling her for a while. Becca always looked happy anytime but she didn't look like herself at that time. Worried, Samantha stroked her back, "Becs… does this have anything to do with Liam?"
Hannah waited for Becca to answer but she remained quiet. "Are you two not okay yet?" she probed.
Becca shook her head and sucked in air before she started, "That's the thing… I don't know how we're still okay."
"What do you mean?" Samantha questioned.
Becca looked at Samantha and Hannah when she decided to tell them. "I've been feeling very guilty lately. Liam has been amazing and good to me all this time. He is even willing to sacrifice his happiness and told me he was okay not having kids if I didn't want to." She sobbed and tears began to stream again. "I don't deserve him. I can't make him do that for me. I feel horrible."
Hannah and Samantha felt their heart being crushed to hear those words from their friend. Even Samantha who mostly had something to say in situations like this didn't know how to comfort her friend. So she could only stroke Becca's arm, "I'm sorry that you're feeling like this…"
"That's not the worse part." Becca looked at Samantha in the eye and with trembling lips, she spoke, "I think I'm pregnant."
As soon as she said those words, lightning and thunder struck followed by heavy rain.
Samantha and Hannah looked at each other, they were even more puzzled on how they were going to help their friend Becca — who didn't want to have kids, whose boyfriend Liam was willing to sacrifice for her and lastly, who was possibly pregnant.
Becca's shoulders shook when she broke down and whimpered, "I don't know what to do."
