Work Hard Together (1)

The students messily ran back to their seats, but they still sneakily glanced toward the back.

Old Jian was standing at the podium, and his face didn’t look good. “Has every one of you gone feral because of the summer break?”

He raised the class selection forms in his hand. “We asked you to come back a day earlier to let you fill in this.  Have you guys thought carefully about it? All you guys do is fight or watch  fights!”

A group of boys let out an “oh,” and one by one shouted, “Teacher, we’re waiting for you to explain. We didn’t dare to fill it out blindly.”

Bai Jing furtively shot a glance backward.

Hell, it was obviously Liu Jun and a few others that surrounded Ruan Qingmu to beat him up just now. However, why did he somehow have an illusion that Ruan Qingmu didn’t seem to suffer any loss?

“Hey –” He tapped his best friend in front of him. “Just now, did you see it was Liu Jun and the others who hit Ruan Qingmu?”

That boy secretly turned his head. “Otherwise?”

Bai Jing didn’t feel confident. “I feel that Ruan Qingmu was the one who beat them. Do you think my vision is bad?”

“Your vision isn’t bad.”

“Right? Do you also feel that something is wrong?”

His best friend sighed, “You’re blind.”

Old Jian held a cup of cold water in his chubby hand and sighed, “Alright, I’ll explain; listen carefully. Afterward, you guys fill it in carefully.

Experimental No.3 High School received a notice from the Education Bureau this year. Ten high schools in this city had been chosen to carry out a pilot test of a class-based education reform.

The Experimental No.3 High School’s leader didn’t dare to neglect the task. They combined other schools and provinces’ experiences, and finally decided to implement a small run of classes.

The three major courses, Chinese, math, and English would still be done in the same class. The remaining secondary subjects would be carried out in the shifting class system. Liberal arts and science classes would be divided into three classes placements.

The content taught in the competition class was the most difficult, and the content was oriented toward competition. It served to help some top students win prizes, strive for additional points for the college entrance examination, or as a recommendation.

The Advanced class progress came in second place, which was faster than the regular class and more difficult. It served as a convoy for students who excelled in a single subject.

The remaining class was called the standard class. As the name implied, it pushed regular students to prepare for the college entrance examination. Its main target was the majority of regular class students.

The administrative classes remained unchanged, keeping the same class members. But the additional classes in the evening would be formed by students from different classes.

Students were allowed to switch classes. After some time, they could apply to change the shift class according to their level of performance.

For example, if their physics improved, they could move from the Standard class to the Advanced class or even the Competition class; if they did less well in chemistry and couldn’t keep up with the class, they could change to have chemistry in the standard class.

After making the teachers, classes, and progress optional, they would have accomplished ‘teaching students according to their aptitude.’ There was no need to force every student to be in the same classes and follow along to the same subject’s pace. Its benefit was self-evident.

Of course, there would be some systematic problems in actual practice.

For example, the management would be chaotic. The administrative class in the morning and shifting classes in the evening had different students. It would be inconvenient to do roll calls for attendance.

Old Jian drank a mouthful of water. “I suggest you guys not choose the competition class. However, if you have confidence in a single subject, you can consider applying for a single subject advanced class.”

A boy in the front row raised his hand, “Teacher, are there many quotas in the advanced class?”

Old Jian’s gaze was very kind, “Rest assured. Just take this trial to encourage everyone to obtain better learning in a single subject. There is no limit in the competition and advanced classes. No need to underestimate yourself, be a little brave!”

The day was hot, but his voice was still loud and clear after talking so much for a while. “Hundred-foot pole, progress still further1! If you don’t fight for now, when will you wait!”

Listening to his passionate speech, the students below were still listlessly mumbling.

After all, their Class 9 was ranked at the bottom of the entire grade. The liberal arts and sciences classes were divided into another shifting class with a few top students. It looked like their ranking would go even lower soon.

“You don’t need to fill it out in a hurry. Just hand it in before the end of school today.” Old Jian continued, “Tomorrow is the school opening mock exam. Everyone should prepare themselves. The results of this mock exam will also be considered when assigning the shifting class.”
