Qin Yuan’s slender fingers paused at that peach blossom profile picture and moved away after a long time.
He searched for Fu Songhua’s name, typed a string of words, and sent it. “Have you seen the ghost?”
Before long, Fu Songhua replied with a voice message. When he opened it to listen, it was full of resentment. “There’s nothing! We went to the dance room and circled it once. It wasn’t even locked and anyone could get in. I think it’s some on-duty teacher’s kid playing inside.”
In the background, some boys from their dormitory agreed along with him. “That’s right. The people from Class 3 are a bunch of big fools. They’re only scaring themselves.”
Qin Yuan paused for a while. He then typed a string of words. “Do you have an extra ballpoint pen laying around? Please lend one to me.”
Fu Songhua’s voice message quickly came. “Ah? Boss, don’t you use a fountain pen?”
Qin Yuan pursed his lips. “Uh, I ran out of ink. I’ll head up to look for you.”
Without waiting for Fu Songhua’s reply, he stood up, pushed open the door, and walked out of his room.
Just as he went up the stairs to the third floor, he directly bumped into someone at the corner.
Ruan Qingmu blankly halted in his steps and looked at Qin Yuan, who was going up the stairs at this moment. He seemed extremely surprised to see him. “Er, are you going up?”
Qin Yuan stood there. Since he was caught off guard, his handsome face was even more expressionless than usual. “Ah… yes. I’m looking for Fu Songhua so that I can borrow a pen from him.”
“Oh.” Ruan Qingmu scratched his head and stopped at the head of the stairs, not moving.
Qin Yuan looked at Ruan Qingmu, his gaze landing on the several rolls of paper in his hand. “How about you? Are you going out?”
Ruan Qingmu hesitated for a while. “Yes, ah. I’m… going to buy some toothpaste.”
The two boys stood on the stairs for a moment as if neither wanted to move out of the way. But eventually, they side-stepped together and were suddenly in each other’s path again.
Ruan Qingmu slowly descended the stairs and walked out the door. He stayed outside in the night air for a moment before suddenly kicking the step next to him in frustration.
Damn! What kind of rubbish was that saying he needed to go out to buy some toothpaste? Would he die if he openly said, “It was extremely noisy upstairs and I wanted to study at your place?”
On the fourth floor, in Fu Songhua’s dorm, Qin Yuan absent-mindedly sat while he looked through his homework, occasionally glancing at the open doorway.
He suddenly stood up and walked outside by himself.
Fu Songhua took a disposable water cup and simply poured him a glass of water. When he turned his head, he saw the boss figure out of the door and couldn’t help but shout at him, “Boss, what are you doing?”
The 418 dorm door was pushed open.
Bai Jing and the others raised their heads, feeling a bit dumbfounded. They looked at the vice president of the disciplinary department in disbelief. “???”
What was this? Was the boss here for a sudden hygiene inspection?
With a straight back and upright posture, Boss Qin swiftly glanced around the room before hesitatingly speaking. “Do you guys want to play cards?”
The hell! The boss student, who lacked entertainment, had been dragged into the water and was addicted to the pleasure of playing cards, opening the door to a new world!
“Play, play, play! Boss, please sit down. We will gather four people to accompany you!” Bai Jing with trepidation on his part sat down in his chair.
Qin Yuan stood there, but he didn’t come in. “Oh, I’ll wait for my partner last time. There’s no need to rush.”
Bai Jing and his roommates stopped moving, looked at each other, and mustered up the courage together. “Boss, it’s not that we don’t want to give you face. But we won’t be able to live if you partner up with Ruan Qingmu again, okay?”
Whatever! He wasn’t there anyways.
Ruan Qingmu sat down on the steps outside, looking at the boys coming and going.
He raised his head and looked at the rows of windows on the first floor. The one at 106 was still dark.
Was that person still on the fourth floor? Why did he take so long to borrow a pen? Was he going downstairs or not?
Upstairs inside 418, the card game was still going on.
Bai Jing and his roommate partner howled with laughter as they threw the last two cards. “Look, I just knew that last time was a mishap. It’s our turn to kill everything this time, isn’t it?”
Fu Songhua partnered up with Qin Yuan and they lost two games which made him angry. “Huhu, class monitor, where is our tacit understanding on the sports ground? Why are you continuously unable to meet my cards? Where is the probability you counted last time?”
Qin Yuan absent-mindedly dropped the remaining cards. “Um, I can’t.”
Fu Songhua: “…”
Why was he suddenly unable to do it anymore?!
Qin Yuan lightly glanced at that specific empty bed and suddenly stood up. “It’s already late. You guys can continue. I will return to the first floor.”
Downstairs, Ruan Qingmu raised his head and looked at the rows of windows on the first floor. The one at 106 was still dark.
In other words, was that person still on the fourth floor?
The more he waited, the more anxious he became. He suddenly clenched his teeth and broke into a run upstairs. Just as he was running up the stairs to the second floor, he directly bumped into someone at the corner again.
Fuck… it was Qin Yuan again.
Ruan Qingmu clenched his teeth. “I take it, you’ve borrowed a pen then?”
Qin Yuan looked over at him from above with a sort of strange expression on his face. After a long time, he finally replied, “Mm, I’ve borrowed it.”
His gaze stopped at Ruan Qingmu’s hand. “You didn’t get to buy the toothpaste?”
Ruan Qingmu was stunned and looked down at the papers in his hands, suddenly realizing something. “Ah, yes. It’s sold out in the convenience store. Hehe… can you believe it? Such a small rubbish store, they didn’t even have toothpaste.”
Qin Yuan nodded his head. The two people stood on the stairway for a long moment before finally silently nodding and brushing past each other again.
