The school infirmary was quite busy as lots of people sprained their ankles, grazed their skins, or tripped and fell during these past two days.
The school infirmary’s Dr. Gong was in his twenties and had only been there for just a few years.
He was a tall, lean, single-lidded man with a pair of gold-rimmed glasses and a face as cold as ice as if everyone around him owed him a few hundred dollars. He swiftly gave a simple diagnostic treatment to each of the queueing students.
“I will prescribe medicine for you. Apply it on yourself during the national holiday these next few days.”
“You came here with a scratch and even wanted to ask for sick leave? Are you dreaming?”
“I can’t treat your injury at this time. If the pain increases tomorrow, go to the hospital and get yourself treated there. Remember, ah. if you delay it, you can turn into a cripple, don’t blame me for not warning you ahead of time.”
The boys who came to treat their injuries didn’t dare to breathe too loud. They obediently nodded their heads and came out after the short doctor’s visit.
Dr. Gong raised his head and looked at the two boys standing in the doorway, raising his eyebrows. “Is it that serious?”
A boy with a white complexion stood at the door with a boy taller than him on his back.
The boy being carried was a little red in the face. He hurried to come down and jumped over. “It’s not that serious… only a sprained ankle.”
Dr. Gong let out an “oh.” “So precious? Even being carried here?”
The boy who followed him drew in a deep breath. “Doctor, please take a serious look. I’m afraid it’s not as simple as being sprained. Maybe there’s a muscle strain, ligament tear, or articular injury…”
Dr. Gong held his arms and dropped his thin single eyelids. “You’re so amazing. Are you preparing to study medicine?”
Ruan Qingmu patiently shut his mouth. “…”
Damn. This little doctor didn’t have any bedside manners!
When Dr. Gong saw that he had shut his mouth, he patted the examination bed with satisfaction. “Sit here.”
Qin Yuan sat up and Dr. Gong began to examine him for a while carefully. Then, he asked for more details on how he felt and probed his ankle a few times. “There should be no big problem. It’s only a sprain.”
He turned around and took out an ice bag that had already been prepared from the freezer and swiftly placed it on Qin Yuan’s ankle. “You have to apply a cold compress on it for now. Bear with it for a while, ah.”
The ice bag was bone-chilling, making Qin Yuan suddenly frown and Ruan Qingmu immediately rushed over. “How is it? Does it hurt?”
Qin Yuan clenched his teeth tightly. “No.”
Ruan Qingmu unhappily said, “Hey, comrade doctor. Is it okay to apply an ice pack to it so soon? Shouldn’t we apply some medicated oil or medicine for blood stasis?”
There wasn’t any advanced thing like a freezer in his previous life and no way to quickly find ice. They would usually smear some medicated oil and herbs for similar injuries such as contusions, sprains, or fractures, which proved to be most helpful. Why did it change into a bag of ice now?
Dr. Gong stood up, his pair of dark-brown eyes carrying ridicule. “Aiyo, young man, are you medically trained in the Jianghu Chinese school?”
Ruan Qingmu glared at him. … I’ll endure it for now.
Dr. Gong sneered and pointed at him from across the air. “Listen well. Here is my one-third of an acre*. I’ll give you, ADHD children, some popular science lessons.”
*T/N: Personal sphere of influence (Dr. Gong is indicating that this is his territory of knowledge.)
“First, you should quickly apply a cold compress when something like a sprain happens during exercise. You can’t use a hot compress unless you want to cause harm to him, understand? Secondly, you’re not allowed to blindly apply safflower oil or Yunnan Baiyao. It’s too early to activate the blood circulation. It will accelerate the bruises’ expansion and aggravate the edema. Don’t listen to that foolish bullshit from the Jianghu physician.”
Ruan Qingmu pursed his lip and resisted the urge to beat people.
“Thirdly, stop every movement. Rest, then rest again.” Dr. Gong looked at Ruan Qingmu. “For this, you guys have done the right thing. It’s good that you carried him here.”
He turned around, sat down, and wrote several ghost talisman-like lines for Qin Yuan’s prescription before taking out a bottle of medicated oil from the cabinet. “After applying a cold compress, see if it’s not swollen anymore before applying a hot compress for the next 24 hours. At the same time, massage it with this to help disperse the bruise, understand?”
Ruan Qingmu’s brows twitched, reaching out to take it. “Doctor, can you write him a leave note? The one where he doesn’t need to attend PE class.”
Dr. Gong waved his hand and didn’t make it too difficult for them, writing Qin Yuan a leave note. He had just finished writing the note when his phone that was on the table rang.
He looked at it and pressed to answer the call with a slightly gloomy expression. “What? I’ll block you if you call again.”
There was a male voice from the other end of the line. Dr. Gong listened to what he said and then snorted. “Fine, we’ll talk when we meet. I’ll see what kind of flower* you can say.”
*T/N: 花 (flower) has the same pronunciation with 话 (words). Here, the 花 has another meaning which is lecherous or lustful.
He angrily threw his phone and stood up, starting to take off his white coat.
When the white coat was taken off, an outrageous bright silver T-shirt was revealed beneath it with ripped jeans. He waved his hand at the two boys. “I’ll go out to eat now. You guys can stay here to finish the cold compress before leaving.”
He pointed his finger at Ruan Qingmu. “You, re-apply a new one for him from the freezer after the ice bag warms up later. Oh right, don’t you guys have a good relationship? Continue carrying him back!”
Ruan Qingmu’s face flushed a deep red. “…”
Dr. Gong walked to the sink, unhurriedly washing his hand for several minutes. “Lock my doors after you guys finish, ah.”
Ruan Qingmu stared hard as he walked out of the door before sitting beside the examination bed. “What kind of rotten quack doctor is this…”
Before he finished speaking, Qin Yuan, who lay opposite the door, swiftly blinked several times.
