In less than two days, someone from Feng Yan Union came by. This time it was an official visit to Fu Chengyu’s residence. After the servants reported the person’s arrival, a middle-aged man who was so obese that it made one uncomfortable to directly look him in the eye requested to meet Ling Chuxi.
It was the middle of winter, but he was covered in sweat and panted after every few steps. When he sat on a chair, it creaked beneath his heft. He dug out his brocade handkerchief to wipe the sweat off his forehead before violently drinking a mouthful of the tea served to him. Only then did he look at Ling Chuxi and began speaking, “Miss Ling Chuxi. It’s nice to meet you. I am the person in charge of Feng Yan Union’s Nan Xia Country branch, Jin Buhuan.”
“Ah, it’s nice to meet you too.” Ling Chuxi looked at the bulk of a man in front of her and worried if the chair would be able to withstand his weight. She was anxious that the chair might dismantle at any time.
Fu Chengyu was stunned when he heard the man reporting his identity. He never thought that the person in charge of the Feng Yan Union branch in Nan Xia Country would come in person. This was someone who held a very high position in Feng Yan Union and therefore should be an important person in its Nan Xia Country branch. For him to actually personally make an appearance… What exactly did Ling Chuxi ask them to find out about?
“Miss Ling Chuxi, I am very sorry to have to tell you that we are unable to execute the task that you entrusted to us.” Jin Buhuan used his brocade handkerchief to wipe his forehead which was covered in sweat once again and continued speaking with a little embarrassment creeping into his tone, “We are really sorry about this.”
Jin Buhuan’s words left Ling Chuxi stunned. And Fu Chengyu, even more stunned. Nobody would have thought that Jin Buhuan would actually have uttered such words.
“But, why? Isn’t Feng Yan Union famous for being able to find any information as long as the price is right?” asked Fu Chengyu in a serious tone with a frown. He had never heard of any piece of information that was unable to be obtained by Feng Yan Union.
“Ninth Prince, this—” Jin Buhuan wiped the sweat off his forehead which seemed to constantly be reappearing as he smiled awkwardly. “To be more accurate about this matter—the information Miss Ling Chuxi wants us to obtain is indeed something we can obtain. However, the price of doing so is not one that we can afford. Nor is it one that Miss Ling Chuxi can afford either.”
“What exactly is this price that the Feng Yan Union is unable to afford?” questioned Fu Chengyu as his frown deepened.
“Even if our entire organization was destroyed and annihilated, the Feng Yan Union is not necessarily able to obtain completely accurate information on the matter Miss Ling Chuxi wishes to find out about. Tell me then, Ninth Prince—if it were you, would you agree to such a transaction?” Jin Buhuan kept his smile away as his face turned solemn.
Fu Chengyu looked at the solemn expression upon Jin Buhuan’s face in astonishment. Jin Buhuan’s gaze was extremely serious and he did not look like he was joking in the least. Nor was he trying to shirk away from his duties! Which begs the question… What exactly was the information Ling Chuxi wish to obtain? Ling Yichen also looked at Ling Chuxi in surprise. In his heart, he also had the same question as Fu Chengyu did.
Ling Chuxi was so shocked that she could not possibly be any more shocked. However, she became doubtful. Feng Yan Union had actually gave her such a reply when she had merely wished to obtain some information about her own parents and Ling Wushang. For Feng Yan Union to actually say that even if they were totally destroyed, they would still not necessarily be able to obtain accurate information on such a matter… What did this mean?
“Boss Jin, is this some kind of mistake? I remember my Aunt Wang told me that my mother—” began Ling Chuxi with a frown, but before she could finish, she was interrupted by Jin Buhuan.
“Miss Ling Chuxi, sometimes the truth that you assume to be your reality, isn’t. This is all I can say regarding your request. Feng Yan Union has never rejected any transactions before, but today, we have to reject your transaction. As compensation, you may obtain any other piece of information from us for free as long as it is within our abilities to procure it for you,” said Jin Buhuan as he put on a formal smile and wiped the sweat off his broad forehead once again.
