As death approached rapidly, both the gazes of Ling Chuxi and Ling Yichen did not show the slightest bit of hesitation nor the desire to retreat.
A loud rumbling sound rang out, it was as if the shocking thunder of the Nine Heavens were crashing down from the sky. The sound cut through the clouds and shocked everyone who heard it into terror.
At the same time, the suppression on Ling Chuxi and Ling Yichen lifted. Even though the strong qi flow was still moving before their eyes, the air around them was being twisted so that everything appeared to be part of an illusion, giving off the feeling as if one was in a dream.
“What happened?” If it were not for the fact that she could still feel the Battle Qi in her meridians moving, Ling Chuxi would have almost mistakenly thought she had somehow arrived in an another world.
Shortly after, the agitated flowing qi calmed down and everything before their eyes solidified into reality again. Yet, for Ling Chuxi and Ling Yichen who had barely managed to steal their lives back from the jaws of death, they still felt as if they were in a dream.
An old man dressed in coarse green robes stood before them with his body hunched over and his hands kept hidden in his sleeves. His appearance was no different from any of the old villagers one would commonly see in a village, but his appearance at this scene, at this moment gave off a great and lofty sense that called for respect.
Ghost Shadow retreated a few feet away as he looked at the old man in fear.

There was no doubt that the old man standing before them was the one who had forced Ghost Shadow into retreat and saved the two of them. However, Ling Chuxi truly did not have the least bit of an impression of him when she observed the old man’s ordinary appearance and face full of wrinkles. Was this yet another expert coming to the rescue?! Ling Chuxi suddenly felt that she should look into a mirror. Why so? It was because she wanted to see if her own face was really as big as her reputation seemed to be, so much so that every time she was in danger, an expert would come to her rescue. Or was it to say that the acupuncture point between her brows representing good fortune has been struck so much that it has turned from red to purple even? Because she had bumped into such great luck! Of course, this was only her own joking manner of trying to make sense of things. She understood that this old man was not simple.
Ling Yichen was also stunned. He had thought that things were looking pretty bleak and never thought that someone would actually rescue them. Similarly, he also did not have much of an impression of this old man. His heart, however, did not think of jokey explanations for this turn of events like Ling Chuxi’s. He was very clear that there was definitely a reason as to why this old man had helped them. There was a cause and effect to everything. However, what exactly was this old man’s cause in saving them?
“To even dare to touch the people of the Flowing Clouds Sect, your guts sure aren’t small,” said the old man leisurely as he opened his eyes slightly and swept a glance at Ghost Shadow and the rest of his men. His tone was calm to an extreme. However, it gave of a feeling of oppression that made one’s heart chill.
“Who are you?” asked Ghost Shadow with a frown. His heart sank as he stared at the old man. This old man’s cultivation was powerful, so obviously his background was not ordinary and it could be reckoned that he was also someone from a sect. Once today’s matters were spread, it would become a huge disaster for Cold Moon Palace. The murderous intent in Ghost Shadow arose once again as he secretly threw a few glances at his companions.
“Why? Are you thinking of killing me along with them?” asked the old man without a change of expression as a ray of light suddenly flashed across his eyes. He seemed to have noticed Ghost Shadow’s inner thoughts.
“You’ve got to be kidding.” Seeing the light in the old man’s eyes, Ghost Shadow’s heart trembled and the murderous intent that had just arisen within him was suppressed. He knew that it was practically impossible to kill this old man along with Ling Chuxi and Ling Yichen. The other party was just too strong!
“I don’t know who all of you are, nor do I know what took place earlier. However, the safety of these two juniors has been entrusted to me. Perhaps the few of you are willing to be magnanimous?” continued the old man in a leisurely tone.
The meaning of his words was very obvious. He did not know the true identities of Ghost Shadow and the rest of his men, nor was he interested in participating in the matters between Cold Moon Palace and Flowing Clouds Sect, meaning he could act as though he didn’t know a thing about today’s matters.
Ghost Shadow and the rest understood the meaning behind his words and found themselves caught in a tight spot. They looked at each other, unable to make a decision.
