Content warning: this chapter depict’s Sapphiras’ life in the Perfectio family and how cruel his family was to him. You may want to prepare some tissues.

Sapphiras Perfectio, second son of the Earl of Aldridge. That’s me.

The Perfectio family is a family of outstanding magicians, there is no one in the Kingdom of Solmontana that doesn’t know of them.

The first generation Perfectio, who used magic to defeat the hordes of demons that once attacked the kingdom, was given the title of Earl Aldridge by the king, and since then, the Perfectio family has served the king as excellent magicians for generations.

The children of the Perfectio family were therefore always required to have talent as magicians.

Most of the nobles in the country have magical powers, although they vary from person to person, and at the age of five they undergo a magic appraisal in the temple. When a person with magical power touches the crystal, the crystal glows in response to their magical power.

My older brother, who is two years older than me, had already distinguished himself as an excellent magician, and naturally they had high expectations for me and my younger brother.

On my fifth birthday, my mother and father took me to the temple. In the white temple dedicated to the goddess Fortina, the only god in this world, two priests stood with a crystal between them.

“Now, Sapphiras. Touch the crystal.”

My father pushes my back.

If I am a Perfectio, it is only natural that the crystal will glow. So this ritual of magic appraisal is only a formality. It is a rite of passage that everyone goes through.

I touch the crystal without hesitation. Of course, I had thought that the crystal was supposed to glow until that moment.

“?!”

However, no matter how much I touched it, the crystal did not glow at all.

No matter how many times I touched it again and again, no change occurred in the crystal.

“What the hell does this mean!”

My father’s shouts echoed through the temple. Startled, I cowered involuntarily.

He was a strict father, but he never raised his voice like this.

“……Lord Aldridge, I’m very sorry to tell you, but your son has no magical powers.”

“Wha, what did you say?”

Mother screams.

After hearing the priest’s words, my father grabbed me roughly by the arm and left the temple.

In the carriage on the way back, no one spoke a word and the atmosphere was heavy. My mother looked very pale and looked as if she was about to collapse at any moment.

The crystal did not glow when I touched it. The fact that the crystal did not glow means that I have no magical power. I was born into a family of magicians, but I have no magical power.

But even if you don’t have magic, you can compensate for your lack of magic by doing other things. That’s what I thought when I was only five years old. There are plenty of people in the city who don’t have magical power.

However, in this house, those without magical power don’t even deserve to exist. I soon became acutely aware of this.

When I returned to the mansion, my father told me not to leave my room, and I did as he told me and quietly stayed in my room.

When it was time for dinner, a maid brought the meal to my room. Normally, the family would have dinner together. For some reason, I was the only one who ate in my room.

After that day, my life changed completely. I was completely excluded from the family circle.

I was told not to leave my room until I was called, and I was no longer allowed to attend tea parties and parties that I had previously attended with other members of my family. At first I didn’t understand why. But my older brother’s attitude made me realise why.

“Do you know what it means to have no magic in this Perfectio family? It really pisses me off to think that this disgrace is my brother.”

My older brother looks at me with disdain. I can tell that my family is ashamed of me.

But it’s not my fault that I was born without magic. It’s something I can’t do anything about. Isolated in the house, the only one who spoke to me was my younger brother Aquila, who is two years younger than me. Aquila, who is only three years old, probably doesn’t understand anything. He still calls out to me as usual, ‘big brother1‘. But when my mother saw Aquila calling out to me, she hurriedly picked him up and took him away from me.

My mother never called out to me either. Even when we met, she looked away and pretended not to notice me. I felt as if my heart was being crushed.

I was no longer the son of this family because I had no magical power.

Two years later. When a magic test showed that my brother Aquila had magical powers, I was moved to an old storage-like detached house. I was forbidden to leave the house, had no servants and only one meal a day was brought to me. I was no longer allowed to interact with any of my family, but that was a good thing for me. I no longer have to endure those contemptuous stares. The heaviness in my chest became lighter.

I spent the whole day in the detached house reading old books. Because that was the only thing I was allowed to do.

Then one day, my cousin Casey showed up at the detached house. He asked me why I was alone in the house, and I told him honestly that it was because I didn’t have any magical powers. I must have been lonely to talk like that to a cousin I wasn’t that close to. But I shouldn’t have done that. That night, my father suddenly came to the house. For a moment, I hoped that maybe the cousin who came today spoke for me and I was finally forgiven. Now I can go back to the main residence. That I could spend time with my family again. In the bare minimum of life, I was really lonely by myself.

But my father slapped me without expression. He hit me without restraint, and I rolled on the floor.

“……Oh, Father?”

“I don’t remember giving you permission to call me father.”

My father, still expressionless, swung the riding whip in his hand at me. I screamed in pain. But there are no servants here. They come once in the morning to deliver the bare necessities and food, but as soon as their business is done, they return to the main residence. Now it’s just me and my father.

Even when I cried for forgiveness, my father’s whip did not stop.

My father must have kept the relatives in the dark about my lack of magical powers. He was angry because by inadvertently telling Casey about it, the world found out that I had no magical powers.

When I began to lose consciousness from the pain, my father finally stopped the whip. Then he spoke as he left.

“……You blabber on and on about your own shame. There’s nothing worse than that. This Perfectio family should not have someone like you who is magic-less. Why can’t you understand that? Listen, know your own place and never step one foot out of this house. I will not allow you to exchange words with anyone…….Really, if I had known when you were born that you are magic-less, I could have disposed of you quickly.”

My father left the house without giving me a second glance.

For this family, I am not a family member, just a disgrace. My heart turned cold with sadness.

My body suffered from pain and fever as a result of the merciless whipping, and I couldn’t lie down properly for a week. However, there is no one in the house who cares about me.

Before I knew it, it had been five years since I was no longer treated as family.

Will I one day be forgotten by everyone and die away in this detached house? If that’s the case, I wish they would at least expel me. It is rare for an aristocrat to have no magical power at all, but there are plenty among commoners. There should be an option to go down to the city and live as a commoner. That’s when I started thinking about it. My father, who had not visited me for a long time, told me that he had decided on a fiancé.

In this country, same-sex marriage is permitted in the name of the goddess. Although they cannot bear children, a male wife will have the same rights as a female wife.

My fiancé is Gilliam Anderson, the second son of the Marquess of Spencer.

My heart was warmed with a small hope that I would be able to get out of this cold house when my fiancé was decided, but this person was a person just like my father. He scorned and oppressed me for my lack of magical powers, and gave me a sticky, disgusting gaze. I just couldn’t like such a Gilliam. I felt like dying when I thought that such a man would be my husband in the future. But I didn’t have the courage to take my own life. When I thought that in the end I would spend the rest of my life being abused by both my family and my fiancé, my despair deepened even further.

After another two years, I was told to go to the Creare High School.

In any case, I would finally be able to leave this house. Entering the academy was my only hope. If I could get out of this house, I might be able to find a way to live without magic.

“Listen, don’t do anything that will cause trouble for Veritas. Don’t be the one to call out to him. And don’t ever go against Anderson’s son, okay? It is a disgrace that an incompetent like you is a member of my family, and yet……we have to let people like you out because of the benevolent system of this country……”

The feeling that I soared, even slightly, at the prospect of getting out of the mansion quickly sank to the bottom before reality set in. My older brother already attends the academy. I probably won’t be approached by my brother, but I cannot escape the family name. Besides, Gilliam and Casey, who is the same age as me, are also enrolled. I’ve never seen Casey since then, but my father whipped me because he went around telling all the relatives about my magical powers. I don’t know what a guy like that would say at the academy.

I don’t belong anywhere in this world. The goddess is cruel. Why didn’t she give me magical powers?

If I didn’t have magical power, then I at least want to be the child of a family other than Perfectio.

I wish I had never been born.

I wish I had never existed in the first place.

Fortina sama, the goddess who governs this world, if you feel sorry for me, please erase me from this world.

melon:  This whole family except Aquila, who is still too young, is an abomination. Can’t wait till the day they fall into ruin.
