When I thought that the bush where Theodore-san was directing his gaze shook greatly, a bloody magical boar appeared. I thought it was an injured magical beast, but something was wrong. The cow-sized magical boar stretched out its limbs sluggishly, and there was already no light in its eyes. Why is it floating in the air in the first place?

No, that’s wrong! That thing is……!

As soon as I spread the barrier magic around, the magical boar flies towards us. The boar is repelled back by the barrier and falls to the ground with a thud. Looking at the place where it doesn’t even move, it’s probably already dead.

But no one here was looking at it. They were staring at the dark forest, not moving an inch.

The earth rumbled, and what emerged from the darkness with a low groan was a huge jet-black body with three horns on its head.

“Tricorn……!”

It wasn’t my lightning’s fault that caused small magical beasts to hide themselves, it was this guy’s fault. If such a thing was wandering around, weak magical beasts would naturally run away.

Even so, it’s huge. That horse’s body appears to be easily more than twice the size of Matteo and the others.

“Ermmm, didn’t you say that the first layer only has magical beasts up to about medium size?”

“Apparently, that’s no longer the case.”

Percival calmly replies. This calmness in the face of such an unexpected turn of events. The men of Vanderwall are incredible……

The tricorn that attacked the magical boar is already in a state of excitement. Blood is dripping from the middle horn and its fiery red eyes are glaring as it exhales roughly. Regardless of whether they eat it or not, tricorns attack everything that moves in front of them.

“Hold down its legs, stop it from moving!”

The magicians chant at Kingsleigh-san’s voice and restrains the tricorn’s legs with ivy. But the tricorn, standing up on its hind legs, most easily broke the ivy restraining its front legs. It bared its sharp fangs and swung its large three-horned head around, kicking the earth repeatedly with its front legs in anger. This threat frightened even the brave Vanderwall horses.

“Dismount and intercept!”

At Kingsleigh-san’s order, the soldiers quickly dismounted their horses. The horses, freed from their riders, left the scene as if they knew what they were doing.

“Sapphiras, stay away from Matteo.”

“Eh ? Because…….”

“I told you. Let me present you with the horn of the tricorn.”

When Percival said that, he jumped off Mateo and ran to Kingsleigh-san and the others, leaving me behind.

No, he did say that. And I think Kingsleigh-san’s troops would be fine. But after all, that tricorn is clearly out of norm. Matteo, fully aware of Percival’s intentions, retreats to keep his distance from the tricorn.

The magicians successfully used barrier magic to repel the trampling of the steel-like hooves, but the tricorn’s skin is extremely hard, making it difficult for sword attacks to pass through. However, since the opponent is huge, the weak stomach tends to be defenceless. Theodore-san and his team are well aware of this, and slash at the belly while successfully avoiding the hooves and horns. This is an attack that takes time but certainly weakens the tricorn. They were attacking well in coordination, but a powerful blow from the tricorn’s thick rope-like tail sent a few soldiers flying.

I quickly created wind and wrapped the soldiers’ bodies around me and gently landed them in a safe place. I don’t know how injured they are, but they should be fine as the white magician went to them immediately. Just to be safe, I cast a barrier spell on them. This level of assistance is fine.

The tricorn is a really troublesome opponent, top or second with the roughest temperaments among magical beasts and a sturdy body. When Fortis was alive, a village was once destroyed by tricorns. All the houses were destroyed and most of the villagers were devoured. A party of skilled adventurers were jointly commissioned to take it down.

Percival asked me to let him give me the horns. That would mean that he would defeat the tricorn without my help. But this situation is not so good. Even the strongest Kingsleigh unit is having a tough time. Some of the soldiers might get seriously injured.

While I was wondering whether I should lend a hand or not, the sharp horn of the tricorn took aim at Percival. The tip of the horn seems to be barely deflected by the sword, but a powerful head butt throws him lightly into the air. I jumped down from Matteo and caught Percival’s body by manipulating the wind.

“Thank you, Sapphiras.”

I check the sword’s condition and hold back Percival, who is about to head for the tricorn again.

“Wait a minute, Percival! We’re supposed to be party mates, aren’t we? If we’re friends, shouldn’t we work together to complete the quest? Letting my friends fight while I’m just watching, I’m not going to be such a pathetic adventurer.”

Percival stared into my eyes when I said that and nodded deeply as he pondered something.

“Ah……that’s right. That’s right. All right, we’ll fight together.”

“That’s the way it’s got to be! Actually, I’ve got something I’d like to try. Can you help me?”

“Yeah. What do you want me to do?”

First, you transfer above the Tricorn’s head. I’ll envelop Percival’s sword with a powerful gale, so please do everything in your power to cut off its head.

That’s all I explained. But Percival nodded his head instead of asking any more. I’m trusted, aren’t I?

If I’m not careful, the force of the wind might blow his sword away, but I believe in the strength of Percival, who pulled me up with one hand.

“Let’s go!”

“Ah!”

Together with Percival, I transferred high above the tricorn’s head, enveloping the sword in magic and concentrating the power of the wind on the edge. With the assistance of the wind, the sharpness of the sword was raised, and the thick neck of the tricorn was struck.

Percival swings his sword wide. With the added speed of the fall, its power should increase. Having completed my role, I transfer away from Percival, leaving everything else to him.

“Haaaaaaah!”

The sword, which swung down vigorously while drawing white trails in the darkness, easily cuts off the tricorn’s head. As expected, the power was outstanding.

Almost as soon as Percival lands, the head of the tricorn, separated from the body, falls off with a thud.

The huge, headless body tilted and fell over on its side with a resounding thud.

“Yay!”

Theodore-san and the others, who had been stunned, finally came to their senses as I was the first to cheer. The tricorn, which had stopped moving, was surrounded by everyone, and we were once again surprised by its size.

“What in the world did it eat to get so big……?”

It’s exactly as Kingsleigh-san said.

“……Percival, that was truly magnificent, but what was that?”

“Sapphiras wrapped my sword in a gale.”

“What……that kind of thing on a weapon……”

“Since the tricorn was larger than the standard, I thought it would be difficult to inflict a fatal wound with a normal sword, so I used a bit of magic to assist it.”

“You added the power of the gale to the sword?”

“That’s right. I thought it would probably be fine, but there was a possibility that the sword would be blown away if I couldn’t control the power of the wind……but I left that to Percival’s skill.”

“Really……you never cease to amaze me, Sapphiras-dono.”

I thought for a moment that Kingsleigh-san was going to hit me on the back, but I was relieved that he only scratched my head with a wry smile.

“Brother, may I have the horn of the tricorn, as I had requested beforehand?”

“Yes, of course. It was Percival and Sapphiras-dono who dropped this guy’s head.”

“Thank you very much……Sapphiras, will you accept it?”

“Of course. It’s the first prey that Percival and I ever subjugated as a party!”

“……Oh, that’s right.”

With a smile of the sun, Percival emits a beautiful knight-like aura. It was too bright in the dark forest, and I unintentionally closed my eyes. How terrifying, Percival!

Then we were to return to our base with a tricorn’s head and magnificent magical wolf with fur. The horses that had been away came back one by one at the call of the whistle.

There are some wounded, but they are all lightly injured because the white magician (Elliot-san, I hear) has healed them.

The bodies of the tricorns and the magical wolves, which were too numerous to bring back, were buried in a hole dug in the forest.

It was quite a hard first day, but I’m glad we finished the first day without incident.

Even though I thought so…….It didn’t end there.
