The morning sun shafts broke through the night signifying dawn was becoming day.
I was having a strange dream that I was a human again.
I blinked awake and the first thing I notice is a puffball of curly golden blonde hair.
I was a bit taken aback at first, and even more so when I saw there was a body attached to the hair.
If I had been a wild snake, no question, I would have caused a commotion.
Instead, I judged the situation. There was no way for it to be in my hut unless I brought it in myself.
Those ears were not that of a human, but the being had a human appearance.
I nudged the body of the human-like being to wake it up. It flipped over to its other side.
I nudged with my head again, but this time the being sat up with a sleepy look on its face.
It's big.
After a minute, its eyes snapped open wide and turned to look at me.
"You, kid. Who are you?" I asked it.
"Master! It's me, Leo!" It yells excitedly.
I gawked at him in shock, there was no reason to lie. "Leo!? Why are you here? Did God kick you out?" I asked.
Leo stood on both his feet and faced me in all his glory.
About fifteen? That's how old that body looked.
Despite having gotten bigger, I was still small compared to a human. But I should have mentioned that we White Mamba Snake monsters are not originally small.
We are more significant than normal-sized rabbits. Maybe we are at least three feet tall? It could be Two.
But I got off-topic.
"God makes you human, but me a snake. He sure does know how to choose his favorites." I muttered.
"No, I'm not human, I'm an elf." He corrects me.
An elf, that does explain the pointy ears. I already assumed he wasn't human but I doubted it.
"So, you won't be the voice in my head anymore," I'm cool with that.
Leo places both fists on his hips and beams down at me, "that's right! It's amazing!' He gushed.
I heard whispering outside the hut.
"Leader is in there talking to someone." Yellow whispers.
"Who do you think she's talking to? Does she have a guest?" Runt asked.
It looks like the others are awake, I should go greet them.
I emerged from the hut with Leo, and all four snakes were standing near my hut.
"Leader, what is that thing?" Big asked with a frown.
"I'm not a thing, I'm Leo." Leo points to his chest while introducing himself.
I have to think up a story of who Leo is. I can't mention reincarnation or God in any form, so what can I tell them?
"As for who I am, I've been with you guys the whole time, don't you remember?" Leo asked.
I don't know what was happening, but his eyes suddenly reddened.
The other snakes seemed to be in a trance before Big spoke.
"Oh, how could I forget? Leader saved him from the spider as well." He says.
Even Yellow, "Right, it's Leo." She agrees.
They were all suddenly out of their trance.
"What were we doing?" Runt asked.
"Nothing, you were greeting your Leader." Leo points out.
I see, I guess that solves my problem, but I'll have to prevent him from using that ability on our comrades again.
"Good...morning...Leader." Snail greets with a yawn at the end.
The others greeted me and did their usual routines.
Leo and I discussed what we will be doing from now on.

"I want to be Master's Guard Captain. My sole purpose is to serve you and be of use. I think that an army of only the best should be one of our main focuses." Leo tells me.
I didn't think of it, what's a nation without those who fight for it?
I knew that at some point things would not continue to be peaceful. If I am complacent here, then I may die.
I won't be a good guy, but I won't exactly be a bad guy either. I must do whatever I can to survive. Whether it's killing humans, monsters, or whatever else I can't be softhearted.
Today I will take the others to level up and then evolve. I can't slack off either, I need to reach level ten by the end of the day.
I'm sure that Leo should also level up. "Alright, call the others to return. It's time we start getting stronger." I told Leo.
Leo nods and turns, everyone the Leader wishes for you to return.
He uses a signal and sends the message through the minds of the other snakes. "The task is done, they should be on their way back." He tells me.
I see, he must have used telepathy to relay my message.
Hours Later...
We traveled back to the cave. According to Leo, since it's a dungeon, it should have been reset by now. It takes some dungeons a day, and others more than that to reset.
That makes it a good thing. "Alright everyone, we're here to level up and then evolve! Make sure you take all the rat tails for you to eat. Today's Yak Rat Count for each of you should be fifty." I told them,
"Yes, Leader!"
We went through the cave until we came across the first batch of Yak Rats. "Fight hard everyone! Don't get hurt!" I called out.
Yak Rats were the same height as us snakes, but hunting was in our nature. As a human, I could not hunt like a snake, but these four are a different story.
I watched the battles with interest in how they each had different hunting styles. It's funny since we are all Mambas, but it makes sense in a fantasy setting.
It didn't take them long to take out their prey. Big butchered the meat into pieces leaving out the tail for evolution.
I ate the butchered rat using Skill Gluttony and the other snakes ate the tails of the Yak Rats they defeated, there were two tails for each snake.
We continued forward killing YAk Rats left and right and leveling up.
By midway, I have reached level nine and the four of the other snakes were at level four. Once they reach level five they will be able to evolve after eating more tails.
Leo had reached level six already. It turns out that God gave him a small gift that lets him gain experience fast before sending him down here.
"Leader, I reached level five!" Big exclaimed after taking down three more Yak Rats.
This cave was filled with Yak Rats, so they were pretty good for leveling up. As for me, the Yak Rats only provide me with small experience points.
Leveling up will require me to kill more than three Yak Rats to reach the next level.
Big was the first to reach level five and evolve. I learned that they had no choice in what direction their evolution led unlike myself.
Big's evolution was Rock Mamba. He gained the Hardening skill that makes his skin hard to penetrate. This gives him high defensive stats and higher strength stats.
His first path was leading him to Mamba Tank.
Yellow's evolution was Yellow-tailed Mamba. Her whole body was no longer yellow, her top half was brown and her lower half yellow.
She says she got Crafting Skills. It's good since it was better than when she didn't have it. A skill helps a person grow, having the actual crafting skill will help her grow in making things.
Her path was leading her to Mamba Craftsman.
Runt's evolution focused on his intelligence. His evolution was focused on him gaining mana. Grey-headed Mamba.
The top of his head was grey and the rest of the body was the same as before. He also gained the Mana Technique and Mana Breathing Skills.
His path was leading him to become a Mamba Mage
Last, but not least was Snail. His evolution focused on speed and stealth. I was greatly surprised that his skin became all black.
He acquired Evasion skills and Stealth skills.
His path was called Mamba Assassin.
As for Leo, there was no evolution path for him. But he did gain a new skill once he reached level eight.
He gained swordsmanship skills and combat skills. Since he had been focusing on getting stronger, I wasn't too surprised that he gained them.
Now that they all had gained their evolution paths, it was now time to face the Mama Yak Rat Again.
I will deal with her again since she should be able to help me reach level ten.
