The next morning, me and Lizz woke up and left the house early. The sun had not yet risen. Cleo was still sleeping. After the battle yesterday, she needed time to rest and regain her strength.
I told Lizz about what happened at the church, and she provided me with information regarding Elemiah. She knew quite a bit about him, as her mother had worked with the Inquisitor in the past and had so many complaints. Elemiah had always been like that. His hatred of the Demon race was so intense that he would stop at nothing to hunt and eliminate them. For example, there was an incident when he razed an entire village while trying to capture a single demon. People were outraged and horrified by his actions, but the Church still stood behind him, defending him and claiming that he did nothing wrong. He even got promoted to the rank of High Inquisitor at such a young age. This made me understand why Cleo despised this guy so much. I thought angels were supposed to be kind and caring. But Elemiah was the opposite of that. He was such a cold-blooded person. Yes, Elemiah was an angel. Angels in this world were not a race, but rather a title or blessing bestowed by the Goddess of Light. Regardless of who a person was, if they passed some sort of divine test, they could become an angel.
On the other hand, the reason we woke up early today was that Lizz wanted to take me to the temple of the Goddess of the North, Aquilonyan. I was currently powerless, unable to use the Auraelis Aquilonia constellation that I possessed and had no Bloodline skill. Therefore, Lizz believed that a visit to the goddess temple, where I could pray with sincerity, might lead to a miracle and the activation of my abilities.
So, we set out hand in hand, each carrying a pack filled with food and water, as well as two sets of armor, swords, and shields for our protection. The journey from Merton East to the temple would take us through a small forest filled with small monsters. We wanted to be prepared for any possible encounters along the way.
And then, we soon arrived at the forest outside of our city. We entered it and strolled down a small path. Both sides of the path were lined with tall trees that looked like pines and below, there were berry bushes. Luminous light shone through the leaves and illuminated the path, enchanting. Birds were constantly chirping, and small animals were rustling. Walking down the path, the glowing butterflies were like tiny stars dancing in the air. Their wings shimmered in the sunlight and their colors were beautifully vibrant. Every step I took deeper into the forest felt like a journey through a mystical fairy tale. In a way, it was a dreamlike experience.
And regarding the monsters, "Don't worry, there are some monsters there, but mostly D or C rank. I can defeat them easily! So no need to fear anything!”
Lizz said and confidently led me through the forest. A few wild horned dogs attacked us on the way, but she easily dispatched them without breaking a sweat. Her swordsmanship was precise, her movements swift, and her killings showed no signs of hesitation. After all, Lizz was the daughter of an S-rank knight! Even though she was so gentle and lovely, I was sure that if she got serious, she could be just as intimidating as her mother.
And then, as we walked out of the forest after 4 long hours, my eyes were met with the breathtaking sight of a vast body of water stretching out before me. Lizz was already hopping ahead of me in excitement. "This is Merton Lake!" she shouted and waved. "We've finally made it! What do you think?"
"It's amazing nya!" I replied, my voice filled with awe, wishing that I had a camera to capture the beauty of this natural wonder.
The lake was so vast that it was almost like an ocean, with small waves lapping against the shore. The water was brilliant blue, with sunlight sparkling and glistening off it. The sky was clear, not a single cloud in sight. The air was crisp and clean. I threw my arms wide, basking in the sun and feeling its warmth on my skin. In the distance, I could see the silhouette of a mountain range, dotted with peaks that rose high into the sky. The tips of the mountains were capped with snow, adding to the stunning beauty of the view.
However, despite its beauty, this lake was deserted, with no boats in sight. As Lizz explained on the way here, this was due to a deadly force lurking beneath the surface of the water.
"Remember what I said? You can only look from afar. Don't touch or step into the water, okay?"
"Yeah, I know!" I replied. "I'll stay away from it nya!"
Well, not being able to swim in such a beautiful lake was quite disappointing. But I would rather be safe than sorry. After all, there had been many cases of people getting sick after touching the lake's water.
