"Kehoda, this looks like it's gonna be a problem" Keru thinks internally while trying to regain his composure.

Keru was seated on a chair facing the guildmaster with the lie detector placed on the desk in between them.

"Lie detectors detect sincerity not fact, though I doubt that it changes much." Keru muses as he was self-aware that he did likely break a rule. He couldn't convince himself that the events that he was directly a part of did not occur.

"Probably should have thought that they'd eventually find out when I do dumb things like this… which kingdom should I run to?" Keru begins to think of a plan to leave the kingdom.

"Alright kid, first things first, what's your name?" The questions begin.

"I call myself Miru" Keru answers while he thinks "When I'm at the guild at least" internally.

"Are you Miru, the adventurer who just got promoted to silver?"

"Yes Sir"

"Are you human as written in your registration?"

"Yes Sir"

"Huh, is he checking for doppelgangers" Keru thinks about the questions the guild master is asking. Doppelgangers are rare but not unheard of.

"Did you kill and rob 4 iron rank adventurers in an alley in this city around a week ago?"

"Damn, I took their guild tags too. Sigh, no sense in lying now since he's gonna nap in a bit. I'll make a run for it after I answer his questions, It would feel kind of bad if someone else gets in trouble for my mess" Keru's internal dialogue leads to him deciding to be honest.

"Yes Sir"

"Why?"

The guildmaster asks a follow-up immediately making Keru hesitate.

"They were about to… have fun with some kids"

"Do you think you could've stopped them without killing"

"...Yes, probably"

"Do you regret it"

"No… my blood was boiling now just remembering what they tried to do."

"Why'd you rob them?"

"It felt like a waste to leave their gold to be honest, guildmaster."

"Did you have any help?"

"…"

"Shit, I'd rather not give any info on that idiot" Keru thinks as he is internally troubled by the question.

"Answer kid"

"I asked someone to help gag them, but I was the one who killed them"

"Did that someone have anything else to do with this?"

"… I asked them to grab their coin pouches for me"

"I'll put him to sleep immediately if he asks for direct info." Keru decides immediately and makes a plan.

"How much was there?"

"About two gold coins total in silver and bronze"

"Alright kid, last question. Were you happy you ran into people you could kill?"

Keru's figure stiffens, then he looks down.

"I... don't know."

Silence sets in for a few seconds. Then Keru remembers something.

"Guildmaster?"

"Yeah kid?"

"...Do you know what happened to those kids?"

"Their fine, their parents used to be active adventurers so their happy those four idiots are gone."

"I see, do you know why the kids were out that late by the way?"

The guildmaster thinks for a few moments.

"Those kids left their mom's office without telling and tried to adventure around town. They were already at the edge of town before they noticed the sun had set."

"Ah, I see."

"Now kid, were going to be fining you 2 gold coins for robbing those adventurers, and you'll be doing a request no questions asked"

"Huh …sounds pretty light for murder to me." Keru's thoughts are surprised by the lightness of his punishments.

"Ah no problem guildmaster."

"Also, the details of what happened will be kept secret, no one else is allowed to know anything."

"Yes sir."

"This is weird, thought they'd be madder. Guess I don't have to leave town then. " Keru decides to accept the unexpected turn of events.

"You can leave now, come back tomorrow for the request"

"Yes guildmaster, thank you"

Keru turns to leave.

"By the way, catch kid." Ukko flips a coin towards Keru.

Keru grabs and looks at the gold coin in his hand and realizes something.

"Guildmaster, you don't happen to have any kids right?"

"I have two, they take too much after their parents."

The gruff guildmaster smiles slightly.

"I see, thank you guildmaster. I'll be back tomorrow."

"I got pretty lucky it looks like. Thanks Lady, that coincidence was really helpful" Keru smiles and says internally, thanking his sponsor for his luck.

"Take care kid, try to think more next time." The guildmaster warns and wishes Keru well.

A few moments after Keru leaves, the guildmaster sighs.

"You two can come out from under the desk."

"No fair papa."

"Yeah pops, how'd you notice?"

Two children come out from the matching large drawers on either side of the desk. One is a dwarf boy who is slighty shorter than his human sister. They position themselves in front of Ukko with their arms crossed.

"You kids are decades too young to hide from me, even without detection magic."

"We'll make sure to hide better next time" The two children puff up their cheeks.

"Anyway, what did you think of him?"

"He was scary at first but it made me happy to know he asked how he were at the end." Answers the girl.

"Yeah same here... but why'd you let him of the hook pops?"

"Good question, aside from being dumb enough to try and touch both of you, the 4 idiots he killed were on their way to execution anyway with their history that we dug up after they died. If he just stopped short of killing them, he would've been getting a reward."

"Then why isn't he getting a reward papa?"

"The adventurer guild can't just let our adventurers kill each other without a guild investigation. Plus, the rumors of those four-dying spread across town and is giving your mom a headache. After yesterday's news of those deaths in the capital, every tavern is talking about how there might be a monster within the city."

"Hm, what happened in the capital pops?"

"There's been a lot of deaths in the capital recently, I'm not telling the details to kids but at least they didn't match what happened to the adventurers Keru killed. I just got an express message earlier today from the guildmaster in capital calling in a favour and asking me to a send a silver rank to help them out since their adventurers aren't cutting it."

"Huh wouldn't the capital have strong adventurers too pops?"

"The capital has the knight orders which keep it safe from threats. Most of their adventurers are doing errand and delivery jobs instead of fighting monsters like here in the frontier cities. Once their adventurers reach iron, most of them leave if they want any chance of ranking up."

"Oh so since there are no monsters or bandits in the capital, its really hard to find ways to rank-up papa?"

"Mhm, you can get by with errand quests until iron if your patient. But past that, you can't be useless in a fight if you want the guild to approve your promotion"

"Is Mr Miru going to catch-up to you Papa?"

"Grr! That brat's a century too young to catch up to me"

"That said with his bloodmagic, he could probably be gold in a few years. It would be faster if he could control that bloodthirst of his, especially since he's going to run into some idiot nobility. I can't sweep killing noble under the rug no matter what the reason." The guildmaster ponders inside about the future of the guild's new silver adventurer.

"I wonder what their gonna call him if he does makes gold pops." Asks the guildmaster's son.

"It's bad luck to start thinking about nicknames before making it to gold." The guildmaster immediately replies.

"To think that someone would be thinking of gold-rank nicknames for an adventurer less than a year without me laughing. Even for bloodline magic, the kid's ability is abnormal. Must be some kicked out prince, wonder why he's here as an adventurer. Seeing him ready to put me sleep the moment I asked him too much made me feel young though, I miss acting like an idiot." The guildmaster thinks back on the conversation he had just had.

While Ukko is in thought, he's daughter asks a question.

"By the way papa, is alright if me and brother register as adventurers?"

"You kids are still ten, like I'd let you get yourselves killed." He denies them firmly.

"Huh?! But you and mum registered when you were ten too!" his son suddenly jumps in.

"Grr... We did that because we had nothing else to feed ourselves!" The guildmaster defends himself.

"But wasn't mama's papa a margrave and your papa was one of their knights?" The daughter asks confused.

"Damn, I can't just tell them that we did it for fun and didn't want to be nobles, both of our families were pissed when they found out too." The guildmaster curses in his mind.

"Fine, I'll let you kids register" ignoring his daughter's question not willing to expose his lie, the guildmaster relents.

"Yayy!" Both children jump for joy.

"Hold on! I'll only let you register but I'm not letting you take requests without training first." Ukko curbs their enthusiasm.

"But!" Both children try to complain loudly.

"No buts! All three of us will be praying if you kids ever get hurt and your mother finds out." Ukko calls on the name of the kids' mother to help him.

The two kids look at each other and slowly nod obediently.

"Alright pops, but who's gonna train us?" The young boy asks.

"Are you going to request Mister Miru since you helped him?" The young daughter inquires about the silver ranked adventurer who was just there.

"No, that kid could beat a group of silvers by himself but still can't think like one. Besides, he's gonna be busy in the Capital anyway. Kei told me that there are three adventurers who just made bronze in around half the time than usual, your training will start when they make Iron."

His children shrug in acceptance.

"Well, now that that's out of the way. I wonder how the kid will help with the mess in the capital. Even the nobles are getting antsy. Whoever's been rampaging without getting caught might even give him trouble." The guild master thinks about the horrid details of the events that are occurring in the capital.

After leaving the guildhall, Keru found a place to stop and focused his mind.

"Hey." He begins.

"...Hey Keru, what's up" His friend replies after sometime.

"Not much, on my way back to the capital surprisingly." Keru answers his friend's question nonchalantly.

"Ey, sounds great lets go hunting" His friend immediately invites him to go on another bloody outing.

"Uhuh, about that, seems like the guild just hired me to hunt you." Keru mentions the quest he had just received, he had already put two and two together when heard the details of what had happened.

"Sounds like fun" His friend replies immediately, never losing any joy or playfulness in his voice.
