Chapter 149 - "If I am Yun Tan, I shall not regret." (1)
The tears of the old mother were stopped by an incoming call.
Gu Nian was still sniffling when she pulled out her cellphone. Through her tears that blurred vision, Gu Nian saw that the caller was Hurry Up and Get Down on Your Knees for This Decree. Gu Nian burped reflexively and her tears stopped immediately.
After staring at it quietly for two seconds, Gu Nian put her cellphone down with the screen facing down and a “SLAP!” sound.
The cellphone went into silent mode automatically.
“Who’s it from?” asked Luo Xiu.
“My mom,” replied Gu Nian as she rubbed her eyes.
“Is it okay to not pick it up then?” asked Luo Xiu.
“It will be 50/50 between dead and half-dead,” grumbled Gu Nian.
Luo Xiu busted out laughing, “Then why wouldn’t you pick it up?”
“I don’t want to.”
“Why not?”
“She is just going to nag me again……”
“Nag you about what?”
“To find myself a boyfriend; to go on arranged dates; why I didn’t add the guys on my chat app; why did I add them only to remove them later, etc. etc.” Gu Nian’s voice softened and she finally rested her head back down on her arms.
“… …”
Luo Xiu’s eyes flickered.
“To look for a boyfriend?”
“Mmhmm,” replied the drunk and confused girl.
“But don’t you have a boyfriend already?”
“Hmm…?”
She lifted her head up with a dazed look.
“I have a boyfriend?”
“Mmmhmm. You said so yourself.”
“… …”
The little girl lowered her head after she heard that. Her brows furrowed for quite a few seconds as though she was trying to locate that boyfriend that she had forgotten in some corner of her memory.”
After she had thought about it long and hard, she unfurrowed her brows and cracked into a foolish smile. She waved her alabaster paw ––
“How’s that possible?”
Luo Xiu, “Hmm?”
The girl thrusted out her chest proudly, “I, Gu Nian, had been single for all of the 22 years since birth. I don’t have a boyfriend!”
Luo Xiu, “… …”
Luo Xiu lowered his eyes and asked in a seemingly casual manner. “Zhu Hanyu had seen a name in your contact. The surname is Lin and the last character is Tian. You said he’s your boyfriend.”
“Lin Tian? Lin something Tian… … Oh! You mean Lin Nantian!” The girl chuckled foolishly. “She’s my best friend! Girlfriend! We grew up together and she is very, very, very, very nice to me!”
“… …”
The wind began to die down on the patio.
Then, it returned all of a sudden, bringing with it a loud noise.
“I see… …” Luo Xiu’s lips curved upward. His eyes dyed a dark and deep color by the night. “Just as I thought. You don’t have a boyfriend.”
“Noo-pe!”
Gu Nian raised both of her hands proudly.
Luo Xiu looked at her deeply and, after a little while, lowered his eyes and chuckled ––
He had suspected the existence of said “boyfriend” when he realized that she was Mengzhi. Now that he coaxed her to say it out loud, it was an entirely different kind of joy.
Gu Nian, who was drunk, had no idea why her precious son busted out laughing all of a sudden. In fact, his smile was very… … charming. A different kind of charm than how he normally was. His eyelashes that were lowered looked like they had fragments of stars fallen onto them. They sparkled under the light and made it impossible for one to look away.
Gu Nian looked at him dazed for a few seconds and asked in a soft voice, “Are you very happy right now?”
“… Mmhmm.” Luo Xiu looked up; the corners of his lips lifted up. “Never been happier.”
“Something happened that made you very happy?
“Mmhmm.”
“What is it?” Gu Nian dragged her rattan chair closer to him and her eyes were filled with curiosity. “I would like to hear about it too.”
“Maybe later in time.”
“Hmm?”
“In the future, I will let you know bit by bit.”
“… … Oh.”
Gu Nian nodded regretfully but she didn’t remain disappointed for very long before she switched gear abruptly. “Then let’s continue our discussion with our script!”
