Chapter 168 - "Did both your agency and the production team forgot to arrange for transportation for you?" (1)
Gu Nian, dispirited, sat in the hotel lobby and leaned against her suitcase while waiting for the bus arranged by the production team to pick them up and take them back to City M.
Demons was a mid-size cast and had a full set of personnel. After their work was over, the production team had arranged for all the teams under the filming crew to take buses in batches on their way out.
Most of the actors were picked up by their own nanny van from their respectful agencies and the other teams took off in order of their perceived importance. Finally, only the fieldwork team along with the screenwriter team were left.
They received news that something was wrong with the bus and it would arrive late.
“Now we can tell the order of importance of all the teams in the eyes of the director team,” said Jiang Xiaoqing, pursing her lips. “And that Director Lin was all ‘Xiao Gu’ this and ‘Xiao Gu’ that all day long. In the end, they still shoved Gu Nian and us at the very bottom!”
Qin Yuanyuan smiled helplessly, “Oh, you just realize that? Director Lin was known to be someone who puts up a good front. He had been working with Director Geng for almost 20 years and had always played good cop / bad cop – its on us to think that he truly values us.”
Jiang Xiaoqing, “Hrm. That’s so hypocritical!”
Qin Yuanyuan, “Oh, quit with the whining. Gu Nian didn’t even say anything about it.”
Jiang Xiaoqing looked over at Gu Nian as gestured by Qin Yuanyuan. Sure enough, Gu Nian leaned against the extended handle bar listlessly with her I-will-not-let-anything-from-this-material-world-bother-me blank look.
Jiang Xiaoqing sat down next to her, “Guru Gu Nian?”
“……”
There were two seconds of silence.
Gu the sloth Nian turned her head slowly.
Jiang Xiaoqing couldn't help but busted out laughing. She bumped her gently with her shoulder. “Did you hear what Yuanyuan and I were talking about?”
Sloth Nian remained silence for a little while before she pulled up the conversation that she had just heard from her immediately memory. Nodded languidly and expressionlessly, she said, “Yeah, I heard you.”
“Then, is there anything you want to say as the person in question?”
Gu Nian thought about it for a few seconds and leaned back onto the handlebar listlessly. “As long as they pay me the remainder amount on time, I don’t care which bus we are talking.”
“……”
Jiang Xiaoqing gave her a thumbs up. “Guru Gu Nian had it all figured out. I feel much better now.”
Seeing that the girl’s eyelids were about to droop back down, Jiang Xiaoqing, not sure what to make of that, asked, “Look at you. You are a step away from turning into a mollusk. What is it? Too sad to be apart from your precious son?”
“…………”
Struck where it hurt the most, Gu Nian looked up, teary eyes, and nodded twice forcefully.
She said, in pain, “People always only know to treasure what one was about to lose. I was just thinking about how I did treasure every second of every minute that I had to be close to my precious son in the past month. I regret about it so now that the opportunity is about to be over.”
“It will be fine,” said Jiang Xiaoqing as she patted Gu Nian on her shoulder. “We are all in City K and in the same circle. You will run into him again in the future.”
Gu Nian sighed, “No, I won’t.”
Jiang Xiaoqing, “Why not?”
Gu Nian, “Because I have a lot of faith in my precious son.”
Jiang Xiaoqing, “? What does that have to do with anything?”
“…Aye.”
“?”
Still leaning over the handle bar, Gu Nian sighed sadly. “With my precious son’s unrivaled good looks, as long as Demons is aired as planned, he would become famed overnight.”
“So?”
“So, with the right opportunities and his agency’s work, he would quickly become a popular actor with lots of fans.”
“……”
“Then I will just be one common mom fan in his millions of fans. I am doomed to be drowned out in his sea of fans.”
“……”
Gu Nian turned her head, still with tears in her eyes, “Wouldn’t you say that’s a very sad story?”
Jiang Xiaoqing thought about it some and comforted her, “Oh, be more optimistic. Perhaps the show will die an instant death right after its launch.”
