Chapter 195 - "Except that I am greedy; I want her for life." (3)
After Gu Nian had pacified Jiang Xiaoqing and returned to Lin Xi, she noticed that Luo Xiu was looking down on his phone in his left hand. It seemed like he was looking at some texts or phone log on his screen.
Gu Xi asked softly, “You have something to take care of?”
Luo Xiu looked up. The emotions disappeared in his eyes and were replaced by tenderness. “No, nothing. Just a message from a friend.”
“Let’s head over there now?”
“Mmm.”
On the dimming screen on Luo Xiu’s phone, there was only one message from a string of numbers that was not labeled:
[We have yet to found out the reason behind Mengzhi’s dropping out of school and retreating from the entertainment circle. But we have found out these two pieces of information:
One. Mengzhi was involved in a certain incident before she dropped out of school. The other party involved in the accident was Zheng Haolei, the young master of Dingke Media, the company that you had signed a 2-year temporary contract with.
Two. After Mengzhi was famed from Enlighten Me, she had once signed a contract with Dingke Media as a professional singer. We are not able to verify the truthfulness of this. Mengzhi did not have contract with any agency at the time she retreated.]
Zheng. Hao. Lei.
Luo Xiu looked up a little. His eyes brimming with coldness.
He had very good memory, with the exception of names. Most everyone’s name and faces whom he was not interested in would be erased automatically in less than a day.
But he remembered this particular name.
Last month, while he was staying with the Demons’ team, he had heard that name from Zhu Hanyu, his assistant, when they were talking about his first meeting with Gu Nian when she was Mengzhi.
[…… Didn’t you tell me when you first received the notebook that you two met for the first time on July 31?]
[If you are talking about 2018, then that was the day that you signed with Dingke Media!]
[Brother Luo, I’ve heard it from Sister Anna. It was Dingke Media’s young mater who accompanied you to the signing in person……]
Luo Xiu’s eyes turned gloomy.
What happened inside of Dingke Media that year---
“Luo Xiu?”
“……”
The voice next to him pulled him back into reality all of a sudden. He lowered his eyes and saw Gu Nian looking at him blankly. “Do you not feel well? You didn’t look well a minute ago.”
Luo Xiu quickly closed and reopened his eyes and stashed away the emotions in his eyes. Chuckling softly, he said, “I’m fine. I just spaced out for a second there as I recalled something.”
Gu Nian hesitated for a second and asked, “Is it something bad?”
She wasn’t certain whether the unfamiliar Luo Xiu that she saw for a brief moment there that made her called out his name reflexively was her imagination or her overthinking it.
But, in that very moment, in that pair of dark brown eyes were very different from the tenderness that she was familiar with. In fact……
It was something drastically different.
Perhaps, that was just her imagination?
Gu Nian blinked, got rid of her worries, and put a smile back on herself. “It’s nothing. An apprentice had already taken the reading that I had done for you for interpretation. We can just wait here for it!”
Luo Xiu eyes deepened. “Alright.”
Gu Nian turned around. “But why isn’t Xiaoqing here yet? She shouldn’t have been very far from us––“
Before Gu Nian was done talking, a shadow came straight at her. “Guru Gu Nian! We made it!”
Gu Nian was dumbfounded by the person jumping into her arms. She had to take half a step back to steady herself. “What did we make?”
Jiang Xiaoqing was so excitement that her face was flushed. She grabbed Gu Nian on her shoulders after she had gotten down from Gu Nian. “The script that was in negotiation last week. They said they have more or less made their decision and to have our team go over there and walk them through our outlines.!”
Gu Nian, too, was surprised to hear that. Her eyes curved. “That’s great.”
Jiang Xiaoqing, “Oh, how come you don’t look excited at all? I was so excited that I ran around a tree a few times when I heard the news from Yuanyuan!”
Gu Nian smiled.
Jiang Xiaoqing went on and on for a while before it suddenly dawned on Gu Nian to ask, “When did they want us to go over there?”
“Today. This afternoon! That’s why Yuanyuan called me. She said for us to head back right away.”
“That much of a rush?” Gu Nian reflexively turned and looked behind her, “But, I still got to––“
Luo Xiu, standing a few steps behind her, heard the entire conversation.
Seeing Gu Nian’s hesitation, he smiled gently at her. “Don’t delay on your work because of me.”
Gu Nian was hesitant. “But wouldn’t you be bored waiting here by yourself for your interpretation?”
