Chapter 202 - Touching the arm that she was lifting, he stepped in front of her. (1)
“Oh? Who will you be meeting up with?” The man smiled and turned. He leaned back in his chair and played with a metal pen that was shimmering with a cold light. “I think, no matter who that might be, they would not mind passing the lunch opportunity onto me.”
Gu Nian’s look did not change at all. She merely looked up after she heard his words at the man standing next to him. “Producer Jin, if your production team is the kind that will require the screenwriter to offer up unspoken favors n order to work together, then perhaps you won’t need to be drafting our contract.”
The man’s face stiffened a little. Shocked, he looked at the languid-looking but unusually aggressive girl.
He cleared his throat in embarrassment and smiled, “You have misunderstood, Miss Gu. That was not what Boss Zheng meant. He merely enjoys making more friends.”
“I see.” It seemed that Gu Nian had accepted his explanation. “If that’s the case, that I should not need to tell you about my private plans –– I can say that and it still would not affect us working together, right?”
The male producer, “……”
The male producer smiled awkwardly and peeked over at Zheng Haolei sitting next to the conference table. Before his sight had landed on him, he heard the man chuckled in a low and deep voice and said concisely, “Of course…… not.”
“Okay. We shall be on our way then.”
Gu Nian turned and gestured Qin Yuanyuan and Jiang Xiaoqing, who had yet to figure out what was going on. She waited until the two had recollected themselves and walked up to the front before she picked up her bag and walked over to the door.
The entire time that she was walking around the conference table, the man never moved his eyes away from her for even one second.
All the way until Qin Yuanyuan and Jiang Xiaoqing had disappeared into the long hallway and Gu Nian was a step away from walking out of the conference room, the man spoke suddenly –
“I had hatched my bet incorrectly.”
“……”
Gu Nian paused for a second before she kept on walking without looking back.
The man behind her turned, leaned against the back of the chair, his voice and eyes followed her at the same time, “You do know what actions I will take when I hatch my bet incorrectly, right, Gu Nian?”
Gu Nian’s back stiffened.
Her steps slowed. She looked over at Qin Yuanyuan and Jiang Xiaoqing, who were looking at her worriedly from a few meters away in the hall, gave them a languid but reassuring smile, before turning her head.
She looked at the man out of the corners of er eyes and her voice was soft and languid, “Even a dog will know to run away with its tail between its legs. Are you worse than a dog?”
“––!”
Her voice was soft, but it was loud enough for the three men in the conference room to hear her.
Jin Kun and Lian Jincheng, the two producers, were stunned silent instantly. They turned to check for the reaction from the man in the chair but stopped themselves midway through. They didn’t want him taking it out on them.
The girl, who had dropped those vicious words, did not stay for more back and forth. She was short of running when she walked out of the room.
A few seconds later, she disappeared in their sights with her two partners in tow.
Jin Kun was still worried about how to smooth things over for Zheng Haolei when Zheng Haolei started laughing suddenly and his laughter grew louder and louder.
And he wasn’t annoyed. He didn’t sound angry at all but it was filled with unsuppressed and unconcealed joy.
Jin Kun, failing to control the look on him, exchanged a look with Liang Jincheng. The two looked at each other, dazed, for a long time.
Had Zheng Haolei gone crazy just like that?
When Zheng Haolei had finished laughing, Jin Kun hesitated and started saying, “Boss Zheng, this Miss Gu seemed…… not to respectful when she talked to you. Are we still going to work with her on the script?”
“Why wouldn’t we?”
There was still laughter remaining on Zheng Haolei’s eyes and lips. Looking at Jin Kun with the light from behind him, his eyes were a deep and evil looking.
Jin Kun’s neck shrank back a little and he avoided it.
Zheng Haolei pushed the chair back and started walking toward the door. Jin Kun followed him after he had recollected himself, “Where are you heading?”
