Chapter 24 - “The director team informed us that they no longer need us for the new role.” (2)
Unfortunately, the screen had already turned off and the little assistant wasn’t able to read the text fast enough. “What did she say?”
“Hmm, I want to say,” said Luo Xiu as he turned his head and looked at the night scene outside of the window. “She was either gloating or threatening me.”
The little assistant was startled. “Huh? What was she gloating about?”
“That she has dirt on me.”
“?!” The little assistant got nervous all of a sudden. “Has she made any demands? Should we inform Sister Anna?”
“No, she didn’t. There’s no need to overreact.”
Thinking of something, Luo Xiu removed his spectacles, picked up the cleaning cloth and started wiping the skinny temples of his frame.
The little assistant let out a sigh of relief and grumbled, “And you told me that isn’t her intention? It totally is.”
“Is what?”
“Sexual favors from you!” The little assistant frowned. “From where I stand, not only does she want sexual favors from you, she also cares a lot about the user experience.”
“?”
“She told me that you are too skinny on her way out and had me feed you more. Obviously, she worried that you are not buff enough.”
“……”
The beautiful fingers holding the cleaning cloth paused.
After a few seconds of quietness, there was a bone-chilling chuckle.
“She said that?”
The little assistant nodded violently. “She sure did. She even recommended a restaurant that stays open late to me.”
“Okay.”
The little assistant was baffled. “Okay what?”
Luo Xiu looked up languidly. For a split second there, there was still a hint of faked tenderness in his eyes and, suddenly, a fierce look emerged from them.
That only lasted a brief second.
He put the silver-framed spectacles back on and the tender smile returned to his eyes. Leaning in the chair, Luo Xiu’s look returned to its nonchalant state.
“Interesting.”
“?”
The little assistant was even more baffled.
Luo Xiu did not elaborate to him. “Go get some rest if there’s nothing else. I need to take a shower.”
The little assistant recollected himself, pointed at the man’s half-dried hair and said, “Didn’t you just shower?”
“……”
The scene of being pinned to the wall by Zhuo Yixuan replayed itself suddenly. Luo Xiu’s eyes turned cold and he looked up nonchalantly without saying anything.
The little assistant had it figured out by now. “Ah, I see. It is because you have spent too much time being in the same room with that little screenwriter, right?”
That reminded Luo Xiu of something else and he looked down at his wrist. Contrasting to the strong scent of the perfume from Zhuo Yixuan, he recalled the hint of fragrance that seemed to have come from shampoo.
Was it because it departed so briefly that it didn’t leave him with an unpleasant feeling?
The little assistant was still grumbling next to his ear. “Brother Luo, I must say this. We really need to work on your extreme germophobic tendency. You will offend too many people if you can’t even have a sip of water in public… although I doubt that can be cured.”
“That’s not necessarily true.”
“Oh?”
Luo Xiu looked away from his wrist and stood up. The little assistant, who just happened to turn around, noticed the soft-covered notebook that Luo Xiu had put down casually earlier and shouted, “Aye, be careful!”
But his warning came a little too late.
The notebook, bumped by Luo Xiu, fell from the end table onto the floor with a dull thud.
Luo Xiu bent over and picked the notebook up. He was going to put it on top of the table but half way picking it up, a card fell out from the notebook.
He stopped.
[Happy June 1 Children’s Day for my precious son! I hope you are happy every day!
Mom will always love you!]
As if to drive the point home, there were even heart-shaped fireworks drawn carefully on the card.
Luo Xiu, “……”
The little assistant standing next to him saw that as well and he busted out laughing. “Oh, Brother Luo, what a loyal fan you’ve got there? With the exception of Ching Ming festival, she would mail you all sorts of nutrients and health supplements on every single holiday on the calendar.”
Luo Xiu stood up straight. “This time as well?”
Little assistant, “Yeah, two big boxes of them. They are all sitting at the office. Knowing that you won’t use them, they didn’t bother mailing them here as they are quite heavy. That being said, she really has been taking care of you like a real mother would in the past two years.”
Luo Xiu didn’t say anything but flipped open the cover of the notebook to put the card back inside of it.
While he was doing that, he spotted the black bolded words on the inside of the cover -- "Mengzhi’s Son-Raising Diary”
Below that was a simple Q-version of him, complete with wings behind his back.
The memo next to it was: My precious son is an angel. Mom will always love and protect you. Love ya!
Lu Xun, “……”
He was quite interested in meeting this fake mother of his right about now.
