Chapter 68 - He looked down and let the tender smile covered up the deep darkness in his eyes. (1)
“Boy… friend?” Repeated Luo Xiu.
It wasn’t every day that Luo Xiu was dazed.
“Yes!” The little assistant was very angry for his boss. “They had known each other for many years. They grew up together, in fact! They are about to get married soon!”
Luo Xiu recollected himself, lowered his eyes some and asked, “Who did you hear that from?”
“Gu Nian said it herself and I heard it with my own ears! She was on the phone with her boyfriend just a moment ago and I overheard it. She was all ‘dear’ and ‘I love you’. Yuck! It gave me goosebumps!”
“Mmhmm.”
The little assistant waited for their boss’s reaction angrily. He thought his boss would at least teach this fearless little screenwriter who was trying to seduce their boss even though she has a boyfriend a lesson even if that meant having to pull some strings!
He waited and waited and finally all Luo Xiu did was stood up and straightened up his clothes.
The little assistant was baffled. “Boss, isn’t there something that you want to say?”
“?”
Luo Xiu turned around.
His beautiful eyes, the color of dark brown amber, seemed to have recalled something.
“Have you given her the night tea?”
The little assistant, “… … ? ?”
The little assistant was anxious. “How can that be your take away after all this??”
Luo Xiu leaned forward and picked up the Nanhua Scripture that was placed upside down on the coffee table. Slowly flipping through a couple of pages, he said in a clear voice with his eyes lowered, “What do you mean by all this?”
“You should be retaliating and teaching her a lesson on trying to pull stunts like this so she would never try to seduce another man when she was about to be married!”
The little assistant blurted that all out and he said it so fast that even his neck was reddened.
Luo Xiu raised his lips some and smiled. “But she didn’t do anything.”
“She was short of taking you to a room --- no, she had already been to your room… she was short of pushing you down and forcing you into the act! What do you mean by she didn’t do anything?”
Luo Xiu closed the book, looked up, and smiled slightly. “If she hadn’t succeeded, then why should I retaliate?”
“… …”
The little assistant was speechless for a long while.
When he saw that Luo Xiu was picking up his books and was about to take off, he was finally anxious and walked up to him. “It really doesn’t bother you how she tried to throw herself at you even though she has a boyfriend??”
“Why should that bother me?”
Luo Xiu didn’t even look at his little assistant when he said that.
The little assistant’s eyes resembled that of a dead fish. “… …”
He would have fallen for that had he not just delivered the thermos of night tea just a moment ago.
“Eh, Mr. Luo Xiu, you two are still here?”
Came a female voice all of a sudden.
“!”
Startled, the little assistant almost leaped straight up where he was standing. He turned around, frantic.
Sure enough, he saw the girl walking up toward them from behind while hugging the thermos with both of her arms.
By the time she stopped in front of them, the languid look was already gone and her eyes were curved from her smile. Cocking her head some, she looked passed the little assistant and toward Luo Xiu, who had his back to her.
“Mr. Luo Xiu, thank you so much for the night tea. I just tried a little of it and it is delicious. I promise I will finish every last drop of it after I get back to my place tonight!”
“… …”
Luo Xiu’s hands that had been tidying up his Taoism scriptures stopped in midair for a little bit. Turning around, the smile in his eyes were gentle but patchy, like there were fragments of gloominess mixed in them.
“I am glad you like it, Miss Gu.”
“Of course I do. I like everything from Mr. Luo Xiu!”
Gu Nian didn’t even think before she raised the thermos and shook it. The simple fact of receiving the first gift from her precious son was enough for her to keep smiling for months.
“Don’t worry. I will guard it on my way back tonight and I promise I will clean the thermos thoroughly before I return it to you tomorrow.”
