The cable car took the two of them back to the middle of the mountain, where they had boarded it.
Walking out of the cabin that resembled a glass shield, the sky outside of the station was being to get dark. The cable car worker kindly reminded them, “There were lights on both side of the path leading down the mountain but be careful anyway.”
“We shall. Thank you.”
Gu Nian said goodbye to the worker and walked back over to Luo Xiu. She looked up and smiled at him. “Only one more pleasant surprise left, Mr. Luo Xiu.”
Luo Xiu played along with her, “What is it?”
Gu Nian blinked. “It’s a surprise so, naturally, I can’t tell you about it right now. – Let’s go, I’ll bring you over there.”
“Okay.”
Coming out of the cable car area, they took the path that was mentioned by the worker. The path was flat, with cement. The slope was not steep at all and there were very small steps on both sides.
The street lamps were the retro kind as well and they shaped like old-fashioned gas lamps. Their color was a faint and gentle yellow and the ambiance at a night like this was wonderful.
Except that…
Gu Nian couldn’t help but shuddered.
She tried to take all factors into consideration except that she had forgotten how cold it got in the mountain at night. In the deep summer when walking into a air-conditioned room felt like heaven in the daytime but, at night, this felt like deep fall or early winter in the city.
The coldness went straight to one’s bones whenever there was a breeze.
As though recalling something, Gu Nian turned around right away.
It didn’t matter if she got sick but not Luo Xiu. Nevermind that today was his birthday. He had filming tomorrow afternoon. It would be awful to have to do that when he was sick.
She seemed to recall that Luo Xiu had a blue casual suit jacket with him when he left. That ought to be able to block some wind out…
Gu Nian and only turned around half way when she saw a shadow right up next to her. Startled, she took a step back reflexively, forgetting that she was on a downhill slope.
Even though the slope was not steep, but having missed a step, Gu Nian lost her balance and started falling backward—
While she was panicking, she felt something tightened around her waist and a force pulled her forward.
“BAM!”
After a dull noise and her nose feeling painful from the impact, Gu Nian’s fall was broken.
Under the street lamp, the two shadows overlapped with each other.
“Are you alright?”
“… …”
Gu Nian, still hazy from the impact, heard the voice coming from above her head. “I. Am fine. Thank you…”
She rubbed her nose, which was still hurting, and looked into a pair of dark-brown eyes.
She was stunned speechless all of a sudden.
This was too, too, too, too… way too close!
The street lamps casted shadows on the ground.
Luo Xiu was bending over with his head lowered. His fine dark hair covered up the corners of his eyes. Whether it was the street lights or some other causes, there seemed to have a hint of redness at the corners of his narrow eyes.
The outline of his nose was even more spectacular when looked at up close. His thin lips parted slightly and radiated a hint of redness.
As he was looking down, the distance between the two could not be any closer. It was so close that as soon as Gu Nian had looked up, she seemed to be able to feel something warm rubbed against her forehead.
Gu Nian held her breath and looked away stiffly. She looked over at the arm that was now wrapped tightly around her waist – it was because of it that the two’s bodies were almost touching right now.
Gu Nian wanted to struggle but she also didn’t want to alert Luo Xiu.
Her body stiffed, she asked softly, “Mr. Luo Xiu, you…”
“Pardon me,” said the man in a low voice. His eyes a little undefined, as those he was trying to capture the image of her. “I had taken my glasses inside the cable car and I can’t quite see clearly right now… Are you alright? Did I startle you?”
