Amy's POV

Hmm, the preparations are almost complete. Finally after weeks of training. We managed to defeat Bel. And after a week, we are ready for our first party quest! How long has it been since we last did this! In a way, I am pretty excited about it! It would be our first party excursion in a while, and...

It would also be my first fight against my former race.

While fighting humans made me a bit worried, somehow it didn't worry me too much... it is weird, even after coming here for a few years, it still affected me a lot, but ever since we reunited with Bel, I started not caring about fighting them... is it because my mind has be desensitized by Bel? But doesn't matter. It is not like this is the first time we have fought humans. Even back then we also fight other players and also bandits.

" Any idea how many enemies we would have to fight? It would be great if we have some intel of the enemies." I asked the rest of the gang.

" One hundred humans. Give or take ten humans. Though actual combatants would be 80% of it as the rest would either be laborers, messengers or just cleaners." Bel replied without any emotion as if she is talking about a roadside pebble.

" I... I see... so since it is like that, we should be prepared to ensure that we would not get surrounded. Bel would first charge in and attract as much attention as possible. While that happened, I will go in from the side along with Lucy while Petrasha from the other side, forming a pincer attack." I said as I hold Lucy's hand while Petrasha nodded from the side.

" Next, Christine should use the sniper that Bel made before and snipe the enemies from behind. Frux, Flux, and the princess should all use crossbows to pick off enemies that got singled as you three have gotten used to the crossbows." I said as the three nodded, with the princess nodding the most... princess... aren't you going to fight your fellow countrymen? Why are you so enthusiastic about it?

" Once the enemies outside of the cave have been defeated, we will then slowly push into the cave. Christine will first have to adjust her position until she can shoot inside of the cave, you three will come closer and group up with me, Lucy and Petrasha. Bel... I think this part is better explained by you." I said as I handed this to Bel. Well, I wanted to continue but Bel's eye is telling me to hand it to her... it is kinda scary...

" I will charge in, destroy the teleportation circle, then start killing from inside. The rest of you will slowly push in from the outside. If the enemy is using normal bows or firearms, then continue to push. If there is anyone that is using those anti-mana stuff, then Petrasha will bring out the shield and protect the rest of you. The shield should be able to handle their firearms but if it can, retreat immediately." Bel said.

This plan... how should I say... is more like Bel going in alone... then what is the point of the rest of us going... 

" I know what you want to say. But I will tell you this. The chance of them having anti-mana weapons and having the time to attack you is very little. They would be more likely to charge at me since I am the closest. So your task would be killing the enemies while I distract them all. Just be fast or I will take all the kills~" Bel said as she ends it with a wink... 

Urgh, when she said it like this I can't really deny her... but it just doesn't feel right that we are letting Bel risk so much while the rest of us just leech off her.

" Think of it like this. Most of you don't have any experience killing humans. This is the first time that you will be doing this. So take it slow first, and when it's better then we can cooperate better. After all, a common troupe is that otherworlders would panic when they kill someone and then get killed while they are still panicking. Right?" stop reading my mind, Bel.

" With that, I believe that is all for now. The reason why we can just directly think of the strategy is caused from our info, the base of the enemies are almost the same pattern, so the strategy against it would be the same for most of the bases. If there are any problems, we would have to think of another plan on the spot, but let's hope that it won't have to reach that point. " I said as we prepare to end this strategic meeting.

" Oh, and double-check your equipment while Petry is here~ I am sure she would be more than glad to help maintain it~," " OI," I said as we all left the room, of course, leaving an annoyed Petry. 

" So what do you think of what Bel said?" Lucy asked me as we are walking back together. Both of us have no need to let Petry maintain our weapons as we maintain our own weapons.

" To be honest, it is quite scary. While before she is the one who is in charge of charging in and distracting the enemies, but back then it's a game. Now it's reality... for her to say that so nonchalantly is kinda scary... as if she is so used to killing that she doesn't even really care anymore..." I replied honestly. Even though Bel would probably hear what I said if she is nearby, this is my true honest feelings...

" It is not like I don't understand how you feel... it's true that Bel felt more distant from us than before... but it doesn't change anything right? She is still the Bel that we know right? Well except with the additional hatred towards humans that is~" Lucy joked around. 

" Hey, I am trying to be serious here!" I retorted, but still smiled at the joke that Lucy made

" Yeah yeah, now let's go~ it will be a long day tomorrow!" Lucy said as she took my hand and drag me back to our room.

Cain's POV

In front of me are the remaining 500 soldiers from the surviving bases. Though we do leave some back to defend it. After all, if by the slim chance that we actually are able to succeed, we would still need the way back. It would all be futile if they cut off our escape route while we are doing this.

Not that I have much confidence that I will survive this fight. The same probably goes for every single person that has gathered here. Right now we are not knights of the empire... but just mere kidnappers... we originally joined the knights hoping to one day fight in a glorious battle, not to capture defenseless children and women... even if you tell me that they are demi-humans, it still won't change that the one we are kidnapping is children and women. 

What is worse is their fate after being captured. A fate worse than slavery. 

Even though some of them still claim that the demi-humans are dirty beasts, sometimes their lust still takes over their mind and they use the captives to release their lust. Some even release their pent-up anger on them. If somehow they died, then their bodies would be used to the most extent, by using the circle to drain them of their energy and crystalize it. What the emperor call as managems.

For me, I abhor the idea of using them. But sadly not everyone in the platoon shares the feeling. In fact, there is only a single person that shares the same feeling. Vice-commander Schwar.

Tomorrow, I would become the failure of the empire. I would lead 500 soldiers into their deaths. Normally, I wouldn't even want to do this. Is it because I knew that my head will roll if I didn't manage to fulfill the emperor's quota? Or is it because I know that even if the emperor doesn't kill me, I would still die to the mysterious killer that has been destroying the bases. 

Is it because I want to die of glory than get massacred by some unknown enemy. I am sure I know the answer myself, but I just don't want to face the truth.

" Soldiers of the empire!" I yelled out, getting all of their attention.

" Tomorrow we shall attack the demi-human town near this base!" I shouted out more. The soldiers are all listening closely.

" The town does not have the protection of mighty walls like those inside our empire! We will charge in, and this time, unlike what we usually do, which is just capture the small children and weak women. We will charge inside! We will fight like true men! We will prove that we, soldiers of the empire do not need to perform petty tricks to win! We will show that we are mighty! That nothing will stand in our path! We will teach these demi-humans a lesson! That we are not just some small fries that would only target the weak!" I continue to yell, but words are getting harder and harder to come out of my mouth.

I know that what I said is all false. That we do not have the capability to do this. But I have no choice. We either die on the battlefield or die in the hands of the unknown enemy. I know, that it is just my ego pushing me, but for me who aspires to be a knight... I would rather die on the battlefield than die a pitiful death. Even if it means bringing these 500 soldiers with me.

" Tomorrow right after dawn, we shall march! And we shall win! FOR THE EMPEROR!" I yelled out. The 500 soldiers yelled together. The sound was loud enough that I felt that the residents of the town might even hear us. But it doesn't matter, as tomorrow. Either we finish our goal, and successfully retire back home. Or we die in the hands of the demi-humans that we despise so much.

" How do you feel," I asked Schwar.

" If I have to say. It feels like the last party before death," he replied.

" Do you regret following me?" " No " 

" You are quite stupid, you know..." " So are you."

"That's why you haven't gotten a girlfriend in the academy." " The same goes for you too." 

As we both banter with each other. The party calmed down, and we slept probably for the last time in our lives.
