“You never told me that they were using humans as, as…”

“… Slaves, Pets, tools for their own enjoyment.” Miya finishes her statement. “What do you think happens when there’s a victor in interplanetary wars?”

“I-I don’t know! Maybe sign a peace treaty or hand over some land or something… Anything but this!”

A rectangular shadow looms over them. Miya looks up to a large hull carrier hovering above them, lugging a sizeable cluster of red glittering asteroids on its back. The craft then ascends high into the air, allowing the lights of the glittering city to cast down upon them once more.

Miya looks down at Loliel’s hand jittering within her grasp, her head bent down with a solemn look.

She seems really beat… I mean, I don’t really see the big deal. I’ve seen tons of other planets before and after their military conflicts, and this is probably one of the better outcomes, for better or worse… But I guess she does need a little pick me up, I suppose.

Miya scratches the back of her head. “You, uh… You remember the Academy place, I mentioned earlier?”

Loliel nods, her head still bent down.

“It was a horrible place, we were born from test tubes and incubation chambers, tested until we nearly died just to be pumped full of narcotics that eventually made us go numb to the pain, sometimes even enjoy it.”

Miya turns her head, glaring at the passing Ya’valtians with a hand on her holster. “I still have memories that haunt me of those days, but it’s those memories that keep me going. I cannot go back to that place. I will not give them the satisfaction of seeing me hurt despite what they did to me.”

Loliel raises her head slightly. “I see…”

Miya pulls her forward by the hand so that they could keep walking. “We musn't show them that we’re scared, or they'll just try to keep us shackled forever. So let us keep progressing while lending each other a hand, I promise never to leave your side… L-Lo… Loliel...”

Loliel raises her head with widened eyes. “That’s the first time you called me by my name.”

“Ah, well! Back in training, they instructed us not to get close to the people we were to maintain, especially on missions. But, you’re a special exception! Let’s do this together!” Miya beams.

Loliel strides to her side with a grin. “Y-yeah! Thank you for that, I needed it.”

Miya looks to the side with a smirk.

Ha ha! I’m the best at pep talks! Just wait until I get my own Patroller crew. They’re going to love me!

. . .

Miya and Loliel continue down a secluded alleyway, puddles of water splashing with their steps and the smell of diesel filling their nostrils. They then walk onto a long metal staircase, with each step glowing as they placed their foot upon it.

On the last step, they reach a circular expanse with a fountain of water spritzing high into the air, the droplets however didn’t fall but swiveled and twirled in the air, making different aquatic spheres and triangles.

They walk past the fountain and gaze up at the towering skyscraper in front of them. The bottom of the building was curved but became more straight as it shot at least fifteen hundred feet into the air, with the top floors arching into a hovering alloy space.

The building was wine-red, a broad crease was carved in the middle that created a black electro-pulse that zipped through the cleft every few moments. Amongst other holographic symbols of black circles and yellow bolts shooting across its floors, a large logo reading ‘Stravos’ in orange Ya’valtian letters circles the building.

Miya looks over to Loliel, still reveling in the alpine architecture. “That guy you were talking to, I think you should call him to say we’re here.”

Loliel nods her head, a set of holo-images appearing on her glass face mask as she glides her fingers through the air.

To think that the people they’re rebelling against is their landlord. I suppose Stravos likes to keep workers close and potential enemies closer. You wouldn’t want to mess with people who know where you eat, sleep, and shit. It kind of reminds me of the Tokugawa Shogunate from the Asian dynasties. Kept all their shoguns in the capital of Edo so they wouldn’t turn against them. A very smart trick indeed.

“... Ah! I’m so glad you made it here! Yaktsman went running after someone else’s pet and we got separated temporarily.”

Miya turns to look at Curase, and her human pet approaches them from a small blue void-like aperture a few feet away.

“It’s fine, we had the chance to look at some of the sights. The scenery is very pleasant.” Miya compliments.

Curase intertwines her hands in front of her stomach with a smile. “I’m glad you like it. You can thank the Stravos architectural team for all of this city's inhabitance.”

The screens on Loliel’s mask blink away, she then nods her head toward Miya. “He said there’s going to be a social gathering in the next few hours that we’ll be able to attend. He’ll meet us there.”

Miya yawns with an outstretched hand. “So, we about good to go now? I’m beat.”

Curase eyes widen, and she inputs a set of keys on a blue holographic pad that appears on a screen in front of her.

“I-I’m so sorry! You must be tired after your long day, please let us go.”

With a short blink, a white portal virtualizes in front of them. Miya walks through while glancing at Loliel with a nod.

Her skin tingles from the sensation of the short hyper-warp. Her eyes then blink once, gazing around at her new surroundings.

It was a spacious apartment complex with a vast white ceiling and reflective gray flooring well-lit with white electrogrids glinting above. The room dipped down into a sitting area with blue-cushion chairs at one side, while the other had a kitchen-like space with a refrigerator and microwave with operable options for different foods and beverages. The outside window surrounding the entire room gave the atmosphere of being in space, with white comets and large asteroids hurling by.

“… Y-you really came!”
