Max instantly frowned. Why was she shooting her mouth off so easily now?

Shannon stood aside, hoping that he would leave quickly.

She would recall those sad memories whenever she saw him.

Almost every day, she would think about the baby she lost. She had also lost count of the number of nights she dreamt of the painful day when she lost her baby.

“Help me find a set of clothes.” Max stared at Shannon, who was standing at the side, with his deep eyes. His tone was calm, as though ordering her around was a natural thing to do.

It was as though she should have prepared clothes for him, just as she had done so in the past.

She looked up at him with a questioning expression. What did he mean?

“I don’t have any men’s clothes here. Ask Jake to deliver some over!” Shannon rejected his order subconsciously.

Max’s furrowed brows suddenly relaxed. She didn’t have any men’s clothes here? Did that mean that she didn’t have anything to do with Pete?

“What are you thinking about? How can I wear his clothes? Go and buy me some new ones.” Max got up and approached Shannon.

He was still naked, so when he stood before Shannon, her heart raced uncontrollably.

“Didn’t I tell you? Call Jake to…”

“If you want the whole world to know that I spent the night here, you can choose not to go.” Max stretched out a hand and blocked Shannon’s body in place.

She looked up at Max with a hint of anger in her eyes.

“Don’t try to fool me. With Jake’s loyalty, how could everyone else know about this? Is toying with me such a fun thing to do?” She pushed Max hard, wanting him to leave quickly.

But the more she acted like this, the more unwilling he was to leave.

“It’s been a long time since something so fun has happened. Didn’t you say that you’re free to marry anyone? Perhaps you won’t be that free anymore, I might just come every day.” The man’s gloomy voice hovered from above her head.

Shannon’s eyes were filled with anger. She used to think that she must have saved the world in her previous life to have met a man like him, but now, she felt as though she must have owed the world too much in her previous life to have met him.

“I’ll go out and buy your clothes, but I hope you’ll mind your own business in the future. I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore.” Shannon slid out of his embrace.

Max looked at Shannon’s figure as she ran out, and a trace of happiness flashed across his heart.

He turned around and looked at the decor in Shannon’s room. It was very simple and the room lacked any form of warmth.

The shelves were filled with books about the law, some trophies, and photos of famous people.

It seemed as though she had indeed been reborn, after all these years.

Shannon walked out furiously, her eyes filled with anger.

What happened to her last night? How could she have let him into the house? And they even slept on the same bed.

The saying that drinking would cause trouble was indeed true.

“Miss, aren’t you going to get off the elevator?” Shannon was deep in thought and didn’t exit the elevator.

When she heard the reminder, she quickly got off the elevator and walked out. She took a taxi to a custom-made suit shop.

“I want a pure cotton white shirt with a silver-gray tie, as well as that navy suit. Please help me clean and iron the shirt now.” Shannon was extremely familiar with his tastes.

In less than an hour, Shannon returned to her apartment with the clothes. She stood at the door and looked at the clothes in her hands, frowning. Why couldn’t she be more ruthless to him?

Even if it was revealed that he spent the night here, she didn’t have anything to lose. Janice might even be angered to death.

“Casey, why are you out so early? Did you buy some good food? Let’s eat together!” Shannon had just opened the door when Pete suddenly came from behind her.

Before she could say anything, he walked into the house.

Shannon looked like she was about to cry. Why were all the annoying matters occurring at the same time?

When Max heard some sounds outside, he walked out of the bedroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist.

His cold eyes observed Pete. Through the unlatched door, he immediately understood that Pete and Shannon lived opposite each other.

“Casey, are you in a relationship?” Pete was surprised to witness this scene.

Shannon looked at him, not knowing how to explain. Could she say that she didn’t even know what happened because she was drunk? This was just too unbelievable.

“I was drunk last night, so I let him in. He’s going to leave soon.” Shannon explained briefly before heading upstairs and handing the clothes in her hands to Max.

Pete was so shocked that he couldn’t close his mouth. Shannon was a woman who lived a proper and clean life. This was one of the reasons why he liked her.

“Why are you at Shannon’s…”

“Go back first, I’ll explain everything another time.” Shannon didn’t know what to say, and could only push Pete out first.

Max changed into his clothes in the room and walked downstairs. Shannon sat on the sofa with a serious expression.

“Max, I’m telling you this officially. If you break into my house again, I’ll definitely sue you. Also, these clothes cost a total of thirty one thousand dollars. Remember to pay me back.” Shannon didn’t look at Max, and her voice was extremely cold.

Max frowned when he heard her tone. He hated it when she used such a tone to address him.

“I’ve left you a cheque. You can fill it up as you wish, but you’d better remember what I said. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee your best friend’s safety.” Max opened the door and left.

Shannon grabbed the pillow on the sofa and threw it at the door. She had spent three years with him, and all she was left with was pain.

And now, he was even threatening her; she was really unlucky!

She refused to listen to him. There were laws in this world. Even if he was Max Wenley, he had to follow them. Anyway, she was alone, and he was someone with a reputation to uphold.

Shannon got changed and called Pete to go to the law firm together. She had to live well from now on!

“Casey, that man—”

“He’s my ex-husband. He’s also the reason why someone was trying to kill me all these years. But Pete, you have to keep it a secret. Don’t tell anyone about it.” Since Pete finally asked Shannon about it, she could only tell him the truth.

She wasn’t intentionally hiding it from him anyway. It was just that she couldn’t find a suitable opportunity to tell him. Today, she really couldn’t keep it in anymore.

“But Casey, since he hurt you so deeply, you shouldn’t be with him anymore!” Pete was extremely agitated.

He thought that Max had stayed over because they had rekindled their love; he was extremely worried about her.

Shannon sat in the car and smiled bitterly. Why would she be with him again?

“I won’t get back together with him. In our three years of marriage, I was only a substitute. I won’t be stupid enough to be a substitute again. You don’t have to worry about me. Let’s go.” Shannon opened the car door and walked out after they had arrived..
