I may have lost it a little. Once my… lapse of consciousness passed, one of my bodies was in excruciating pain. I was lucky that I had gotten back home before whatever just happened happened. I was still trying to piece together foggy shards of memories and feelings while holding my side with both bodies- there was too much pain to stop that reaction on the unharmed me.
Far away, my other body was failing. It woke up stumbling along the path with a growing cold coming from the wound. The cold crept along my fingers, toes, and lips- causing uncontrollable shivering as my blood drained at an alarming rate. I should have been completely incapacitated from the stress and shock- but I guess my other brain was fighting that. It almost felt like a dream- a thought that made me deliriously chuckle, the cough up some of the blood pooling in my lungs. Getting up from the floor and heading down the stairs, my city body couldn’t hold in the laughter as I debated if I would die from losing blood or drowning in it first. I’m sure I looked insane, stifling laughter as I headed to the city gates, occasionally wincing at the fading pain felt through my other body.
Weirdly, the guards didn't bother stopping me as I rushed away from the city- trying desperately to rejoin myself. I knew I wouldn’t make it when my dying body lost control of their legs and started dragging themself along with pitifully weak arms. That only lasted a few more seconds before those too were lost to the cold.
Dying was a lot to process. In one body lights and sounds melded into a kaleidoscope of nonsense, as even the cold faded, leaving only a faint impression that anything existed. In the other I was fine, more than fine. I felt truly alive exerting myself to the fullest to make it to where my soon-to-be corpse was located. It was a blessing that the road was oddly empty as no one would try to stop me and no one would try to save me. Not like it mattered as my thoughts suddenly condensed into one body, much like when one of me wakes up earlier than the other.
I was able to reach my corpse, where I once again broke down at the absurdity of this mess. The fact that my primary thought was to get rid of the corpse's face before hiding it made me continue to cackle as I obliged the compulsion in much the same way I think I did earlier: a few stomps. On that note, I still couldn’t piece together what happened when I lost consciousness. My last clear memory was being ambushed by a group of thugs before I was lost in what could best be described as a void of conceptual red. I felt everything people tied to the color- passion, rage, impulsiveness, beauty, and smooth but sticky blood- before mostly blacking out..
I was broken out of my stupor by the weight of my dead body that I guess I had grabbed being reduced to nothing as it faded out in irregular chunks. In the end there was no evidence that it had ever existed besides the pile of clothes and belongings, laid out in the shape of a person. As the last spots of blood evaporated from the torn cloak, a tingling sensation enveloped my body. It was disconcerting to have your heart feel like it had butterflies trapped in it, but I spent little time on that as the feeling grew to be painful- almost like I was being split.
Well, I guess not almost- I had split back into two bodies much like before. I gave myself a toothy grin- were my teeth always that sharp looking?- before once again falling into a mad fit of now-discordant hysteria.

I reveled in the absurdity, the now useless fears, and the implications.
If this pattern held- I was immortal.
My overwhelmed brain could only laugh at the times I feared for my life.
I had heard of no Abilities granting such a power outside of myths and folktales- meaning I might be alone in the apotheosis- the only other candidate I could think of was The Headmaster.
For a moment I considered paying them a visit to check before the episode faded and with it bloodlust I hadn’t noticed. I had all the time in the world to debate what I wanted to do with this new facet of my Abilities, but there were things to do now.
I needed to dress my new self and separate before anyone came along and saw me. In the process of doing so, I noticed the scales on my lower back had spread further, reaching along my hips and up my spine in decreasing density. Similarly, some of the yellow-y scales on my feet and calves had turned a similar black to my other scales, and felt like the same material. That wasn’t a problem as I was already hiding my bird-like features anyway. As I previously noticed, my teeth were sharper- giving my smile an uncanny look if I opened it too wide. The solution was to simply not show my teeth while smiling.
The body dressed in my school clothes headed back to the city while the one dressed to be anonymous looked for where I should wait to catch the rest of my group as they came back along the road. Hopefully none of them would be too upset that I had partially ditched.
