Chapter 2: A thought, an idea, a dream

Life as we know it was dying. Slowly, but that is what we were heading to the end. I did not mind, just like the billions of others. It was not a problem for us to solve. It was something our descendants would have to figure out. By the time it affected any us, we would be long dead. At that time, life as we know, it will cease to exist.

Was there a way to stop it? Honestly, I am not too sure. I am not intelligent, creative, or ambitious. I am merely your average guy that is intrigued by the world. I like finding out interesting facts I did not know. Such as how currency, as we know it today, came to be. Does anyone else know? It is pretty interesting, and I doubt the know-how is all that known.

'The traders of Morocco speak...'

This is me, a young man in his early twenties listening to someone speak of past life events. As the voice entered into my ears, I listened as my eyes gazed out the window up towards the stars that lit up the night sky. The bumps the bus was going over did not bother me, nor did the small chatter of those right behind me. It was just me, this voice, and my thoughts. I always wondered how life was back then. Historians can mostly speculate and never get the facts down, just write.

For me, I have crazy fantasies of being in those time periods, living my life. Sometimes dream leads me down the path of a noble lord, other times, I'm simply a farmer slaving away under the hot sun trying to make enough to feed my family. Whatever the case may be, I am content with that. There is nothing special I want to do.

However, I do have thoughts such as, what if people discovered oil early on in life? What if the idea of paper money started much earlier? What if industries ran off of resources that were safer for the environment? What if technology had a major boom in the past? There are so many what if's I have in my head that I can think about it for the entire day. That is just how I am.

Even if I could go to the past, what could I do? I mean, what would anyone do? Everyone says they would do this if they returned in time. But could you actually do it? Let's say you are me, a normal person that isn't specialized in any field nor have the knowledge needed in agriculture, science, law, etc. What could you do in the past?

Our language would do so much different compared to our ancestors that we could not even communicate with them. Life back then was rough, many of us would fold on the first day.

As my gaze was locked on the world outside this window, I saw it. Something flying through the sky leaving behind a streak of light for a moment. Then there was another and another. I realized what this was a second later.

When I was young, I was always told, that if you make a wish upon a shooting star, your wish will come true. I never believed it, but that never stopped me from making a wish, just like everyone else. So, I closed my eyes and took my thought, my idea, and my dream together. If I wanted to wish for something, then this was it.
