After the short conversation about Ellie, Jenna’s entire mood turned around that night. She was her usual sweet and attentive self, even offering to rub his back after they got something to eat. Later on, she broached the subject again, only to offer an apology.
“I just want to say that I’m sorry about being crazy earlier. About Ellie,” said Jenna when Alex gave her an odd look. “I just know that Ellie is a flirt and she’s been laying it on thick with you lately. It bugs me a little. You know I don’t have the best track record when it comes to men, and I definitely realize I have trust issues but I shouldn’t extend my baggage to you. You’ve never done anything to me to deserve that.”
Alex wasn’t sure what was worse—that fact that he lied to her, or the fact that she was apologizing about something she was right about. His stomach twisted into a knot.
“Anyway, I just want to say thank you for being patient with me,” said Jenna, kissing him tenderly. “And I promise I’ll make it up to you very soon. Maybe something that both makes us happy.”
She threw him a little wink, leaving no doubt about what she was thinking. It would have been sexy had the guilt not already been on his conscience.
Unfortunately, any thoughts about having that passion were quickly shelved when a call came in from Annette asking them to join her and Ellie in their unit. Annette didn’t say what it was for but Alex could guess it had something to do with the elections. They showed up a short while later and made their way inside, finding both women setting up several parallel rows of chairs in front of a makeshift podium.
“Uh, what are you two doing?” asked Alex, looking at all the chairs. “This doesn’t look like a very fun party.”
Annette started to laugh. “Not a party whatsoever but thanks, Alex. Don’t you remember? I was telling you that you two will need to give a speech as part of being a candidate. You need to announce yourself to the citizenry of Vesta and tell them what you’ll be working toward as a member of the Council. I thought we might get started on speech planning tonight.”
“Public speaking?” asked Jenna, turning white from the start. “You’re joking, right?”
“If you’re going to be on the Council, you’re going to have to get used to it,” said Ellie. “It’s part of the job.”
“But I know nothing about public speaking,” replied Jenna, taking a step back. “I don’t even know if I want to do that.”
“We’re going to coach you and help you with your speeches,” announced Annette. “Everyone has to start somewhere, right? We’re going to help you get off on the right foot. With a good speech in hand, the people of Vesta will love you.”
“And I have no doubt what you have to offer will be leagues better than anything Serrano can offer them,” added Ellie. “This won’t be a big deal whatsoever.”
“Okay then, let’s get started,” said Alex. “Where do we begin?”
As it turned out, Ellie and Annette had a rather innovative approach to teaching. Using their P-coms, they generated a hologram audience to fill all the chairs, allowing some semblance of a crowd to witness the first speeches. Alex wasn’t accustomed to public speaking either, but he managed to get down the first speech (which was nothing more than a short paragraph detailing his life before coming to Vesta) without too much trouble.
On the other hand, Jenna wasn’t nearly as smooth. She frequently stumbled over her words and her face stayed a bright red throughout the entire thing. It didn’t take much to see that she was going to need most of the work.
“Okay, the secret to getting over your nerves is just repetition,” said Annette, trying her best to help. “The more times you give your speech, the smoother it’ll become. When you can practically recite the words from memory, you’ll have much more confidence when you get behind the podium. Talking to crowds just gets easier with more experience.”
Jenna gave it the old college try but after an hour of practicing, she became burnt out. On one particular speech while she was explaining what she would bring to Vesta as a councilor (a speech written by Annette), she stumbled and dropped her notes.
“This is absolutely pointless,” said Jenna as her frustration boiled over. “I’m never going to be able to give speeches in public. I don’t know why you’re wasting your time on me!”
With those words, Jenna stormed out of the unit as Annette tried to call out to her.
“Jenna, just wait. We can help you!”
It soon became obvious that Jenna and Annette weren’t coming back immediately, leaving Alex with Ellie.
“She’s being really hard on herself,” said Ellie, taking a sip of wine that was on the table. “It takes time to become a good public speaker. I think of the first hundred speeches that I had to give and they were terrible. I had the exact same problem that she has. Annette as well.”
“Jenna is really hard on herself,” said Alex. “She hasn’t had the best experiences in life so far and it shows. She’s just going to need a little more time.”
“Time is one thing we don’t have,” replied Ellie. “Elections are in less than a week. It’s imperative that we get two of our people on the Council, for my sake if nothing else.”
“We will,” said Alex firmly. “Whatever happens, we’re not going to let Belladonna get her way. You’re not going to be exiled again or worse.”
Ellie shot him a sideways grin. “I wish you were here before I was exiled. I could have used your help in preventing it from happening in the first place. If the Council had one ounce of your resolve, we wouldn’t be in such a terrible position in the first place.”
“Be careful what you wish for,” said Alex, chuckling. “You might be singing a different tune if I get on the Council. Remember, I don’t have any experience with politics so I’m not always going to know the best course of action there.”
Ellie started to shake her head. “I really doubt that, Alex. You have good instincts. Sure, you might be politically new but I think your heart’s in the right place. That’s why I think this is a good idea. You belong on this council. And I’m going to show the rest of Vesta what I see.”
“You really think we can make a difference?”
Ellie nodded. “I remember a time when Vesta wasn’t just the beleaguered colony that it is now. When I was much younger and my father still sat on the Council, there was a lot of hope for Vesta. This was before the bears came, and while we never had much in the way of money, there was always the idea that we could make this planet the home we always knew it could be. It’s changed a lot since then. The bears brought out the worst of us, traits like malice and greed. If we can truly unite ourselves behind a strong Council, I think there’s no limit to what we can achieve. And maybe we can revisit those glory days.”

“It won’t be easy,” warned Alex. “But that does sound really great to me. It’s a reminder of why I came here.”
Ellie smiled at him right as Alex’s P-com went off. A hologram of Annette appeared in front of them.
“Hey, I’m going to need some more time,” said Annette, gesturing behind her.
“Did you find Jenna?” asked Alex.
“I found her all right,” replied Annette. “I talked her into having a drink with me. I think I can make some progress here just one on one but I wanted to let you both know so that you weren’t waiting up.”
“Thanks, Annette, we appreciate you,” said Ellie as the call ended.
“Well, I guess Annette has things covered,” said Alex before standing up and moving toward the podium once more. “Do you want to go through another practice run? I’d like to try something more real this time.”
Apparently, Ellie had different plans. She’d gotten up behind him and followed him to the podium, waiting until he’d turned around before she flung herself into his arms and kissed him passionately.
“Ellie, where did that come from?” he asked once the kiss broke.
Ellie gave him a hungry look. “I couldn’t wait any longer. I’ve been wanting to do that since we kissed that first night. I’ve been wanting more, much more.”
“Ellie, we can’t,” said Alex, remembering what he told Jenna that afternoon. “Jenna is—”
“Jenna is preoccupied with my cousin,” finished Ellie. “They won’t be back anytime soon. Please, Alex. I want you. Almost every night, I go to bed and do you know what I do? My hand always finds its way between my legs. And I always start thinking about the same person—you. And I just get so wet. I always have an amazing orgasm thinking about your body against mine. About you putting your cock inside me. I haven’t forgotten what it looks like, not since that day by the river.”
“Ellie, we need to stop,” said Alex as he felt his body betraying him. Every successive word out of Ellie’s mouth was having an effect. His pants were getting tighter by the second.
“We don’t have to stop,” whispered Ellie, rubbing her body against his. “Just tell me you don’t want me. Tell me you haven’t thought about being inside me.”
“Ellie,” he warned one last time. “We can’t do this.”
“We can,” she insisted. “And let me show you how good it can be.”
With those words, Ellie wasted little time in dropping his pants and freeing his cock. Alex’s eyes rolled to the back of his head as her hands wrapped around his shaft and she let out a little moan in the process. Not content to just use her hands, Ellie sank to her knees and quickly wrapped her mouth around the tip.
“Holy fuck, Ellie,” swore Alex, watching her slide more of him in her mouth. “That feels so fucking incredible.”
“Mhmm,” moaned Ellie before pulling him out temporarily. “I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now.”
She surely meant it as she attacked his manhood with a heavy passion. For the next ten minutes, Ellie deployed every trick that she knew, even deepthroating him at one point. The best thing about the whole experience was watching her eyes—those sultry blue-green eyes that silently begged him to fill her mouth with his seed.
She got her wish moments later. Alex tried to warn her in case she didn’t want a mouthful but Ellie simply redoubled her efforts, taking down every drop of cum once his orgasm hit.
“Mmm, mmm,” moaned Ellie, milking the tip with her mouth. She waited until she got the last drop before swallowing it. “Yummy.”
“Goddamn, Ellie, that was incredible,” said Alex, gripping the podium to help him remain upright.
Ellie stood up and wrapped her arms around his neck. “If only we had more time, we could do other things. But I wanted to leave you with something to remember me by tonight.”
“Trust me, that’s going to be a very hard thing to forget.”
Ellie giggled. “Anytime you need me, I’m here for you.” She then lowered her voice. “And Jenna doesn’t even have to know.”
The sudden mention of Jenna’s name put the guilt right back into his stomach. At that moment, Alex felt tiny. He’d been trying to protect Jenna by staying true to her and now he’d gone behind her back with Ellie. Not to mention, it was the one person that Jenna didn’t want him to be interested in.
Needless to say, his footsteps were heavy as he left Annette’s unit that evening.
What the hell was he going to do about Jenna now?
