Wizards can be tricky, the most annoying people you’ll ever meet. They have their own language and their own ideas and it's hard to understand them sometimes but they do it. They think about things in ways that are beyond the scope of human understanding; they're not like us. They don't understand us because there's something inside our soul that says they can't; we just aren't built to understand. And we don't try to understand them. We never understand them because if we do then it's too late. There's something inside them that makes them special, made them different. It takes away our humanity, takes away our reason for living.
This is why I never let myself get close to wizards. The fact that some even talk to me makes me uncomfortable, as does the fact that I don't have friends other than Celeste. My childhood friend, the princess and a wizard...well, that was an experience. Celeste was one of my only friends at school, she's still the person I go to when I need someone. She always knows what to say. What to do.
-
The day after the first meeting of the Royal Wizard Academy, I ran into her. She was sitting on one of those fancy chairs she always sat on, reading a book. The sun was shining brightly through the windows that were facing the courtyard, making her light blonde hair glow as she concentrated on something. She didn't notice me coming towards her until I was right behind her.
"Hey there." I greeted with a small wave. She looked up from her book immediately, almost dropping it when she saw me standing there.
"O-oh Merlin! You scared me!" She said as she stood up and put away her book.
"Sorry," I laughed softly.
"I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going anyway. But how did you know I was here?" She asked as she took out her bag, looking for the book she had dropped.
"I heard you walking here," I replied, taking a seat next to her on the chair. "How long have you been waiting for me?"
She shrugged and gave me a nervous smile as an answer. "Umm...a while I guess?"
"And what did you read this time?" I teased her, causing her face to light up.
"Oh nothing much. Just some stuff about dragons, magic, and wizards..." She sighed sadly. "They're so boring."
"Well yeah, that's kinda the point of this whole thing isn't it?" I responded. "You'll never understand wizards unless you've experienced them, otherwise you won't get to live life like a normal human."
Her face got serious, and I could tell something was off. She opened her mouth to reply but instead spoke in a calm tone. "Are your parents okay with you attending?"
My eyebrows rose slightly. This wasn't exactly what I had expected her to say.
"No," I said quietly. "My parents thought I was crazy. I don't think they really liked me since they left me here alone."
"Really? Why is that?" She asked curiously. I shrugged again and glanced down at my feet, kicking my shoes around.
"I don't know. I don't think anyone does." I sighed and pushed my glasses back up my nose. "But they don't come visit anymore. That's another reason why I came here, actually."
Celeste gave me a sad look and reached out to touch my hand. "Do you want to stay with me?" She asked quietly, squeezing my hand gently. "It's no problem. We'll figure something out."
"I couldn't." I shook my head and smiled weakly. "What would I do? Sit around all day? Reading books? Doing chores?"
"Yeah, you could!" She countered, pulling me closer by my hand to give me a hug. I chuckled awkwardly and hugged her back. She held on tight, refusing to release me. "At least come see us once every couple of weeks! Or just come with me and my brother! That way we'd really know you're alright!"
We remained silent for a few minutes, enjoying the feeling of each others' arms around us. She pulled away and smiled at me, giving me a warm smile I hadn't seen in awhile.
"Just...don't stay too late alright?" She whispered.
I nodded and smiled at her again. We went back to watching the sunlight shine on the trees before a knock on the door broke us apart. I frowned and walked slowly over to the door, opening it just enough to reveal one of the palace servants.
"Your majesty, Lord Soren has arrived for the dinner party tonight."
"Tell him I'm busy." I closed the door and turned back to Celeste. "He needs to wait until tomorrow."
"Is everything alright?" She tilted her head slightly and put both hands on my shoulders. I shrugged and sighed again.
"Maybe...but it doesn't matter. Let's just go inside, okay? I don't want any more delays today." She nodded and we headed back inside. She told me I needed to wear a tie which I agreed to quickly.
When Celeste told me to dress formally for dinner I thought of a pair of dark grey trousers with black knee high boots and a white shirt. After that I decided to wear my usual grey scarf and jacket along with a red pocket square, a green vest, and a black bowtie. I also had my hair curled and sprayed with hairspray, I looked a bit silly but I knew Celeste wouldn't mind. When I stepped out of my room a few moments later, she was waiting on the couch with her arms crossed and a scowl on her lips. Her eyes widened when she realized who I was.
"Merlin." She groaned and covered her eyes with her hand. "Why are you wearing such clothes?! I mean why not just go in regular clothes?!"
I frowned and took a step towards her. "They're nice aren't they? And the colors clash with my complexion."
She lowered her hand and stared at me for a few seconds, her expression changing from disgust to surprise and confusion in less than a second. "Merlin, have you lost your mind?" She exclaimed. "There's no way Lord Soren will like seeing you in those! He'll think you're a clow-"
"Relax," I interrupted her rambling. "I'll make sure to look better than the rest."

She let out a sigh and rubbed her forehead with her fingers, probably to ease the headache forming behind her eyes. "Don't mess this up, okay?"
"I won't." I smiled and walked past her, heading towards the door.
"Please, just keep your distance!" I heard her scream before I walked out. I closed the door behind me and made my way through the castle to the entrance, smiling widely and waving to the people around me. They returned my greetings and bowed to me. I didn't care that I was wearing strange clothes, they were all formal anyway. At last I reached the double doors that led outside and stepped outside. Lord Soren was already there, standing beside his horse and waiting for me. As soon as I spotted him, I started running towards him, jumping onto my horse's back without even trying to tame it.
Soren raised his eyebrow and waited until he felt comfortable on the horse before mounting his as well.
"Where are we going now?" I asked with an excited smile on my face.
Soren simply smirked and started trotting towards the main gate. I laughed silently and leaned forward on the neck of my horse, grabbing its reins tightly. A minute passed and we were already riding through the forest.
"Soren? Where are we going?" I asked again.
Soren didn't respond. His gaze was focused on the road ahead of us, leaving me confused and confused. It was starting to get dark, and it wasn't helping that the wind was picking up and it seemed like the rain was going to start pouring down at any moment.
"Soren." I called once more. "Are you ignoring me?"
Suddenly a branch on the side of the road caught my eye. Suddenly everything fell into place, and I understood. I jumped down from my horse and walked towards the broken tree branches that were lying in front of my path. I bent down and grabbed one of the larger pieces of wood from the ground.
"Wait." A voice stopped me in my tracks, causing me to freeze in my spot.
Slowly I turned my head around to look at who was behind me. There stood Soren on his horse, staring straight at me. The same intense gaze he usually had whenever someone challenged him, although not directed at me, I still found it unnerving. I swallowed nervously and took a step backwards.
"Soren-"
Before I could finish my sentence he jumped down from his horse and walked towards me, putting both of his hands firmly on my waist. I froze underneath his touch, not wanting to move for fear that if I did that he might just take me back home and force me to be with my family.
"Let's make a deal," he said with a slight smirk and pulled me closer to him, forcing me to stand completely on my tip toes so that I could look him in the eyes. "Don't tell anyone about what you are going to see. Even Celeste."
"Okay." I nodded hesitantly. "Deal."
He nodded and released me from the grip he had. "Good."
"Ready?"
"Yes sir." I replied softly.
As if sensing the uneasiness of the situation, he smiled lightly and mounted his horse again. He turned around and looked at me with concern in his eyes.
"Are you ready?"
Without hesitation I nodded and climbed onto my horse as well.
The ride to the castle felt endless, I wanted to run. My stomach churned with nervousness and I was shaking slightly. The cold air hit me mercilessly and the rain continued to pour.
Eventually we finally arrived at the gates to the castle, where many guards were lined up outside, keeping watch on the city. The guard on duty recognized Soren and waved politely. His partner approached us from a short distance away. "You're early," he greeted politely. Soren nodded in acknowledgement and dismounted his horse. I followed him, holding his hand tightly as my heart skipped beats.
"I brought company." Soren gestured towards me as we got off our horses.
The man's eyes immediately landed on me. His expression changed instantly into shock and recognition. I noticed a glint of pain in his dark brown eyes.
"Merlin."
He bowed his head towards me and I returned his gesture stiffly. Soren rolled his eyes before turning to face me with a frown on his face. "If you have nothing else important to do today just follow me, alright? If you have problems with anything, please talk to the King about them." With that he walked back towards the castle. The guard watched him leave, then turned to me.
"How have you been, my prince?"
"Fine. I'm good." I nodded and tried hard not to show how anxious I actually was, and the guard gave me a sympathetic smile.
"Come on, follow me." He offered me his hand and helped me climb down the fence. Once I was safely on the other side, he held out his arm and began leading me through the corridors, taking me directly to his quarters where he instructed me to wait for a while before he came to speak with me. I sat down on one of the couches by the window as he left, letting my thoughts wander to the memory of what had happened. I couldn't believe it. After all this time I'd never really expected something like this to happen.
I was going to be fucked by the older brother of my love!
