Chapter 2: It’s Cold

After the incident, Lu Chen remained calm most of the time. As the researchers examined his vital signs, they could finally set their mind at ease.

Anthony never allowed anyone to bring any metal products into the room, not because he was worried about electromagnetic interference or anyone harming Lu Chen. It was because he understood how dangerous this young man could be.

The cage designed by a renowned mechanical engineer wasn’t flawless. It was designed in a way that any force exerted by the prisoner in the cage would be distributed evenly so that the person could never break free from it.

However, if there was any external force, such as an ultra hard object crashing into the cage at a certain angle at full speed, the cage might crack in an instant. Certainly, it would be difficult to achieve that. Even a physics professor with the best computer in the world had to spend a few days to come up with the best way to go about it.

Nevertheless, Anthony was a careful man, so he would never leave such an important matter to fate. Moreover, he knew that as a Mystic Warrior from the East, Lu Chen was a master of mechanics himself. Therefore, even though he knew he would offend the esteemed woman, he would not allow her to bring any metal objects into the room.

Meanwhile, Lu Chen remained cool-headed as he waited for the best chance.

Anthony had overestimated Lu Chen because he wasn’t good at mathematics, so it was impossible for him to compute the best angle for any object to crash into the cage externally. However, he was also underestimated in certain areas as he never required any scientific knowledge to deal with his opponents. All he needed were his combat experience and instincts.

Metal objects weren’t even necessary for him. As long as it was a high-quality and bouncy object, it was good enough for him—just like the silicone bead lying on the floor.

The clock struck 5:30AM,  by now the guards were mostly exhausted and sleepy. Under the cool white light, Lu Chen opened his eyes slowly.

As he took a deep breath, the oxygen got into his lungs, causing his heart to pound faster against his chest, the speed at which his blood flowed to accelerate, and his body temperature to rise.

At that moment, all of his vital signs were going North. It was as though he was a polar bear that was about to awaken from hibernation. The process was slow, so the alarm system wasn’t triggered as his vital signs were not changing swiftly.

At the breaking point, Lu Chen drew a deep breath as his blood started running rapidly. It was like an erupting volcano that was about to engulf everything with its lava.

At that moment, his heart rate rose from 50 beats per minute to 180 beats per minute. Suddenly, he regained most of his energy as his muscles began bulging and tightening. In an instant, the iron coffin protruded at a level never seen before. Apparently, it was about to explode.

As the alarm started ringing out, Lu Chen let out a breath and exerted more force with his muscles. Upon impact, the silicone bead on the floor crashed into the wall before coming right at the arching coffin. Due to its limited mass, the bead only brought with it 1N of force.

Just like the arrow of fate, it was about to shatter the iron coffin. It wasn’t a loud crash, so the sound was barely audible. At that instant, the iron coffin was like a snow-covered mountain top, which came crashing down upon shouting.

After all the titanium parts disintegrated, the young man got to his feet as his long black hair flapped in the air. At that moment, it was as though a demon had been born into this world, and the alarm sounded like a worship song for him.

“Electrocute him and release the poisonous gas!” The director of the security room had noticed that the iron coffin was protruding, but before he could give the order, Lu Chen had broken free from it.

Yellow gas started dispersing into the room. The floor, including the platform Lu Chen was on, was now electrified with the high voltage current. However, it was too late. Lu Chen had realized that the platform he was on could be electrified, so the moment he broke free from the coffin, he did a backflip and stepped on the wall.

Perhaps the designer of this room was overly confident of himself, so he only installed a poisonous gas system on the walls without any high voltage current. As soon as Lu Chen stepped on the wall, his knees bent as the muscles on his calves bulged.

In an instant, the wall started cracking as he launched himself toward the round iron door. While he was in the air, he clenched his fist and exerted more force with his arm.

As his blood scattered in the air, the iron door flew away and crashed into the wall in the corridor. Upon impact, the entire base shook. The door was hard, but the wall wasn’t solid enough.

Lu Chen clenched at the door frame and swung himself out of this room that had imprisoned him for almost two years. When he moved his neck, his bones started cracking. His body had become stiff after a long time of inactivity. His right hand was still bleeding, but he didn’t mind it. Even though he was now surrounded by soldiers with rifles in their hands, he was unfazed.

Outside the base, the two soldiers, who were standing guard, watched as Anthony led his soldiers into the base. Although they were shocked, they wouldn’t dare to follow him as they remained on the spot.

The sounds of alarm and gunfire intertwined as though it was a symphony. The two soldiers outside the base couldn’t help but start trembling. Five minutes later, no more fire shots could be heard as the alarm remained annoyingly loud.

With Beretta rifles in their hands, they waited for a while more before they mustered enough courage to get in. Just then, footsteps unique to military boots could be heard from inside the base, so they heaved a sigh of relief.

It must be General Anthony. He walks in a calm way, so the problem must have been settled. We should have killed that man a long time ago and stopped wasting time in this remote place.

“General—” Just when Corey turned around and was about to perform a military salute, he caught himself. Indeed, the man before his eyes was clad in a military uniform and boots as he ambled out of the base, but he wasn’t Anthony.

Another soldier, Brian, was smoking a cigarette when he saw that, so he opened his mouth in disbelief as the cigarette dropped to the ground. We’re doomed! they thought.

Seeing that the young man was raising his hand, Corey didn’t even attempt to lift his rifle. Those dead soldiers in the base were armed to the teeth, but they only had Beretta rifles in their hands now.

However, it was their inaction that saved their lives. Without trying to kill them, Lu Chen took the cigarette box and lighter from Brian before he walked past them. After placing a cigarette between his lips, he stared at the rising sun and falling snow. As he puffed out the smoke, he said dispassionately, “It’s cold.”
