Chapter 22: Golden Irises and Class

With taking a shower as an excuse, Lu Chen used the syringe. Immediately, the syringe vanished, and he was astounded by that.

Since he thought only about the Mystic Blood, he didn’t mind the quality of the syringe. Besides, according to the system’s suggestions, there were certainly other ways to obtain Bloodline Artifacts.

As he got on his bed, he could feel the silent alterations in his body. Starting from his spine, numbness dispersed throughout his entire body. If it wasn’t for his endurance, he would have rolled on the ground in discomfort instead of staying still in bed.

Then, the night passed without a word. Before the sun rose, two spots of dim light lit up in the shady bedroom.

Initially, the minuscule spots of light were of a shade of subtle goldenness, barely visible in his pupils.

And with this, Lu Chen discovered a way to change the color of his eyes by triggering his lineage. Another interesting fact he found out was how the Mystic Blood in him could be triggered the same way.

In the dark, the golden light began to intensify as the hue turned more magnificent, converting into a crimson-gold tone, just like that of flowing lava.

“452 B.C., Attila’s army invaded Northern Italy as the clumps of dragon knights marched through Padus. It was a frenzy, but a dignified one…”

At the podium, the lector enunciated the contents of the textbook out loud.

As the intimidating timbre thundered the room, the students felt as if they were in the scenes of an epic poem rather than a class. So immersed were the students that they could smell the air of a battleground.

Then, the lector stood up straight, presenting the shape of his abdominal muscle through his tailor-made suit. At the sight of that, the students speculated that he could have been a model with biceps that could hold an entire town up.

With his snowy hair neatly combed in addition to the monocle sported before his left eye, he appeared extremely classy. Donning a chivalric smile, the man showed not a hint of old age on his boney mug. Rather, as if a Bordeaux stored for decades, he got even more beguiling as he aged.

Hilbert Ron Anjou.

People who didn’t know the truth couldn’t have figured out that he was in fact thirteen decades old.

Indubitably, if Chancellor Anjou were to attend a prom of some sort, the hearts of wealthy ladies would flutter. Rather than fading over time, his charisma gradually grew.

Kinship of the Dragonborn—an essential to the freshmen. With Anjou as the lecturer, no student would dare to skip the classes.

As to the validity of the content of the class, even Lu Chen, who wasn’t a native to the world, could tell how ridiculous it would be just by reading the texts in the books.

According to the texts, humans didn’t learn to utilize fire through evolution and instinct for eons, nor did they receive guidance from Suiren and Prometheus. Instead, the Dragonborns taught them how to utilize fire and other utensils.

Meanwhile, Attila, leader of the Huns, was also a dragon and was speculated to be the king of the dragons. As such, he was so powerful that no one in Rome could fend him off.

Moreover, when the emperors of China claimed to be dragons themselves, they were actually telling the truth. Some of them were even dragons of mixed lineage.

Even more absurd was how the book claimed all of the above as factual.

Originally, Lu Chen wasn’t at all interested in cultural studies, but he started to take a liking to it thanks to Chancellor Anjou’ humor. Besides, he found it necessary to study the history of this world in order to better expect what threat would come his way.

Beside Lu Chen was Chu Zihang, a well-behaved student who had always paid full attention to lectures and was constantly jotting down notes during classes.

Observing his behavior, Lu Chen had already started planning to beg Chu Zihang for help if he were to “fall short” during their finals.

“…and that’s all for today.”

Glancing at his pocket watch, Anjou announced recess as he was never the one to extend his classes.

“Stay back for a bit, Lu Chen.”

Instantly, Lu Chen, who expected a free meal from Chu Zihang in the cafeteria, halted his steps as he wondered why his name was called.

At the same time, the other freshmen proceeded to behave regularly. As they expected, it was natural for the chancellor to take an interest in the first Grade S student to enter Cassell College after such a long time.

Tactfully, the rest of the students left the class as no one dared to eavesdrop on their exchange.

“What is it, Chancellor?”

When he finally faced the senile lector alone, he could feel Anjou’ menacing aura.

Astounded was Lu Chen to experience such pressurizing aura from a living creature for the first time. With his sharp instinct, he could tell that the chancellor was more than a threat to him.

In that instant, Lu Chen recalled Finger’s information about Chancellor Anjou’s kotodama.

To Anjou, bullets were merely harmless pebbles as he could easily cut it as well as the caster in half, all in a split second. When Lu Chen came back to his senses, he noticed that the chancellor was already sipping on his glass of wine. It was as if he wasn’t swallowing the alcohol, but his overbearing menace.

Sharing a space with him felt like being in the same room with a King’s assassin—every person’s neck was at the tip of his blade.

Even Lu Chen understood that was not even the best Anjou could do. If there was a need for it, he could have done the same thing at ten times the speed.

And that was why he intended to imitate the Split Second kotodama. Despite that, he was fully aware that he could only dodge bullets, not race with them. Hence, he stood no chance against Anjou.

“How’s everything in college?”

Anjou did not inquire about assignments nor did he lecture Lu Chen for his inattentiveness during his lecture. Rather, with a tone so benign, he asked about Lu Chen’s experience in college, expressing concern like how a senior would to his junior.

“Everything is good. My peers are welcoming, and the classes are easy to understand.”

Indeed, Lu Chen was content with everything, except for alchemy and mech classes where he always dozed off.

No matter how smart he was, enrolling into alchemy was equivalent to signing an infant up for university—there was no way he would master it. Besides, he showed no intention to start from the basics. In fact, he would rather skip the class and slay some dragons.

In response, Anjou nodded his head as he smirked. Truth be told, he had already heard about how Lu Chen had never received any formal education. Since having been accepted as a pupil in the dojo, Lu Chen was only taught some basic languages and mathematics for survival. He spoke Mandarin as his mother tongue and learned some English through his travels with his master. After settling down in a place to live in, he learned a bit of Vietnamese.

Knowing all this, Anjou was worried about whether Lu Chen could keep up with his studies. Although the things they taught at Cassell College were different, they would still require a certain level of foundation to be grasped—alchemy and mechanics were good examples for this case.

However, even though Lu Chen had some struggles in his performance, he could partly understand the contents in most of the rather advanced lectures, not that he didn’t receive help from Chu Zihang for his assessments. Perhaps his bloodline privileges were of help as it was apparent that Lu Chen was indeed an intelligent one.

“Anything else?”

Anjou quizzed with a beam.

“Also, the free counter in the cafeteria was superb!”

After pondering for a while, Lu Chen proudly praised.

At once, Anjou lost the smile on his face as he recalled Lu Chen’s nickname—The Big Eater. Even the cafeteria’s managerial staff had already filed a report titled “Limitations on the Free Counter” that was currently placed on his office desk.
