"Tsk tsk tsk," Leo praised. "I've found that you, woman, just love to push dangerous boundaries, not at all afraid of breaking a leg. Do you think I'm Yao Chen? Wake up."
"Yao Chen is the character you made, so no matter how much you probe him, as long as it doesn't endanger his life he'll tolerate you. You're too used to thinking that you're the heroine!"
"So what if it's breaking the law? What am I doing that isn't illegal, hahaha, what do you think you're going to do to me? Don't forget, your little life is in my hands!"
"You're trying to negotiate with me again, aren't you? I know you! Don't even think about it! Have you figured out your present situation? Do you know what you are?"
Han Yanyan stared blankly at the space's white light. She understood.
There were obviously laws in Leo's world, and wherever there were laws, there should be human rights. But not for her. Her life was in someone else's hands. She had no personal freedom, no contact with the outside world, no ability to cry out for help.
She was a slave that Leo had kidnapped.
She quietly changed her tune. "No, I was just curious. What on earth are you doing with this illegal technology? Do you have a grudge against Yao?"
"Oh please, how could I possibly be dumb enough to make enemies with that sort of big shot?" Leo answered. "He's a customer, nothing more. I'm getting paid for this."
One of her guesses had been overturned, and the truth had gone in another direction. So that's how it was.
"What's wrong with this Yao? Is he in a coma? A vegetable? Does he need to be woken up?" she asked.
"No," said Leo, "He's dead."
Han Yanyan remembered her passion with Ding Yao and her intimacy with Yao Chen. She froze, every hair on her body standing upright.
"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!" Leo could see her reaction quite clearly, down to even the goosebumps on her arms. He roared with laughter.
"Are you lying to me?" she asked, relieved.
"You're fucking killing me," Leo said. "Thanks to you being so interesting, I'll instill a little common sense in your head."
"There are three forms of medical judgment of human death: physical death, brain death and spiritual death," he said, "That fellow is in the last category. All his bodily functions are still running. He's probably healthier than you. How's that? Feel a bit better?"
"If his body is still alive, why was he judged dead?" Han Yanyan asked.
"When a person dies, even if the body is cremated, their source of spiritual power can continue to exist. So long as it is properly preserved, it can even last forever. But unlike when they were alive, a dead man's spiritual source is closed," Leo said. "However, in certain circumstances there are no issues with the body and brain, but for whatever reason the spiritual source closes itself off and it becomes basically impossible for the person to wake up again. This is why spiritual death is also a form of death. However, the families of those who have died of brain death and spiritual source closure often aren't able to accept it. They always think that their loved ones are still alive..."

"So you're using this prohibited technique to stimulate the person whose spiritual source is closed, with the intent of reviving them?"
"The success rate of resurrection isn't high. Most of my work is about speaking to the departed."
"The departed, the dead…" Han Yanyan considered. "What's the difference?"
"The bodies of the dead are still there, breathing and moving. The departed have no body; their spiritual source is preserved by a special technology."
"And Yao..."
"Is dead. He's still breathing."
Hearing that Yao was still breathing made Han Yanyan feel much better.
"What about Qiao Wenxing?" she asked. "Who is he?"
"Him? I've told you before, you just don't remember. He's also dead," Leo said. "He's just like the character you built for him - a rich young master. The young master fell in love with a poor girl and gave her his whole heart, but then the girl ran away with the break-up money given to her by his parents. Unable to take the blow, the young master committed suicide."
"But he was successfully resurrected. Thanks to being a man with a weak spirit and a weak will, he had the highest probability of success. I knew you could handle him, hehe."
"Did you earn a lot of money?"
Leo snorted.
"If he could be resurrected, why haven't I been successful with Yao?" Han Yanyan asked.
A corner of Leo's mouth quirked. "Can you possibly compare him to that sort of pampered young master?"
"That fellow is of genuine Yadra Mijin Futai blood, the 15th generation of Ares the Great, member of a true royal family, 11th in line to the imperial throne, a very capable SS-rank spiritualist. Endless assets from birth. Why, his territory is bigger than some smaller countries!"
What a long list of titles. Han Yanyan really wanted to say "Cool!1", but she needed more information. She bit her lip and endured patiently.
"But this fellow is nuts! He's of royal blood! A regular duke! And now he's the leader of the anti-government armed forces! Fucking hell, a member of the royal family trying to overthrow the monarchy!" Leo got angrier and angrier the more he talked. "Damn it, if he doesn't want to be a prince, I do! Is it so bad to eat, drink and lie around?! Is it so bad? Is it so bad?!?!"
If he had been standing in front of Han Yanyan, his saliva would have sprayed her face.
