Chapter 45: A ghost’s evolution! – Chapter 45

The atmosphere around the room had turned dark, filled with nothing but Hiroki’s rage. Just as a mouse cornered in a room, they knew that getting off here unscratched would be impossible.  From the lord's perspective, he saw the image of a monster who brought fear upon his enemies. 

His cold looking eyes were filled with thirst for blood as he was staring at the fat lord. Cold sweat was dripping from the lord's body as he couldn't manage to stand on his feet any longer. "EEEEEEEEKK!!! D-dark blade, k-k-kill that thing!!" The lord's voice cracked as he was feeling Hiroki's aura, that's why he ordered Dark blade to kill him. But Dark blade was long gone from this room, leaving the lord on his own. 

After calming Aya down using the comfort of his body, Hiroki started walking towards the lord. His eyes shone in the color of the blood, giving termous fear to the lord. Breathing for the fat lord was becoming harder, that's why he started pushing himself away just like a dog.

"N-no!! S-stay the hell away from me!" Tears and snorts were gushing from his eyes and nose from his situation. 

"S-stay away from me!!!!" That's also the moment when the lord realised that he was no longer a predator, but the prey. 

"Aya said the same thing to you, but you didn't seem to care about that… did you?" Hiroki's powerful hollow voice made the lord feel intense fear on his whole body. Tears were coming out of his eyes while snot was sliding out of his disgusting nose. 

"Eeek! N-no! I c-can't die! I'm the g-great l-lor--" But before he could finish, Hiroki moved his hand in front of his face, releasing one of his skills.

<Curse> 

The lord's face was becoming red until it started swelling to the point of bursting. But before he died, veins were appearing all over his body, making it hard for him to breathe. With nothing else but pain, those were the last moments of the lord's life…

Hiroki's POV!

“Aya… are you okay?” After that fat pedophile was dead, I went back to Aya and checked if she was okay. 

Thankfully, I woke up right before the situation would get to the worst possible scenario. At first I was a bit confused about what was happening, but the moment I saw Aya crawling away in fear while a disgusting fat man was coming towards her… something inside me snapped…

Even though I was really calm about that situation, my spiritual body was burning with anger. It felt as if my body wasn't my own anymore. I didn't care about hiding myself anymore... all I cared about was to protect Aya at all costs.

“Y-yes… I’m s-sorry… just because I’m not strong enough, everyone died...” Aya tightened her hug around me as she continued telling me what had happened after I fell asleep. I couldn’t believe how low some of the people in this world were. This lord abused his wealth just to satisfy himself with young girls. And even after I unconsciously killed him, I felt nothing about that. 

“It's not your fault… You are much stronger than you think. You survived, and wanted to protect the other girls. I’m sure those girls would be happy that at least you survived.” After Aya finally calmed down, she fell asleep in my arms. Her body felt really soft and I didn’t want her to fall into the ground, that's why I decided to possess her in order to get out of this place.

Wait, didn’t Aya mention that a girl named Theresa tried saving all of the girls. 

There was a girl with red hair laying on the ground, but I wasn’t sure whether it was her. But even if it wasn’t, it would be sad to leave her like that. That's why I decided to go towards her, and gently shook her body. 

“Um… Theresa? I don’t think this is an appropriate place to sleep.” I could see her breasts jiggling as I was shaking her body, but that wasn’t the time to be distracted by that. 

“Uhm… hmm.. What…?” She was confused as she was trying to wake herself up. I don’t know what kind of person she might be, but she looks really cute when she’s sleepy. 

“Aya… why are you…" She was confused as to why Aya was waking her up.

"Huh?! R-Right! Are you okay!? Where is that bastard?!” And thankfully, it didn't take long before she was aware of what had happened.

"It's okay, they are gone." She looked around, trying to understand what had happened after she passed out. And she immediately found the headless body of that lord laying on the floor. Blood was still coming out of his body, filling the area around him with the color red.

"What happened…?" Her eyes moved back to Aya with a confused look on her face. She was looking at Aya if she still didn't believe this kind of situation. She already knows that Aya couldn't have killed that lord, so that kind of excuse wouldn't work. Showing myself to Theresa is also another bad option since I am not a human. Besides, there is a chance that she'll target me. That leaves me with another option...

"I don't know what happened as well… but when I woke up, he was already dead and you were lying unconscious next to me…" She looked at Aya straight into her eyes before deciding to get up from the floor. 

"Well, that doesn't matter anymore, I'm just glad that you're okay." She hugged Aya really tight after saying that to her. Even though Aya was the one being hugged, I still could feel the sensation of her breasts squishing against Aya's face. If she tightened her hug a bit more, I'm sure those breasts could suffocate someone…

After we managed to find our stuff back, both me and Theresa sneaked out of this mansion without anyone noticing. None of the maids or guards were allowed to go inside the lord's room without being ordered to. But sooner or later, they noticed a terrible smell coming from the room, alarming the whole place. The lord was dead, and the reason behind that was yet to be found. The lord was one of the hated humans of this city, so no one really bothered to figure out what caused his death.

And now, even after killing the first human being, I still felt nothing but satisfaction inside me…

Now that I think about it, I still haven't checked my status after my evolution ended. Actually, I don't feel that different except for my spiritual body. My legs are finally visible but still, they are transparent and I can't touch the ground.

First thing that I looked at when I tried checking my status, was my race. While I was hoping I would get at least a physical form, my race changed from a ‘ghost’ to a ‘high ghost’…

Since my form didn't change much, I suppose that this new race improved my INT to 1,000 while the other stats were the same.

And at least, all of my skills have leveled up to 100. 

I still haven't checked the difference in their levels so I wasn't sure about them. Another thing that the system of my status notified me, was something related to a limit being lifted. I assume that with this, I will never be able to reach the limit of how many levels I can acquire. And lastly, I have two new skills which are new to my status.

"..." Seriously... 

I feel like the appraisal skill is slowly being turned into child mode. Instead of becoming an informative dictionary for me, it's treating me more like a kid…

"...Hiroki…" Coming from the bed, I heard Aya's voice calling out to me. I turned around and went towards her to see if she wanted something.

"I'm here." She looked at me with her sleepy eyes and moved her hand towards me. I immediately realised what she wanted, so I gently held her hand.

"Please… don't leave me…" Her eyes, which reflected the light of the morning sun, looked right back at me. She didn't look at me with fear but with a loving face who didn't want to be alone.

"I won't, so go back to sleep... I'm sure you're still tired." I gently kissed her forehead so she would get a little more rest. 

When I was young, my mother used to do this every night. At that time I wasn't sure why iit helped me sleep much better. But now I feel like I understand that...

But instead of going back to sleep, Aya covered her face in embarrassment and looked at me with her lovely eyes.

"I… d-don't think I can sleep anymore…" She responded to me as she let go of my hand as well. 

I guess a kiss coming from a guy would be much different compared to a mother’s kiss.

Later that day, Aya decided to go to the guild in order to receive her adventurer's card. To be honest, I felt a little jealous of Aya getting one of those… But right now, I'm happy for as long as Aya is happy about this. 

While the receptionist was explaining the basic rules of the guild, Aya caught a glance of Ito and his party. They didn't say anything, they just avoided Aya as if they never knew her. 

Well, I don't care what they are up, for as long as they stay away from Aya and never bother her. 

"--also, don't forget that you're starting from 'J' rank and you're only allowed to do simple quests, like gathering herbs, cleaning or farming so keep that in mind. 

Are you paying attention? I won't repeat myself." I'm also glad that the receptionist helped Aya in passing the adventurers exam. I'm not sure what happened to the one who failed her but I will punish him if I ever get to meet him again.

"By the way, what happened to that supervisor that failed me?" I asked, using Aya's voice. 

"After what happened with you that day, the guild has decided to revoke his rank and adventurer's card until a final decision is made. Also, he vanished from his house and no one does not seem to know his location.

Anyway, you don't need to worry! You are a new adventurer in this city and I'll make sure that you won't have any more trouble!" She winked at Aya with a smile on her face. 

I'm glad at least someone in this city is not as filthy as that lord who tried raping Aya.

After that, we went near a massive board where all of the quests were placed. Surprisingly, they were placed depending on their ranks, so it wasn’t that hard finding quests based on what rank Aya was. ...Not that I could understand what was written on the board.

[ Aya, can you read this? ] I felt a little embarrassed, asking Aya if she could read those for me. It felt as if I was in the first grade once again.

[ Y-yeah, I can! It's a quest about getting rid of garbage. This one is about something cleaning brothels rooms? ] Aya was a little confused as she was reading that quest.

[ O-okay, there's no need to read that quest. Is there any other quest that you'd like to do as your first job?" I tried changing the subject from that +18 kind of quest. 

[ I don't want to make any reckless quest that's why I want to start with a simple one. ] Aya grabbed two different quests about gathering some medicine herbs and potion herbs. Since we barely had any money with us, I asked Aya if we could do another quest. It was the quest about getting rid of the garbage since its reward was higher than the rest of the 'j' rank quests.

"Hmm? Three quests at the same time? Are you sure about this Aya?" The receptionist worriedly asked Aya. 

I can see why she's acting like that since this is Aya's first day working as an adventurer. But since I am with Aya, we can finish quests much faster.

"Y-yes, am I not allowed to?" 

"It's not that you're not allowed, but if you fail one of these quests, you will have to pay a fine to the guild…" I can see why she's worried about it, but I believe that Aya can do this. 

"I w-won't fail any of them!" Aya insisted on doing three quests at the same time. But there weren't any rules about doing multiple quests at the same time, so the receptionist accepted Aya's first tasks.

Before going to the forest to gather the requested herbs, I asked Aya if we could do the trash disposal first. And of course, she didn't mind on which quest we could start. 

After checking the information that the receptionist gave to Aya, we finally managed to arrive at the destination where we could begin the first job.

[ This should be the door of our employee. ] I said to Aya after confirming the details given by that woman. 

‘Terrible smell, old looking house, at the east of the city.’

*knock* *knock*

Aya knocked on the door as we were trying to ignore that disgusting smell that was around. 

"Coming…" We heard a faint voice coming from the inside of the house. I could also hear footsteps rushing towards the door, until a boy who seemed to be around my age opened the door.

"If you have trash, then leave it on the corner of that… wall…" He must have thought we were throwing trash to this place. But he had a blank look on his face as he was looking at Aya.

"U-umm, I'm here to dispose of the trash. " Aya tried being as polite as possible while explaining to this guy. But that guy still continued looking at Aya directly into her eyes.

"...Ah! Right, please come this way!" He finally snapped out of it after looking at Aya for a good minute. We followed this guy behind the house, leading us to a massive hole filled with all kinds of trash which almost made Aya puke from the terrible smell. 

At the center of the trash, was a massive rock. That must have been the reason why the reward of the quest was so high for a 'j' rank.

"You can use this mask to cover the smell. Meanwhile I'll be back at my house. if you need anything or give up on the quest, let me know." He left after saying that to Aya. 

The only thing that was mentioned on the quest was to dispose of the trash, but it seems like there weren't any instructors of where we had to put the trash.

[ Hiroki, this will take us more than one day to clean up… ] Aya worriedly said to me as she was looking at the massive pile of trash.

[ Don't worry, I have an idea. ] I got out of Aya's body after saying telepathically that to her. 

"W-what are you going to do?" 

I may not be able to touch anything, but I still have my skills to help me with this trash. Aya was looking at me, that's why I couldn't fail in front of her like that. I moved my hands towards that plie and used one of my skills.

< Fire Element >

By visualising fire spreading, I constantly shot a chain of fire that started burning up the trash. The burning smell was terrible, but thanks to that, it was turning everything into ashes. All that was left was that massive rock which wasn't affected by my skill at all. 

"That was amazing Hiroki!" 

It makes me happy hearing that Aya was impressed by me. Even though I didn't have a heart, I could feel a weird thing inside me every time Aya smiled. But even so, I still have to do something about that rock. I had an idea about it, but I wasn't sure if I could actually pull it off.

< Levitation > 

Just from trying to make this massive rock float, I could feel my strength being drained away at a high speed. I need to move this rock before I run out of stamina!

"Waaaaah!" Aya's eyes widened as she was looking at the floating rock in front of her. Since I couldn't destroy that rock, I tried moving it some meters away from this area. 

The moment I let go of the massive rock, a loud noise was heard throughout the place. 

Fuck… that was really heavy! But I have to admit, the levitation skill is so amazing. I can't believe that I actually managed to lift this rock in the air.

"What was that? Are you okay...?" I rushed towards Aya and possessed her the moment I heard that guy's voice. He was worried as he was coming towards Aya, but the moment he saw the empty land where trash used to be, he was left with his mouth open for a few seconds.

"It's… empty…" He couldn't believe that this place was finally clean. I'm sure he must be feeling a lot more relieved, knowing his land was cleaned.

"D-did you… do this?" He looked at Aya with a still but amazed look on his face.

"N-no it was Hiro... I mean, yes! This was all me" Aya almost forgot that she mustn't reveal me to others, that is why I took control of her body and tried changing what Aya was about to say. But the boy continued staring at Aya until tears started rolling down his face. 

"Thank you so much… Thanks to you, I can return back to working on my land." 

Well, I'm also glad that I managed to finish this work without any problem. After staring at his own field, that guy signed Aya's quest with a happy but sad look at the same time.

"Is something wrong?" Seems like also Aya noticed that something was wrong with this guy. But the moment Aya asked that question, more tears started falling down his eyes.

"I'm sorry… it's just that, you look a lot like my sister. " Something must have happened to his sister, for him to act like that…

"Did something happen to your sister?" Aya asked as she continued staring at him. There was a moment of silence before he started talking again.

"It happened some months ago… I used to live with my sister... and since our parents were dead, I had to take care of house expenses. The only thing we had in order to earn a bit of cash was the small land behind our house. It wasn't much, but that land had the best quality in growing vegetables in the whole city. 

Our daily lives were peaceful until… a bunch of people claiming to be tax collectors came to us and requested to give them our only land." I could see that he was in pain as he was explaining his story to Aya.

"Of course, we refused to give them our land since that was the only thing we had left from our parents. But they didn't take my answer that well… They simply smiled and left without saying anything.

The next day I tried selling some of my vegetables to merchants, earned a bit of money and went back home..." He clenched his fist in frustration as he was trying to hold himself back.

"But when I came back... I couldn't find my sister and the land behind our house had a massive rock and garbage around it. At those moments, I only wanted to search for my sister but no matter where I looked… I never found her…

Every day, people would come and throw their trash on my land, thinking I was going to dispose of them…" He took another deep breath, trying to relax his stress.

"I'm sorry…" Aya apologized since she didn't know how to respond to that guy.

"It's okay, there's no need to apologise… I just wished I could have spent a little more time with my sister. 

...Anyway, I'm sorry for wasting your time with my story, I'm sure you have stuff to do." He gave a forced smile as he said that.

"Ah, yes… I hope you'll find your sister someday…" Aya said to that guy as she was preparing to leave.

"Thank you. Also, please be careful… the world out there is not as kind as some people…" Both me and Aya already knew that, but still, she was kind to that guy.

"I will!" She gave him a warm smile to that guy before walking out of his house. When I turned around, I saw a tear dropping from one of his eyes as he was looking at Aya leaving.

After we finished the first quest, we went outside of the city in order to find the herbs mentioned on the quest. When I asked Aya why she picked those quests, her response was:

 "I know what they look like. I used to gather them when I was younger."

We didn't spend too much time on disposing of the trash, so it was still day right now. 

This time we decided to go into a different location from the last time, so we wouldn't find that dungeon. Going a little deep into the forest was a little dangerous, but I tried keeping an eye out in case we encountered a monster. And right now, things were going much smoother while Aya was gathering a lot of herbs for the quest.

From a certain distance there were several men wearing gray clothes. They were observing Aya from a distance as she was gathering herbs with a smile on her face.

"Hey, can you see what I see?" The skinniest one of the group asked the guy next to him. 

"Yeah, it seems like our boss will be pleased with our next catch…"
