The Ancient Battlefield of Gods and Demons, main control room.
“Just what is going on here! Why did Xia Fei disappear from our screen the moment he went underground? This is frustrating!” Hua Hei hissed as he slapped the master control deck.
The screen displayed the girls and the two black and white birds, yet Xia Fei was nowhere to be found. It was almost as if this system only cared about the situation on the surface of the battlefield, and the moment Xia Fei disappeared underground, he lost connection with the master control deck.
Hua Hei was somewhat worried. Xia Fei was facing off against the Divine Beast Blackscaled Axeblade alone; there was also no telling how the battle was going. He was usually not one with a quick temper, but he could not help but yell when this happened.
Lifting his head and folding his arms in front of him, Hua Hei suddenly discovered that his brother had also disappeared. He had no idea when he had left the control room.
“Hua Bai!”
Hua Hei called his brother’s name as he left the room with furrowed brows. Entering the dim and long corridor, though the brothers would sulk when they met, the relationship they shared was ultimately decent, and it was just that neither was willing to admit it.
“Over here!” Hua Bai’s voice could be heard coming from the other end of the corridor Hua Hei hurried over, only to find Hua Bai sitting on the ground, examining the sealed door.
This door was the only way in and out of the master control room. Hua Hei inspected the door over and over again but saw nothing out of the ordinary. That was when Hua Bai silently pulled out an accelerator mass spectrometer from his spatial ring and began measuring the readings off the mechanical valves.
“What are you doing?” Hua Hei inquisitively asked.
Hua Bai waved his hand dismissively, a gesture for his brother to keep quiet, so all Hua Hei could do was wait as he sat on his curiosity.
Several minutes later, Hua Bai stood up and showed his brother the data collected by the spectrometer.
“This is the result of the Carbon-13 test. The readings indicate that we’re not the first ones to have broken into this place, barging our way into the Ancient Battlefield,” Hua Hei stated somberly.
Hua Hei was stunned as he asked, “Are you certain? Everything was covered in dust when we entered this place.”
Hua Ba shook his head. “That only means the first intruders had outstanding abilities; they pulled a fast one on us but couldn’t fool the spectrometer. A sealed door like this that is largely mechanical, the slightest trace of friction will be made just by opening it; the spectrometer will definitely pick it up.”
“So how long ago has it been since someone breached this door?” Hua Hei asked.
“About a year ago before we entered. As the battle unfolded, I realized that the Ancient Battlefield of today is no longer the same as when we were young. Haven’t you felt it, too? It seemed a little too easy when we made it here. Logically speaking, this is a holy land that those old undyings personally crafted, yet we barely broke a sweat to get in. Since we have the ability to do this, others will surely be able to do so, too. As such, I thought of using the spectrometer on the entrance; you’ve seen the results with your own eyes.”
Hua Hei nodded as he returned to the main control room with Hua Bai.
“That’s right. The Ancient Battlefield of Gods and Demons has already been abandoned for a long time, and this isn’t just the best hiding place for us but also for others. Even the usually mild-mannered Divine Beast Blackscaled Axeblade has turned irascible, as what we are seeing right now. The Ancient Battlefield just isn’t what it used to be,” Hua Hei muttered to himself.
…
Though the Black and White Gods had discovered that they were not the only interlopers on the Ancient Battlefield, there was of course no way for Xia Fei to learn this piece of information, for he was now advancing rapidly with Furball, searching for Szesny’s tracks.
Furball had truly become Xia Fei’s hunting hound, using his small nose to sniff the way around, determining the direction. Szesny’s plan had no doubt succeeded, having tricked the Blackscaled Axeblade, but never would he have guessed that while he could fool the Divine Beast, he could not fool a Holy Beast!
Furball was a proud Holy Beast. Of course, he was unhappy about taking on the role of a hunting hound because it was very disgraceful. He was a Holy Beast and ought to be standing proudly over the universe, treating everything with disdain. Unfortunately, here he was, down on the ground, strenuously searching for any trace left by the enemy.
Furball could not go against his master’s orders. Honestly, this was because it was Xia Fei; if it had been anyone else, Furball would have laid down his life in total defiance! The world was grand, and the dignity of the Holy Beast was even grander!
*Whoosh*
Furball moved very quickly, and at his lead, Xia Fei entered a subterranean passageway which went further down.
“Strange… Szesny didn’t return to the surface after obtaining what he wanted; instead, he went the other way. Just why is that?” Oro pondered curiously.
Xia Fei chuckled. “The most dangerous place will of course be the safest place; that monster has been led to search underground by him, only to find nothing at all. Right now, the Blackscaled Axeblade’s eyes should be trained on the planet’s surface, since it’s already searched underground.”
Oro was a little startled and continued speaking. “So Szesny didn’t surface but went to where the monster had just left! It’s yet another ruse!”
Xia Fei nodded, silent.
“What a sneaky foe. Szesny isn’t just a powerful combatant; he’s also good at schemes. He might even rival you!” Oro knitted his eyebrows and said.
The temperature underground dropped the deeper they went, and a thick layer of frost soon appeared around the hole.
A frozen underwater river appeared in front of Xia Fei. With a light tap of his toes, he did a somersault and leaped right over. His eyes caught a few faint traces left behind on that frozen river; it was a sign that someone had recently passed through.
Xia Fei was invigorated. It looked like they had gone in the right direction in their pursuit, and Furball was currently bringing him right to Szesny!
…
Hazy fog hung in that maze-like subterranean passageway; without even realizing it, Xia Fei found that the white fog had already enveloped him all around.

“Mist? The Law of Mist!” Xia Fei was surprised. He looked calm on the surface, but in fact, his body was ready to clash with the enemy at any time! Even Furball began to tense up, his two small beady eyes looking around, letting out a low growl.
Right at that moment, Xia Fei promptly felt a chill on his back. An extremely fast edge homed in on him at incredible speed!
It was fast!
Very fast!
There was practically no time for Xia Fei to react; even the patriarch of the Skywings, Xia Buyun, would have trouble achieving a speed faster than this attack!
‘Crafty Approach!’ he mentally yelled this as his body began to contort in unimaginable ways. This was a purely instinctive reaction on his part, a reflex even quicker than his thoughts!
*Chonk*
Xia Fei grunted. He had managed to get most of his body out of the way, but the enemy’s attack had still landed a blow on his left arm!
The war armor Monohorn Fiend had very powerful defense, and given how Xia Fei had managed to twist his body in a very unnatural way, the attack merely glanced past his armor and barely did any real damage to his body. All he felt was a burning sensation on his arm.
“What speed!” Xia Fei exclaimed through knitted brows.
A Flash Blitz from the mist was truly the best weapon the Darkpearl Clan had against speed warriors. Xia Fei had already done his best to dodge that attack, yet he had still failed to come out unharmed. From what he could surmise, Szesny’s instantaneous speed might very well be near a million when he struck!
That was a million meters per second! It was more than enough to slay plenty of so-called elites out there instantly!
*Crunch*
Xia Fei landed on the ground with one hand planted and his body leaning to one side. Every muscle on his body was taut, ready to receive the enemy’s next attack whenever.
This was when a sinister voice could be heard from the thick mist. “The warriors from the Skywing Clan sure are extraordinary. To think that you’ve managed to evade my attack. What a miscalculation.”
This voice continued to echo, making it impossible to determine where it originated. The white mist all around thickened, making it impossible for anyone within to make out anything five meters ahead of them. Xia Fei’s heart rate increased as well.
The corner of Xia Fei’s mouth arced into a smirk as he laughed. “No need to be so modest; you’re not bad yourself.”
Szesny let out a boisterous laugh from inside the mist. Though he sounded arrogant, it had been intentionally suppressed. After all, this was the domain of the monster Blackscaled Axeblade. He would be in trouble if that monster turned its attention here again.
“Though I have no idea how you found me, there’s no way I’d let you return with your life now that you’re here. Remember: As powerful as speed warriors are, they’re not invincible. It happens to be your unlucky day today, having bumped into me. The profound sky is confined to the earth! The Darkpearl Clan exists to counter the Skywing Clan!” Szesny said this with great confidence, seemingly having already determined Xia Fei to be his prey, able to take the latter’s life just by reaching out his hand.
Xia Fei spat to the ground as he spoke brusquely. “I don’t think that you’ll like the meal I prepared for you. Of course, something you dislike will instead be something I’m very fond of.”
Within the mist, Szesny was shocked as he had no idea what Xia Fei meant.
*Rumble*
Peacock Blue’s five gigantic leaves suddenly broke out from beneath, aimlessly attacking indiscriminately! The entire cavern they were in began to shake as rocks fell!
Even Furball went wild, flying around at high speeds even as he dive-bombed around, releasing thundering explosions around!
Though such a large-scale attack was powerful, it was incapable of damaging Szesny’s actual body. It was apparent that his Law of Mist was something Xia Fei could not overcome through reckless bombardment.
Gradually, a very unsettling roar began to close in on them. This was when Szesny realized it; Xia Fei’s goal was not to attack him but to lure the Divine Beast Blackscaled Axeblade over to them, instead!
“Crap!” Szesny yelped as he unleashed a series of Flash Blitz on Xia Fei while hiding in the mist! He was planning to end this as soon as possible!
Xia Fei’s figure seemed ghostly. He was on the left one moment and on the right the next. His physical agility was abnormal, moving completely against common sense.
This was Crafty Approach, a seemingly aimless series of movements that was actually the best way to dodge attacks. No matter how fast the Law of Flash Blitz was, it would still first need a target. This was like shooting. The moment when Szesny attacked would be when he realized that it was actually very hard for him to aim at Xia Fei. This was because his figure was everywhere and nowhere all at once. It was impossible for Szesny to make sense of which one was really him and what were his afterimages!
What made it even more diabolical was the fact that Xia Fei’s figure could actually appear in two, maybe even three, different places at any one time! Szesny did not know just who he should be attacking!
*Rumble*
Amid Szesny’s indecision, the Divine Beast Blackscaled Axeblade, along with its limitless rage, got closer. This was when the gigantic beast bellowed!
Fishing in troubled waters had always been Xia Fei’s strong suit. No matter what demon, beast or ghost was on the Ancient Battlefield, Xia Fei had decided that he would lure everyone of them here!
As for the many Xia Feis that caused Szesny’s indecision and confusion, they were just the effects of Delusion’s cloning technique. He was facing two Xia Feis!—two Xia Feis who were moving at high speeds!
*Boom*
A huge body crashed right through icy walls underground. The Divine Beast Blackscaled Axeblade had arrived!
Szesny had done his best to lure away this Divine Beast, yet Xia Fei had led it right to them on the other hand!
‘Even if I can’t kill you, I’ll find a way to troll you to death!’ Xia Fei said inwardly as curled his lips in demented bemusement.
